She mentioned on TB on 8/11 that she had fallen while waxing floors and on 8/17 that the fall had caused a pinched nerve. See 20 of "Starting Over and Over".
Nothing further in over a month.

I'm sorely missin' her stuff, too. It would make me feel better to know she's doin' okay. Than again, there seem to've been times when she's "gone dark" for awhile, and maybe this is another of those. There're still lots of her stories I'm waitin' to see finished. I guess this must be a lesson in patience that I've been needin'.

You never ask for patience - you're likely to get a situation that teaches you patience ;-)
Kathy had mentioned that she planned to finish several stories in a post leading up to the last one.
Some others on the forum were asking if she had published any on Kindle. As far as I can tell, she hasn't. It costs nothing other than (LOTS of) time if you have a free proofreader - paying customers will complain about spelling, grammar, etc errors that forum readers generally ignore (my retired school teacher wife proofread "Accidental Family"). Amazon has a free tool to do all the formatting.
I absolutely understand about pain caused by back problems. I had surgery (L4-L5 fusion) 10 years ago when I reached the point of "If that intermittent pain down my leg gets any worse, I'll be on the ground suddenly and not by choice" - and that was after months of pain killers, physical therapy (including a "spine stretcher" machine). Getting from horizontal to vertical and back after surgery was the most painful long-term experience I've had. With my better half standing by me, I could use her hands as a stanchion and do part of the movement using arm muscles which made it MUCH easier. And there was a lot of "I don't like you today" from me to the physical terrorists - I mean therapists ;-)

I can think of several of her stories I'd be happy to see finished, but Lord knows I ain't one to talk about how a writer should work. I just sit around and soak up what all you guys toil and sweat to post on these boards. I'm not sure you realize how much enjoyment, entertainment and knowledge I've gained form the works of yourself, Kathy, Machinist, Solo, BA65, Brett... Hell, the list is just so long that I'll stop here. All the others who've contributed to my reading pleasure, don't feel badly 'cause I didn't mention you by name, I just don't wanna go on any longer and leave out some of you folks 'cause my memory ain't what it should be. Every writer here gets my hearty thanks. As for backs, there's nothin' like tryin' to walk up stairs and suddenly find that your legs won't do what you're tryin' to tell 'em and you end up on your knees. There've been days when my wife has had to put my boots on my feet and tie 'em for me so I could get to work. Kinda humbling when you thought you were so young and indestructible, and it don't always seem to get better as one gets older (or is that more, ahem, mature) but we learn to cope. Most days, anyway. As for the terrorist- uh, therapists- I've tried not to let myself fall into their clutches. Several years ago, my left arm and shoulder got so bad that while I could barely get my hand on the handlebars (no, not ape-hangers) just the weight of my leather jacket kept me from usin' my arm to signal a right turn. MRI told me I had a torn labrum, partially torn bicep and something else. The VA told me that I could have surgery and probably never recover full range of motion, or I could try PT. The head terrorist- uh, therapist- wanted me to come in M_W_F, but when I whined about it bein' a 220 mile round trip, she said she loan me some equipment and let me try it at home for a couple of weeks. Went back to follow up and she thought I was makin' enough progress I could keep at it. Took me 11 months but I'm again able to bring my arm all the way up beside my head. I was kinda inspired by watchin' how hard those guys worked some of the patients, and how some of the amputees and others were willin' to put in whatever effort it took to make themselves as whole as they could. Humbled me but good, and made me appreciate how well off I am. Boy, do we have some fine men and women who've been put through the wringer and haven't given up.

