Asteroid strike = for starters: earthquakes, tsunamis, volcano eruptions, dam failures, nuclear power plant shutdowns, loss of pipelines, bridges/tunnels/overpasses, aerial power transmission lines/towers down. If you don't have it or can't grow it or make it, there will be no more "it". Lots of fun times ahead ;-)

Both men agreed and told me I was wanted as part of that leadership. How did this happen?
As our mommys told us, best to keep our mouths shut and thought to be stupid than to open our mouths and prove so...

Chapter nine.
Bob moved from the clinic to the family room couch and the triplets had a field day bringing him tea and home made sugar cookies. While munched on them he wrote out orders for Duke to take back. It wasn’t long before he became Uncle Bob. I asked Joanne and Bob if this would be a problem Bob said no and Joanne shared some of her family’s past “The girls were raised by my father for the most part since since his death they have not had good male role models.”
I asked about their parents Joanne told us “They were drug addicts and neglected them, dad stepped in and they are now in state prison and have signed away all their parental rights.” That might not have been the question I have ever asked. While this was going on Bob was writing out instructions for Duke and told him “These are things we need to do quietly and quickly. He asked me "can I bring my wife out and run my base out of here for a while?” I asked Joanne and Betty they gave their approval. Bob gave Duke the list and Duke left.
Once Duke left Bob told me “My wife will be driving out today towing our home built camp trailer and supplies, it is pretty much self sufficient.” While we were talking a motorcycle pulled up and large man with a beard dismounted and called out “Hello the house.” I asked Bob “Do you know him?” Bob looked out the window and said “That’s Pastor Harry from the Baptist church I think you’ll like him.” I have never seen a pastor dress like that.
I found Pastor Harry to be refreshing change from the Pastors in Washington. I asked about the dress code for his church and simply said you should wear clothes. The more we talked the more I liked him. He told me they met in peoples homes since they were not interested in owning a fancy building. This also allowed them to help more people in need.
I asked him about his thoughts on emergency preparedness and He gave me Proverbs 22:3 The prudent see danger and take refuge, but the simple keep going and pay the penalty. Okay, this guy had some sense to him. I looked at his vest and saw an NRA life member pin and a Marine Corp veteran patch guess I won’t have to ask my next questions. He didn’t ask me why I was living with two women and didn’t assume the worst.
He told us his hobby was astronomy and he was sure the asteroid was going to hit and wanted to see people as prepared as possible regardless of their beliefs. He bid us farewell and left his card in case we wanted to attend services this Sunday I guess not all clergy are brain dead.

Yep, sound advice. Naked in church is probably more disconcerting than being naked in public.

Chapter ten
We were prepared as we could be given the time and circumstances. Now it was time for chores, why is there never a shortage of those on a farm? The girls had milked the cows and fed the rabbits. Betty and Joanne were stacking hay bales. Sue was working with Bob’s wife Carla on some sewing. I didn’t know Sue was interested in such domestic things.
It is now two days before the strike and the girls pull me aside and tell me “We need to talk about the future of the species.” Where is this going? “Sue started out It’s like this all three of us have been in love with you since before this started.” Janet picked up the conversation “We will lose up to ninety percent of our population.”
Betty added “What we are saying is we have chosen you to be our husband and mate.” Sue picked up again “You took us in with no questions and have treated each of us like family.” Janet added “You are treating my nieces like they have always been family.” My eyes start to tear up a little, a response I did not expect. I had no choice but to say “I accept.”
Just as we were finishing up our little talk a motorcycle pulled in the drive and a woman waving a ball bat called out “Rufus I know you are here come out or I will come in and beat you!” Janet asks “Who is she?” I tell her “it’s my abusive sister.”
Betty shows up with an AK 47 and Sue has a nasty looking bow. I tell Janet to get the triplets to safety. My sister Alice approaches the house like she owns the place Betty puts a round by her feet. She has enough sense to stop. Sue tells her “I don’t care if you are the Queen of England you are not going to threaten our husband and live to to tell about it.”
Alice yells “Why do you have guns? Only the elite should have guns.” Sheriff Bob sneaks behind her and puts a .357 magnum to the back of her head. He tells her “It is their right to have guns and you are under arrest for attempted assault with a deadly weapon menacing, trespassing with criminal intent and anything else the prosecutor wants to hang on you. it’s been a long time since any of my family has shown up I get the feeling more was up than meets the eye.

