The question should be Why do Sheriffs have to be reminded who they answer to?

Dave has been ordering shipments several times a week. From the actions of the group trying to steal food, the FBI's actions and what he was hearing on the alternative news, he knew time was fast running out. The big cities were total chaos and basically ruled by the entitled people. Regular people that had earned what they had were now by government mandate supposed to allow the entitled people to take whatever they wanted.

Now the elite people, this mandate did not apply to them. They had armed guards and fenced in properties. Also Dave noticed that certain big corporation stores were seldom, if ever touched by the rioting and looting. Smaller company stores and family stores were being stripped and burnt but the couple of big corporation stores were never touched, he could not figure that one out.

Dave ordered more US silver dollars and had them shipped like before. His last order, it had cost him $40 for each silver dollar, this order it had cost $80 each. He had food shipments coming in 3x a week. The prices were way up on that too, but he knew that no matter how expensive the price seemed today, tomorrow the new price would make today's high price seem like a sale price. A 1 pound bag of dried beans was now $8. Ammo prices – a 20 round box of 7.62x51 fmj was now $50. Guys from town said they remembered not too long ago buying the same thing for just $4 a box. A pair of cheap shoes at the big box stores, started at $120. Dave was spending his money as fast as he could. The banks were now charging -20% interest, forcing everyone into the CBDC.

Local people were hurting. A lot of them couldn't pay their property taxes and the local property tax collector was moving to foreclose on them. Dave and a bunch of other men paid her a visit. The woman tax collector said she was just “doing her job.” The men said that was no excuse, they were “foreclosing” on her. Some men held her, others went in her house to grab her one bag of clothes. They found all kinds of lavish things, lots of gourmet food, piles of money and many land deeds already transferred into her name, including Dave's property. The men were filled with rage. They took the tax collector to the center of town. All the people were called and when they heard the facts, they formed a gauntlet down the street, each armed with a stick.

The tax collector was crying and sobbing how she was just a woman and only doing her job she was hired to do. The people told her they were only doing their job by firing her for criminal misdeeds and giving her the punishment. They made her go down the gauntlet and people used the sticks on her back. There were several hundred people and she fell ¾ of the way. Some grabbed her arm and dragged her the rest of the way as people still hit her. At the end, her suitcase of clothes was given her and she was told to leave and never come back. Overnight, 2 other town officials left town under the cover of darkness.

Man I sense an 'ol fashion taring and feathering coming...

The area had seen some small family groups pass through on their way to somewhere else. Some had meager piles of possessions strapped to the top of their cars. All had sad faces peering out. Dave was just coming out of the grocery store when a large group of young, single men came walking into town. All had tattoos, pants hanging down over the backsides and strutting like they owned the place.

The Sheriff happened to be there and asked them what they were doing. The men said they had just walked from the big city 50 miles away and they were looking for a better way of life. The Sheriff looked them over and saw brand new clothes on them, their shoes were new and didn't look like they could stand up to long walks. The men didn't look thirsty or underfed. The Sheriff didn't believe they had walked all that distance. Plus he recognized tattoos a lot of them had.

By now there were a lot of townsmen spread out near the Sheriff, including Dave, and all had their rifles. The Sheriff told the group of men to turn around and leave. The leader of the gang smirked and said he was in charge of the town now, as he pulled a Glock from under his shirt.

The fireworks started. Dave remembered firing and seeing a man with dreadlocks go down. He felt a tug on his clothes and realized a bullet had just passed through his shirt but not hitting him. He dived for cover behind a parked car and he saw the Sheriff go down but then crawling to get behind a cement flower planter. Dave saw several gang members rushing towards the Sheriff. He didn't remember doing it but he must of set his selector switch to full auto, as his next shot was about 10 rounds of bullets stitching across the chests of the 4 gang members rushing the Sheriff.

The battle lasted about 5 minutes and the last few gang members tried making a run out of town. No mercy was shown and they were shot in the back. The Sheriff had taken a round in his chest but his ballistic vest had stopped it and only knocked the wind out of him, though he would have a big bruise from it. Several townsmen had grazing bullet wounds. Dave was helping check the gang. 30 of them dead and stretched out in a row. No identification on any of them. Each had several new, crispy $100 bills on them and assorted drugs. All had brand new Glock pistols with no serial numbers.

The sheriff said to put everything in his car for now and load the bodies in a truck bed. He wondered how the gang members got out here. A townswoman said she had seen a bus escorted by a car marked with FBI on the side, unload the men at the town's edge. The Sheriff said he thought he had heard a full auto rifle during the battle but said he must of hit his head when he fell and only imagined that part.

