A slow weekend 29 and 2. That's a good thing. Spoke too soon 34 and 3 and the downtown loop stores trashed to the tune of millions. Looting to get all they could get they hands on. Well they did manage to arrest over 100 of them, and they had the CSI out getting prints, so they are taking it much more seriously then previously.

Haven't seen a gas price here in a while. Unleaded $1.78 (grocery, about 1/2 mile) $1.63 (Costco, 6 miles)
The grocery didn't have gas prices posted for about a week while getting electronic price signs installed (kinda late compared to all the other stations). That's usually a one day install so I wonder what the problem was?

It was Ma Nature that went wild this week with 13 tornadoes in the area. There are still 40 k without power. Made a c costcorun today and there was no shortages at all.

I may have to run to town on my day off to fill up the remainin' empty gas can and top off the truck. Planned power outage by the utility company on Wednesday or Thursday so we'll have the generators ready for the 8-9 hours it'll be down. It'll probably be close to 90F most of the week so it'll be nice to be able to power a fan or two. Last time I was in town, gas was about $2.89 for regular and nobody in any of the stores but WallyWorld seemed concerned that I wasn't masked.

The grocery had most things this week - if you aren't particular about brands: Hormel chili only in "hot" or without beans; chili with beans only in Wolf brand (not my favorite); Crystal Light Peach Tea but none of the "Pure" flavors (although Amazon has them at close to grocery store prices and free shipping (with $25 purchase or Prime). Not seeing many of the usual BOGO offers other than some "two for less than label price" on chips. Diet soda is available but caffeine-free varieties are hit-and-miss and definitely no BOGO offers. Just typical shortages in the PAW universe.

Adding to the "outages".
Got my wife a gift card to Macaroni Grill for Mother's Day, in expectation of eventually going there - nearest one was maybe 20 minutes away (surface streets). This "outage" is that there's only one Macaroni Grill left in the area and it's almost an hour away by interstate (nice that the Highlander did 25.9MPG at highway speeds today ;-) We ordered their "Weekend Feast for Five" and drove out to pick it up (curbside delivery to your vehicle). Did have to warm some things when we got home (the thermoelectric cool/heat box was warm after running an hour but wasn't big enough for anything more than the bread). We had the spaghetti and salad for supper and are having friends over tomorrow to help us with the chicken parmesan and to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary this week. There is enough food for six people in the package deal, unless you're talking about always starving teenagers ;-)
Don't think we'll be going back there any time soon. The closest Italian restaurant closed maybe two years ago after the manager was arrested for murder in another county (nothing to do with the restaurant but they closed it anyway :-( However, Longhorn is open for seated business and curbside pickup - plus it's only ten minutes away. The other close Italian restaurant is ten minutes beyond Longhorn and they're another local chain run by a Greek family that knows how to cook everything. Their various restaurants specialize in Italian, Mexican, fish, steaks, yiros. The steakhouse is excellent, as is the Italian; the Mexican has good food but much too loud (no sound-control); the fish market has variety but is short on sound control; haven't tried the yiro shop. And their cakes are to die for - one slice can feed four people.

Monday was busy as well 21 and 2. Realize that this is just Chicago. There are other cities that have their fair share as well.

I'm beginning to wonder if Covid-19 is wreaking havoc on FedEx - you may have seen my other posts about slow, confused non-delivery.
A FedEx Ground package scheduled for Friday - didn't make it - scheduled for Saturday - didn't make it - rescheduled for next business day of Tuesday (No, FedEx, Tuesday is NOT the next business day) - rescheduled for Monday. It's Monday and I'm still waiting.
A Smartpost package (rides space available on FedEx vehicles and USPS does 'last mile' delivery) that "departed" the FedEx Atlanta hub at 11PM on Wednesday for the less than an hour trip to our local Post Office and 110 hours later there have been no updates from either FedEx or USPS - so where did the package disappear to? Aliens using tractor beams to capture the truck for all the Earthling technology inside? The FedEx tracking site just has Scheduled delivery: Pending which I think means they have no idea when the package will again appear. I've already started the "Where is my package?" letter for FedEx.

The Fedex Smartpost package spent 5 1/2 days making the less-than-an-hour trip from the Fedex depot to USPS. It did finally get delivered - a week late.
The Fedex Ground package spent Friday and Saturday "On Fedex truck - Out for delivery" and now has a Tuesday 9/1 "Scheduled delivery" (that will be about 10 days of Fedex non-delivery). I've had the security camera that monitors the road out front in "Record on motion" mode each day starting at 8AM. They won't slip in another "Attempted delivery - No response" excuse as they did early last week. First, the package does NOT require a signature so if he was here he only had to do "toss and run"; second, both of us were home at that hour and you can't miss the doorbell or the brass knocker on the front door. If the driver tries that again, I'll have lack-of-video to prove he wasn't there - if the camera is tracking passenger vehicles, it can't miss a larger truck.

I'm beginning to wonder if areas of some cities should get the same treatment the solidly traffic-jammed roads got in a sci-fi story I once read - they flew in concrete and just paved over the packed-in vehicles so others could use those roads in a few days. No, I don't remember the title or the author - just the premise...

It is all better. The police chief says so. Even though there were over 503 shootings and 63 fatalities, just in August crime is down. Lat year it was 256 and 49. 59 police have been shot this year compared with 19 for the two previous years combined. They took 6900 guns off the streets. Yep crime is sure down

Opps they fooled me. New total back to average 51 and 12. They are just not getting it done even when they have help.
Monday update on weekend total is 53 and 10 so they can't even get their own numbers right. Have to wonder why they can't even count.