Chapter 11
I wanted Sue to use her “Special talents” for interrogation on my sister. I need to know how she found me and why. Things are getting down to the wire and I need to know if my birth family is planning something. If they are I will not hesitate to end their threat to my new family.
Bob lets Sue “Talk to Alice out in the far barn. Betty and I stand guard with shotguns. “Now, now dearie” she tells Alice “You are going to tell me your whole life story especially why you hate dear sweet Rufus.” Alice spurts out a line of profanities that would make a Sailor blush, she always did have a filthy mouth. This was followed by more screaming. She starts talking “We are going to kill him and take over this place.’ More screaming “He was never like the rest of the family, he joined the oppressor class instead of those fighting for Social Justice.” She gave a lot of information before she expired even how she found me..
After Sue was done we went up to the house and my wives just held me. They found out all about my youth. How my parents and siblings relentlessly beat me sending me to the hospital several times. They learned that I still managed to get good grades and learned the survival skills that I was now putting to use on their behalf. They learned that my job in Washington was seen as the ultimate betrayal. Despite all of this they still loved me and wanted to remain my wives. When Bob found out about this he said so sad that your sister died in a motorcycle accident. I felt no sorrow for someone who wanted to beat me and take what I had.
I recalled the line in that movie about the cars where one fellow said not all family is blood and not all blood is family. I didn’t know the screen writer was a Prophet. It was getting on to bed time and tomorrow was another day hopefully a lot better.
The next morning I woke up and could not move an inch I opened my eyes and found out why. I had the triplets, Sue Joanne and Betty holding me down. I would not have minded if I didn’t have to pee so bad. When I tried to move Jill clutched me tighter and said “warm.” I finally get free and go to the bathroom.

Chapter twelve
I made biscuits and gravy with scrambled eggs and bacon, coffee and toast. The triplets had never had biscuits and gravy before. I almost ran out. Carla said Bob could live any food source so long as there was sausage gravy for it. I don’t know why she thought that was strange or funny.
Duke pulled into the drive knocked on the door and said I come bearing gifts. I told him come on in and get some breakfast before Bob eats it all. He came into the kitchen and ate with us. After breakfast he said I have something for the girls, sort of. This should be good.
We went out to his Car and he began pulling large trash bags out and a couple boxes. I asked what in the name of the dog did bring us. He told me “Nice like new MEC .410 shot shell loader five thousand empty hulls, a like amount of wads a custom slug mold, powder, scales and everything else you need in quantity to keep the girls in ammo for a while. We carried everything inside and started setting it up. The girls wanted to learn to reload ammo so bad they could taste it.
Duke told us “I have some news about Joe Mason and Bart Martin, they are both dead.” Bob asked “What happened?” “well, they came into work this morning and tried to take over, they made the mistake of drawing down on Miss Sarah.” Bob laughed and explained “Miss Sarah is five foot two inches and very petite.” Duke told us “She gave them both head shots before they could even sight down on her.” Let me tell you Bob had some rough neck deputies working for him.
We went out did morning chores the triplets tended to the rabbits, milked the cows and the goats, gathered eggs and fed all of them. I turned out the cows and the horses into the fenced in barn yard and filled the stock tanks. Next I moved some fire wood over to the steam engine so I could power the shop.
When I finally got up to the house I stopped and checked out our vehicles. I wanted to be sure tires and such were at pressure and the batteries were at charge. As I was doing this I heard a voice call out “Hello Pilgrim, there is only one person who called me Pilgrim and that was my old supervisor Mountain man Gregg Farley. Man was he a sight dressed in his fur trapper get up and carrying his Pennsylvania Rifle. I asked him “did you come all this way to visit me?”