Back home Dave tried hiding his shirt with a bullet hole in it but Mae saw it and he got an earful over that as he told her and Granny what happened.

Instead of trying to divide up the money among the people, The Sheriff decided to buy food for the town. The new Glocks, he gave to people that knew how to use them but had no handgun. Dave made sure each person had a box of ammo for the Glocks.

Dave, Mae and Granny had planted crops in the high tunnels. Mae did mostly supervising because she was very pregnant. She was due in 2 weeks time. Ruth had said she was doing fine and expected an easy delivery.

The 1st week in May, the baby decided it was ready to see the world. Dave had taken her to Ruth's when her contractions were close. Ruth had a delivery room set up in her basement for the patients. Mae had an easy delivery and Dave was right there. He helped catch his son and cut the cord. Ruth got the baby cleaned up and laid on Mae's chest. The parents were glowing in pride of being parents.

Suddenly they hear the sound of fast approaching vehicles. Dave goes upstairs and looks out the window. He sees 2 vans now parked sideways in the driveway and they have State Police on the sides. He sees at least 16 men exiting the vans, dressed in black with SWAT across the front and back. They have helmets on with face shields, are armed with what looks to be M16s, handguns on their thighs and riot shields.

Dave was yelling downstairs what he was seeing. Ruth was on the phone to the Sheriff and had her 12G shotgun near her. She was trying to quiet Mae who was panicking from the news. Dave had got his FAL and bandoleer of 10 magazines from by the inside of the front door where he had put them after bringing Mae in.

Dave yelled out asking what they wanted. A loud speaker blared out to come out with their hands up. He said there must be some mistake. They said they had an arrest warrant for Ruth for practicing medicine without a license. He yelled out that his wife was in here and just had given birth. The police said that she would also be under arrest for receiving treatment, That all 3 had to come out now with their hands raised and then lay on the ground right NOW!

Or else in 5 seconds they would launch tear gas and concussion grenades in the windows. Dave saw 2 men aim launchers at the cabin, so he aimed his FAL and shot both in the head. The fmj bullets caused sprays of pink and gray to go all over nearby teammates. Other SWAT members were behind the vans and started shooting. Dave switched out the magazine in his rifle for another special one he had loaded with black tip 7.62x51 ammo – armor piercing.

The van motors and body did not stop the armor piercing bullets and soon 4 SWAT bodies rolled out on the ground. The SWAT jockeyed for better positions. Over the loudspeaker came a command to come out or be burned out. One man already had a white phosphorus grenade, preparing to throw it. Dave was aiming for the man when the man dropped dead and the grenade rolled from his hand, among several of his team and went off.

Screams filled the air. In the background Dave saw some men coming through the brush around the yard. It was the Sheriff and some townsmen. The SWAT team was caught between the townsmen and Dave's gunfire. The shooting was soon over, only moans of pain could be heard.

Dave ran downstairs to check on his wife and son, and Ruth. He said it was over and ran back up and outside. He saw 3 prisoners, their hands now zip tied behind their backs, sitting on the ground. The rest of the SWAT team was dead, 1 of the townsmen was dead and several wounded.

1 of the wounded SWAT prisoners said they must surrender to them now because they were all in deep trouble for resisting arrest, firing on police officers and murdering police. Dave looked at the SWAT and said that a person had the right to resist wrong doing by the police and that right including resisting up to including the use of lethal force. The SWAT man's face went pale.

Dave asked where the warrant was. They didn't have a warrant. Dave noticed the SWAT rifles and handguns had no serial numbers. Dave took one of their pistols and pointed it between the SWAT man's eyes, He said to show mercy, he had a wife and children at home. Dave said that his wife and newborn son was in the cabin that they had just shot up and were going to burn down. Dave squeezed the trigger 3 times and they no longer had any prisoners. Again Dave was asking himself why these hired public servants thought they were above the people and had a right to rule over them.

^^ The answer to this and the question about the sheriff is kind of simple. In the case of SWAT (full disclosure here, I never have been SWAT but spent 36 years in criminal justice work combine civilian, military street police and prison work) we have allowed them to come to believe that they are all powerful and do not have to answer to anyone. in the case of the sheriffs, again we are at fault. Most sheriffs, if not all, are basically politicians since we elect them. since they, many times, run for re election without challengers they too feel they can do what they want. Couple that with Fed grant money and they have become bribed officials. Fed grant money ALWAYS comes with conditions. Until we as a group start to replace people on a more regular basis instead of just foting same old, same old nothing will ever change. Just my 2 cents worth here so take it as you will.

