I might be a little less sensitive to the numbers than some people as I grew up in Memphis, once known as the Murder Capital of the World (and I was on the "wrong" side of the tracks as we had industry on our side of the tracks from tire making to toy manufacturing [one block south and right on the rail line] to snuff making, that end of town's black community, the garbage dump, etc). I was surrounded by people who loved me and I never went hungry but my feet give evidence of not getting new shoes as often as needed. I didn't understand how poor we were when I was in elementary school - if you and all the neighbor kids have the same things thefew n you think you're doing OK plus I had discovered reading and the public library at an early age so I could always find free entertainment and adventure ;-)
Chicago now has the Murder Capital honor in the US; not sure which city has it for the world.

On Tuesday I had to travel forty-some miles to the nearest VA facility. Needed a mask and had to answer questions at a folding table before being allowed to enter but no temperature taking required. Also had to wash hands at portable washing station. After five minutes inside I pulled my mask down below my nose with nobody noticing/commenting. In the Lab, the techs wore their masks but said nothing about my not having my nostrils uncovered. Going back on the sixteenth to see a real live doctor. We'll find out if the masking/washing protocols have changed at all.

The state has lifted much of its controls (number of people in a room/business, etc) but I'll likely mostly be at home for another couple of weeks. I'm very much of the opinion that all the "protests" will have been dens of exposure and we'll see some spikes in cases in a couple of weeks (or less).
Meanwhile, I have yardwork: the core aerator is assembled and ready to be towed around the lawn area. That will likely be split into two days with a day spent aerating half that area and then raking the plugs off that area and another day spent doing the same for the other half.
After that comes the dethatcher with just enough weight to score bare ground before reseeding. Then I'll get to do almost daily watering until the new grass is established. I now have a water meter that reads in liters but it was less than half the price of one that reads in gallons and I can do the conversions. I have the charts for how many gallons on how much ground for how many equivalent inches of rain. Let's see - would 1/2 inch per day be adequate? Need to do some checking...
I have plenty to keep me busy. Just wish part of it was completing some stories currently in-progress on the laptop :-(

Was talklin' to a nurse today, tellin' her about my VA visit. She said the sayin' where she works is that goin' around with the mask not coverin' your nose is like goin' around with your penis hangin' out of your underwear. Oh, yeah, she works in San Franfreako, so any exposed appendages are probably admired by all. ;^)

They don't need gun control, they need hoodlum control.
You dress like a thug, you get rousted and spend the night in jail.
Ditto if you talk like one.
Chicago wouldn't be much different under Socialist ruls, would it?

Well another update weekend up to 104 shootings with 14 fatalities.
Then on Monday alone 41 shot with 6 fatalities. This is really getting out of control with no end in sight.
Realize that Chicago has some of the strictest gun laws in the nation. but a justice system with a revolving door.

More shootings but no new total. Food run went just fine. Everything was in stock. The only limit was 1 on the 1 gallon hand sanitizer. Even found some Zinc(immune system booster)on the shelf today. The only thing was the masks. Here you have to have one or they wont let you in the store.

Another fine day in Chicago 15 shootings with three fatalities on Thursday. Makes you wonder what the three day weekend will bring.
On a different note the local casinos are open so we went to find it almost empty with the card game antis tripled. Trying to get their money back in a hurry. We left with all ours and some of theirs.

There are only two good ways to leave a casino: ahead or even. Otherwise, accept the first $10 loss and make sure you eat enough free food to make up for that loss before you leave ;-)

In Georgia, the positive tests are trending higher as a percentage of tests, not just because more people are being tested. The death per cent is down because the newly infected are mostly in the 19-40 age range and less susceptible to "other conditions" than the older people. The Governor hasn't (yet?) required statewide use of masks but the city of Savannah has and they have some stiff penalties associated with non-use - maximum fine is $500 per citation. $500 could buy a lot of masks ;-) The HD we stopped at yesterday had cases of three different masks within 20 feet of the entrance and 8oz dispenser bottles of hand sanitizer for $3.99 across the aisle from the masks.
For the moment, we're using homemade masks (my better half also sews) and haven't been into my accumulated stock of N95 masks in the basement. I buy a box of 20 yearly to use when working in the yard - needed more when mowing grass when it's dry, collecting leaves or when the pollen count is high (pine in the thousands or ragweed above 20). At the $20/mask someone was asking on Amazon early in the pandemic, I have $1000 or more in masks from the past four years.

The ridiculous prices on Amazon seem to have dissipated. Guess I should check whether the price of elderberry tonic/extract has also gone back down from the stratosphere as those prices doubled and tripled ;-) However, elderberry has been a trusted herbal for "the flu" for decades if not centuries.