I've spent time with the physical terrorists - therapists - more than once: rear-ended 3 times, once hard enough to bend the frame on my truck (the body repair guy was surprised that my head hadn't hit the back window but that little Nissan pickup had good head restraints), the back surgery and then rotator cuff plus biceps tendon repair two or three years ago (some months of PT and I'm almost back to normal - still can't scratch the bottom of the other shoulder blade with my thumb so not 100% of original range of motion but I can put on a shirt or jacket either-arm-first and I'm not sitting in the recliner with ice on that shoulder every hour or so to make it through the day).
I did bake brownies for the PT staff several times and they just accepted the "I don't like you today" as a better comment than the sometimes heard "*&^%$! therapists! Tryin' to break my !#$%$!#*() <whatever part they're working on>!" I'm not a general purpose cook but I manage pancakes on top of the stove and brownies in the oven plus burgers, steaks and pork loin on the grill pretty well. I can also do most things with a reliable* recipe but don't expect great pie crust.
*reliable recipe - one that always turns out the same - not those that require adjustment for the humidity or the phase of the moon.

I affected the nerves in my left arm to the point of extreame Fire like pain in my left arm from neck to fingers

I'll be thinking of you.
Once you're up enough to be a victim - I mean PT patient - stick with the PT!!! I hated it early on but it did help. I even continued the "at home" exercises for a year (insurance only covered some months (5? 6?) of PT). That continuation might be why no one ever asks if I have back problems - I move normally, even getting up from *most* chairs and sofas without using my hands. And very few will move my small, hip-roof general purpose toolbox - with literally everything in it - after picking it up the first time. I don't understand why, it's only 35lbs. Not too bad for 7+ decades ;-)

Gipsy- keep us posted. Us old guys are always happy to spread stories of how terrible somethin' will be, or of how we suffered, or which hospitals have the hottest nurses. Good luck.

Any time you're having surgery, check whether you can choose a hospital based on its patient infection rate - where lower numbers are better. Not always possible but being in the place that has the fewest infections is always a point in your recovery.

Any time you're having surgery, check whether you can choose a hospital based on its patient infection rate - where lower numbers are better. Not always possible but being in the place that has the fewest infections is always a point in your recovery. Last surgery was hernia repair at Mather in Sacto, and I think it was 15 or more years ago. I think it was right about the time that a study at some VA Hospital showed that nurses with long, fake fingernails harbored infectious bacteria under their nails. They did it OP so I wasn't there long. Funny thing was that the guy who took me down there for the operation was bringin' me home and wanted to stop about halfway back for coffee. Went into McD's for coffee and an apple pie. For the last 45 years or so I've looked 10-15 years older than my actual age and the kid at the counter kept tryin' to give me a free "senior" cup of joe. As we were leavin' with a to go cup, my left leg was draggin' a bit and as I stepped off the curb into the parkin' lot, it was like the leg wasn't even there. Fell, tucked my shoulder, rolled, and ended up in my back holdin' the coffee up in the air with not a drop spilled. Some 10-12 year old kid came runnin' over to help me up, must've thought some ol' drunk had taken a header. Yeah, I can look a bit scruffy at times.

Nice when the "nuts and bolts" fixes work well. Hope you continue to improve.
You are aware that a gallon of milk or two 2 liter bottles of ginger ale (or whatever) weight 8 lbs?
I had the 5 lbs limit after shoulder surgery - the only grocery bags I could carry were bread or chips. That - and not driving - got old in the second week.

Well I am up and about almost normal except for the collar. Go in next Friday to get the stitches out of my neck. The only PT they gave me was to walk. They said tha these bones have nothing to do with being able to move my head, so that is a good thing.
I will say that the hospital and staff were really great, even the food. They had a 4 page menu.

Glad to hear you're doin' well. IIRC, the menu in the field hospital was Page 1- SOS...Page 2 re-constituted dried eggs...Page 3 mystery-meatloaf...Page 4 all of the above. But at least there were no cans of ham & mofos...

YEAH, She has indicated that there seems to be a problem with fiction press and one other site. Something about "corrupted stories" and maybe somebody trying to "moderate" her collection. I am likeing her stories moving back to TB2K

Thank’s papaof2. It does not open at the moment, maybe because I’m in Europe? I’ll try later in the day.

I checked the link before I posted it, so it was working in the US when I posted it. Nothing on the internet is guaranteed to last long enough for you to click on the link :-(

Carp, I wanted to see updates on her stories soooo bad. The latest on fictionpress was in June last year.