When it was time to take Mae and his son Mike home the next day, they had an armed escort of 6 men along. Ruth had a permanent guard if 2 men watching over her as a valued medical person. At home they found Granny with her pistol on her hip, her M16 and a bandoleer of magazines. Once inside, she took over in making sure Mae was alright and she just had to see little Mike.

The Sheriff stopped by and talked with Dave. They discussed the attacks. Their little town was no longer immune to the troubles going on. The 16 man SWAT team was not on official business. No one knew how they had gotten a hold of everything. They were really police but were acting outside of orders. At least that was the story from the head office of the State Police.

The Sheriff said he didn't believe them and Dave agreed. Too much had “slipped through the cracks” for it not to be an officially planned operation. After the Sheriff left, Dave did some snooping on his computer. Being an IT whiz, it didn't take long for him to hack into the State Police computer files. Jackpot! It showed that it had been a planned operation and they had received the orders to do it from higher up. The FBI had “requested” the raid. While he was in the Police files, he downloaded all officer names, addresses and wives and children's name, along with photos of every one of them.

The TV news was now constantly doing propaganda stories about “hoarders" who had extra and were not willing to share with “the poor people” who were oppressed by the “privileged”. The cameras panned over mobs of “the oppressed people” in their $300 pair of Nikki shoes, $200 pairs of fashionably ripped Jordache jeans, $400 intricately braided hair, $1,000 worth of tattoos on their bodies. The oppressed people chanting “you owe us”.

At the same time, assorted 3 letter government agencies released a list of what they called domestic terrorists. Dave's jaw dropped open when he saw it.
Believe on Jesus Christ – check
Believe in freedom – check
Believe the government was lying – check

Believe there was only 2 genders – check

Believe in traditional marriage – check

Believe children belonged to parents – check

There was more to the list.

He was now classified as a domestic terrorist on many counts. What came to Dave's mind was the bible verse that said “good would be called evil, and evil would be called good”. How did this once great nation fall so low into a manure pit?

Dave still had $1,500,000 left when the government announced the CBDC would start in 45 days. He had heard of a family in the next county over, having been attacked by a gang from the city. The husband, wife and 2 children had been killed. The husband had been killed instantly but it was reported the wife and children had been repeatedly raped over 48 hours before they were killed. All food had been taken. The State Police had investigated and said that they ruled it as suicide.

Dave planned on only leaving $5,000 in his bank account to pay bills when the CBDC took effect. The remaining money he quickly ordered more food, ammo and supplies. The 3 trucks were scheduled to deliver tomorrow at the feed mill. He was there when the trucks backed into the unloading dock. He was armed with his FAL and 20 magazines. The Sheriff was standing next to him. Scattered around the area were another 30 townsmen, many armed with the M16s from the SWAT team.

As Dave unlocked and raised the truck trailer doors, 10 State Police cars came roaring into town with their lights flashing and sirens blaring. They slid to a stop and exited the cars with their guns out, screaming these trucks are being confiscated and Dave was under arrest for hoarding.

When Dave had heard the police coming, he had already knelt behind a cement barrier on the dock and had his FAL aimed. He yelled back for them to lay down their guns and raise their hands, they were all under arrest for abusing their position and that they were completely surrounded. Dave had a body cam on plus other cameras located all around, capturing sound and video.

The police looked around and saw guns pointed at them from all directions. The head police officer screamed with a red faced anger “how dare you disobey my commands” and started shooting. Dave, the Sheriff and townsmen returned fire. It was a slaughter that lasted less than 3 minutes. The only survivor was a young police officer that had obeyed the command to drop his guns. He was still standing there in the open with his hands in the air. He was shaking, had wet his pants and from the smell had also manured his underwear. Not a single bullet had touched him because he had surrendered.

Checking the police bodies, he found the head police officer barely alive. The man saw him and with hate filled eyes was still trying to scream “you lowly peons need to bow before us and obey us.” Dave laughed and with a righteous anger, shot him between the eyes.