Chapter thirteen
Gregg said “I came down because I need to see Doc Betty.” If Gregg needed to see Betty it must bad. I ask him “what’s wrong?” He shows me a shoulder wound that is most likely infected. I bring up to the clinic and called for Betty.
Betty looked at Gregg’s wound telling him it was a bad infection and needed to be cleaned out. As she started the procedure I could tell my old boss was hurting but he never complained a bit. Betty asked him “how did this happen?” he said “I tangled with some old barbed wire while clearing up the property.” This earned him a tetanus shot and instructions to radio for help if the infection did not clear up or someone else got hurt.
Gregg told me “I hear you got canned for giving the powers that be bad news.” I replied “Yeah, another case when being right didn’t endear me to the boss and this time it bit me.” We caught up on old times a bit and Gregg finished up with “By the way I saw Susie Bradley snooping about a while back.” Now it was my turn “ recon she did a bit and she knew you right off.” Gregg asked “do you know where she’s up to?” I told him. What Sue had been doing.
Before he left a chucked another bomb at him “I married Sue, Joanne and Betty.” Gregg told me “Boy you got a powerful hankering for trouble don’t you.” I really couldn’t argue with that. Gregg left telling me to watch my top knot.
After Gregg left I went in and told Sue that she had been spotted by Gregg. Her response was “That old so and so didn’t even say hello.” Sometimes I wonder about this particular wife of mine.
The triplets came in carrying the milk jugs and Jill had shot a raccoon that was getting ready to raid the chicken coop. I wish I could have met her grandfather. She made up a salt brine and began cutting up the kill. I wonder what the girls will turn it into.
We put the chickens in the coop after supper and the other animals in the barn. I wanted us in the habit for some unexplained reason.
End part one

Part two the event.
Chapter one.
Today is the day our world would be changed. There was no more hiding it The “object” would hit in the Pacific ocean. We had no idea just what the effects would be here in the Northern states but I guarantee they will not be good.
We were buttoned up and prepped as best we could be. Bob had his people placed around the county for the best response times. We had the short wave going and there was all kinds of speculation about the after effects from not much to extinction level event. The truth was somewhere in the middle.
The triplets were finishing were doing what children do oblivious to the impending chaos. Sue and Carla showed us what they had been sewing up. They made the girls their own custom tactical vests complete with Velcro attached pouches.
The NOAA radio sounded the emergency alert tones and gave a report. “a Asteroid has made impact in the Pacific Ocean. This has resulted in a large Tsunami that will strike the entire west coast. All residents should evacuate to higher ground.”
We feel the earth moving and I think the Great Lakes tectonic zone has let loose. I warn everyone to be ready for after shocks that may be greater than the first event. The triplets are stuck to me and have no intention of letting go. I really can’t blame them for being scared.
After a few minutes the news repeats itself. I take the girls out and we tend to the animals. Feed, Water Milk, gather eggs. After doing this We take a walk down to the creek and look around a bit. The fish seem to be not all bothered by today’s events. That is more than I can say for most people.
When we get back Bob is at his radio dispatching orders to his deputies and talking to people I don’t know. Carla is starting a pot of tea. Betty is going over her medical supplies Joanne and Sue double checking our food and ammo inventory.
An hour later we have a conference to discuss our state of affairs.

Now where in the Pacific? Northern Pacific would set off the ring of fire and volcanic winter. The farther north, the more it will cause the breaking up of the Artic ice cap, going up the Bering Strait like a water from a fire hose. Increased icebergs and maybe the sinking of the Gulf Stream and the added fresh water will do a lot to reduce the Pacific seafood, even if any fishing ships survive. Southern Pacific will cause some of the ice shelves to break free but it is winter now in the Antarctic. Western South America, eastern Australia, and southern east Africa will take the worst wave damage.
Too bad if word got out about the bunkers and the elite's plans. Might even be a few land slides covering the entrances and air vents. Might be a few accidents of those hiding on ships in the mid Atlantic.

