What? I just clicked on link and came up with no problem. Nah, I just screwed up what I was gonna say and deleted my post. Some times I start bangin' away on my keyboard as if it was my old Underwood manual. When I get too far into "way back" mode I try to change ribbons. |

Still have 2 Brother electric typewriters in the shed, along with some ribbons and correction tape. Though no idea if they're still any good.

Cloth typewrite ribbons are like cloth printer ribbons and can be semi-resurrected with some WD40 when they dry out.
Obviously, that does NOT apply to the plastic film ribbons (IBM Selectric film ribbon coated with carbon black, for example - the kind where you could read typed documents from the ribbon butwithnospacesbetweenthewords).
I had a dot matrix printer that stayed around for years and when I could no longer get ribbons for it, I'd spray the cloth ribbon with WD40 and seal it in a plastic bag for a week or so. The WD40 dissolved the ink in the not-printed-on areas and redistributed it throughout the ribbon. The ink got a little fainter with each resurrection but it was cheaper than buying a new printer ;-)
Betcha didn't know that WD40 was a tool for writers ;-)

What? I just clicked on link and came up with no problem. Where I'd actually been goin' in that comment... You mentioned recalled commercial canned food. What about somebody who kept a few jars of home-canned, pre-tainted fruits, veggies, jams etc. At a time when some local ne'er do wells might come along and demand "tribute" from those who'd had the sense to prepare, it might behoove said prepared person to happily give away something already containin' salmonella, typhus, botulism or some such delicacy to any and all brigands. Sort of a cross between Typhoid Mary and "Ground Class and Arsenic" so to speak. I'm sure there's somebody here who can take that ball and run with it, now that the ball's in your court and you guys are at the plate. |

Or are there any folks here who remember semaphore? I guess, from what I hear from those who sail these days, hardly anybody even knows what it is. |