They stripped the bodies of guns, ammo and anything else of value. A FBI card was found in 1 of the police cars. The battle had been filmed and Dave edited it to show the highlights. The TV news that evening was talking of domestic terrorists attacking the police. Dave was ready and hacked their news fed and played the video from the attack. The news station tried to cut him out but Dave had complete control and the film was going out live to millions of people. At the end Dave issued a statement. He said that the State Police were committing crimes, that “we the people” knew who every police was and where they lived and who their wives and children were. Dave directed his next statement to the police families, telling the wives and children to demand their police husband / dad to do right and honor their oath to fight evil. That if their police husband refused to quit evil, to divorce them and move. These jack booted thugs of police were attacking our wives and children, so unless you left the evil police, we had no recourse but to think you support their evil and we will target you too. Dave said today they would have to choose serving good or serve evil, this was war. That “we the people” were fed up with public servants trying to rule over us as kings. Dave ended the live news broadcast. It was seen by millions of viewers, recorded and rebroadcast on many social media and online video platforms. Within hours it had spread all over the country and people started stirring the embers of freedom.

The Sheriff told Dave that he sure put this little town on the world map with his video and they should be prepared for the kick back.

It didn't take long for it to come. The very next day there were busloads of “protesters” being delivered to the edge of town and trying to exit the buses. The town had been forewarned by a phone call from someone along the route that had seen the buses coming. As the leaders of “protesters” got off the bus, Dave stood up and confronted them, told them to turn around and leave, they were trespassing. The leaders shouted how the town were cop killers, had been “privileged” for too long and had a lot of things that the group was entitled to because they were oppressed.

Again Dave told them to leave, he saw several guns poke out of the bus windows and he opened fire with his FAL. Raking 7.62x51 fmj bullets back along the bus body as the townsmen joined in with M16s and assorted personal rifles and shotguns.

There was chaos inside the buses and screams of pain as the bus bodies started looking like sieves from all the bullets. Then 1 of the townsmen lobbed some concussion grenades through the windows, the same grenades the SWAT team had and were planning on using at Ruth's place. Dave called for cease fire.

Checking the buses, all they found was dead, wounded and dazed people. They gathered up any weapons they found. On the 4 buses that had came, most were dead. The town had avoided shooting the bus engines and all 4 bus drivers were alive. Dave got them settled and loaded all bodies on the buses and ordered the drivers to go back to the cities.

The evening TV news had reports of several busloads of innocent sightseers being attacked by domestic terrorists. “Activists” were calling on the government to do something and TV news reporters were calling for the same demands. So much for unbiased news reporting.

The town got a small respite and Dave was able to relax some with his wife and newborn. Little Mike was sleeping during the nights but he could really fill his diapers full of a stinky mess as he found out when changing diapers.

The townsmen, being backwoodsmen of the Appalachia, were doing patrols of the woods. On one such patrol, the 3 men found tracks of military type boots. It looked like 2 men, so the patrol followed the trail. The trail lead around the town and was nearing where Dave's place was.

The townsmen were slowly following the trail and they could see fields of Dave's place. They stopped and were searching everything with their eyes, looking for anything that was out of place. They were scanning all shapes and watching the birds and animals scurrying around. A chipmunk hopped up on a hump in the ground, then suddenly leaped away, chattering the whole time.

The patrol saw part of the end of the hump fall away and there was part of a cylinder showing – a rifle barrel. There was a slight shifting of the hump and the barrel was covered again. Now the patrol could clearly see 2 forms under a camouflage netting of some sort.

The 3 man patrol looked at each other and the leader raised a questioning eyebrow. The other 2 nodded and slunk silently to the ground and started slithering towards the 2 men in hiding. When his buddies were just inches from the hidden men, the patrol leader was behind a tree with his rifle aimed at the hidden men. He called out for them to ease their guns straight out into view and then raise their hands, that they were under his guns. They hesitated but when 2 rifle barrels poked them up their backsides, they knew they were busted.

The 2 men pushed their guns out and raised their hands, pushing the camouflage netting off them. The patrol leader ordered them to spread eagle on the ground, his 2 buddies searching them as he covered the 2 men. There was 1 bolt action heavy barrel rifle with a scope on it and a M16, several knives and 4 grenades.

Gathering up the weapons, the patrol took them on into Dave's place, calling out as they got near. He could see the patrol and stepped out on the porch with his FAL, just inside was Mae with her M16 and Granny was taking the baby down to the basement. When they were close enough, he asked what was going on and who these guys were.

The patrol leader said they had found these guys hiding out just inside the woods with rifles pointed this way. Dave saw 2 US Army by the looks of their uniforms. He asked who they were. 1 said Staff Sergeant Smith, US Army, number 123456789 and the other said Corporal Jones, US Army, 234567890.