The event chapter two.
Chapter two
We settled around the big table and started with the supply reports. Joanne said “We have enough food for about two years and the means to produce and preserve more.” I asked her what worried her she said “Crop failure, animal theft, over hunting, predators.”
Sue reported on our ammo and arms “We have over ten thousand rounds for our main weapons reloading supplies, What does concern me is our storage I would like primer and powder in a powder safe in a small shed not the main house.” Bob stepped up and said We have a small shed at our place that can be moved as is with a big enough trailer.” Betty said the International Harvester was available for that.
Betty told us “I have a good stock of meds but I would like for us to get more if possible.” Carla added “for bandages we could sew up some cloth ones and reuse if we get desperate.” Let me tell you that treadle sewing machine of hers is no joke.
Despite what just happened most of the county was calm. I attribute this to being prepared for the worst. I asked Bob “where can we get a powder safe?” He said “we need to go and talk to a man after we move the shed.”
Bob, Betty and I trucked ourselves over to a local truck terminal to pick up a trailer. As we pulled in we were met by the yard manager. The man looked like he was half past dead. Bob climbed out of the tractor and said to him “Sam I need a flat bed and a work crew for a few hours.” Sam asked “How are you paying for all of this?”
The two men haggled for a while and a deal was struck. Betty backed the IH up to the trailer and was hooking air hoses when a pick up came roaring around the corner and screeching to a stop. One in the cab and three in the back. The men in the back jumped out put stating “We are Home Front and we know you have food and guns we will be taking all of it.”
This guy had the brains of a rock. We answered him with lead. My first target was the driver he got a twelve gauge slug in the head as he exited the pick up truck. My next target went down before I could fire a shot. Betty targeted him with her M1A . Bob showed us what a HI-Point carbine in forty five auto was capable of. In the end none were left breathing.

The Event
Chapter Three.
Sam told us “You folks done saved me and mine from those Home Front idiots just tell me what you need done and my boys will do it.” I told Sam “We need a shed moved out to my place as well as some of Bob’s stuff.” Sam whistled for his boys (Boys? These four are about the size of the Hulk.) We told them what needed to be done and they started right in. By the end of the day we had the shed moved.
The next morning the triplets helped me cook up waffles and sausage using the stove top waffle irons. Janey learned how to make coffee while Jill and Janet mixed up powdered orange juice. The three Aunties as the girls called my wives came stumbling down stairs calling for coffee the way a Zombie would call for brains. I pour coffee for them so they will wake up.
After breakfast I went out with the triplets to do chores. As per our operational plan we were armed. Jill lamented the lack of “stew pot filler” I think the other two girls were happy for the lack of targets.
Once the chores were done Bob and I paid a visit to a local welder. He told us that he sent five powder safes to Pete’s Guns in town and Pete could use the trade. We pulled into Pete’s Gun’s and he’s got door size piece of diamond plate steel covering the entrance. The window have diamond plate steel with shooting ports.
The man inside hollered “Who’s out there?” Bob returned Sheriff Daley and Doctor Rufus Pennington. He opened the door. And invited us in. He asked “What can I do for you folks?” I told him “I need a powder safe.” He had us follow him to the back and showed us one that Joe the local welder had made up for him. I asked “How much?”
He told us “ I will give you one if you have enough room for me to plant a garden this next year.” I told him “we can arrange that.” I had a moment of inspiration so I asked “Pete do you have three twenty two magnum revolvers?” He told me “sure do and I have holsters for them but why three?” We have triplet girls with four ten gauge shotguns and twenty two magnum rifles at my place but I would like for them to have side arms.” We talked and for two ounces of gold I had revolvers for the girls so long as I forgot where I got them.