Dave said to relax, that they were not prisoners of war, unless there has been a war declared on me. The Staff Sergeant said that Dave was a domestic terrorist and that there was a war on terrorism going on. Dave asked them how he was a terrorist and they said because he had defied officials, had killed officials, had released a video advocating violence against officials and was hoarding food and supplies.

By this time the Sheriff had arrived and he heard what they had said. The Sheriff asked them how the oath they took to defend the US Constitution lined up with them attempting to kill Dave. They glared at him and said their oath was to the president of the US and they did what they were ordered to do and they gladly were going after scum like Dave and people like him.

Dave had again been recording since the patrol had come up to the cabin. There was excellent video and audio of everything. So, they were against the American people – yes and the American people had best learn they were peons, only fit to obey the officials that ruled over them.

Dave looked at the Sheriff who nodded, then looked at the 3 man patrol who moved away from the 2 man sniper team. He looked at the 2 men and told them they were a disgrace to the uniform they wore. Dave told them they were found guilty of treason and would be shot. He squeezed off 2 quick shots and they dropped dead.

That evening Dave hacked into the TV news again and put up the latest video. The last video had caused the people to begin stirring the embers of freedom. This video of the US Army soldiers words against the people threw gallons of gas on the embers. It was now a roaring fire.

Overnight Dave was now considered to be #1 terrorist in the country or #1 hero of the country, depending on your outlook of life. ½ of the people consisting of officials and the entitled hated him with a passion. The other ½ of the country saw him as a national leader.

The officials and “activists” held protest marches against Dave performing terrorist acts, and they were burning and looting places to show how peaceful they were. There were bloody clashes between the entitled and the working man. Reports were coming in about a lot of police getting divorced and their wives and children moving out. Other wives stayed with their police husbands in show of support that they stood with their man abusing his position.

Once the “entitled, oppressed” people in their expensive clothes got done looting and burning stores after taking the big flat screen TVs, they headed for the urban and suburban areas of the cities. There they encountered working people who weren't going to give up their homes and possessions so easily. The entitled ran into concentrated firepower that cut a lot of them down.

The gangs preyed on both sides. The gangs were armed with new M16s and Glock handguns, reportedly with no serial numbers. They shot people on both sides, looted for food, sold drugs to officials and took many women and children captive to become sex slaves. The gangs had found out that many officials wanted little boys and girls for their bed.

In Dave's area, the officials had shut off all electricity and phone service in an attempt to isolate Dave and the town from the outside. But the Appalachia people took that in stride and lived just like generations before them had lived.

Then Dave saw the jet trails crisscrossing the skies. The area was deluged with heavy rains for weeks. Crops again rotted in the fields. Then the rains stopped and it was a drought and 100F temperatures. By the end of October, the snows started. By January the snow was already 8 feet deep in a lot of places and -10F was a normal thing now.

Dave kept the woodstove going, the cabin was decently insulated and even though the windows were double pane, they hung thick blankets over the windows and doors. He did his best to keep paths shoveled to the chicken coop and barn but still had to wear snowshoes many a time. He made sure there was lots of food and water and plenty of deep bedding for the animals to stay warm.

His son Mike was doing fine and they keep him bundled in clothes and blankets. Mae was holding up and Granny, her old bones liked huddled near the stove to keep warm. Dave did his best to keep a road plowed to Ruth's place and into town, but by the end of February, the fuel ran out for his truck.

The town lost a few people that year who were old and sick. No one starved but people were only eating 2x a day. The wildlife – small animals were hibernating and the deer had migrated out of the area where there was less snow and more normal temperatures.

By mid March the temperature went from daytime high of 5F to 70F. The snow and ice were quickly melting and everything was now mud several inches deep. His wind up shortwave radio had left him able to listen in. His area had been the only area to be hit by the weather abnormalities. The cities were war zones, the rural areas were in better shape.

The weather alert tone went off on his wind up radio. 10 category 5 tornadoes were spotted coming up the Appalachia mountains. They had touched down and were staying down, cutting a 5 mile wide path of destruction for each one. The news reporter said that never before in history has this happened.

Dave got his family down in the basement to ride out the tornadoes. There wasn't much he could do for the livestock. The destruction couldn't of been more than a mile away when suddenly the F5 tornadoes lost strength and became just high winds. Later that day, he heard on the shortwave radio that the big antenna array located in Alaska had been destroyed. It appeared to of been a multiple rocket attack. That site had been rumored to be able to control, make and strengthen weather. It had been destroyed shortly before the tornadoes had disappeared. Dave was now firmly believing that the US government could wage weather warfare. He had seen the signs too many times.
