Along with my story, Time Travelin' Troubles, on the way back from Hayward, got to thinking about another story I started writing around 20-25 years ago. So long ago that I was using an electric typewriter because pc's were running a couple of thousand and they were using dot matrix printers and green CRT screens.
Oh...that story along with the other are somewhere in "The Shed".
The other story is again, based on how I would react on things happening to the character. Louis Lamoure had a western detective story which was pretty good. Deals with a guy who goes out to help a friend, but finds there are a lot of other things happening. Ends up with the character going thru a "doorway" into another world. This is one that the Navajo say they came from. In my story, same thing, but character meets people he calls dwarfs, elves, etc., along with humans being there too. Had over 100 pages written including where the caravan he's with is attacked by mainly goblins and some orcs. Things would of been okay, but then here comes this dragon who's with the goblin/orc party..... My character has been trying to learn how to shoot a bow/arrow with a elf giving him lessons as the caravan heads down the road. This includes throwing up a large cork kind of ball for the character to shoot at. Well, as the ball is thrown up, the elf calls out heads up, meaning about the orcs/goblins, but the character is looking for the cork ball and fires. But misses. Instead, he hits the dragon in the balls with his arrow! Don't know if male dragons have a balls or not, but it sounded interesting/possible. As in the Affected stories, there are people who can heal, but are part of the priest/clergy class. One of them (a woman) helps heal him and later on, the character uses his small, portable cassette player to record her voice as she's healing someone else. A lot of wounded after the attack and character figures why not play the tape and move his hands like she did? He is able to heal the person, but not as well as the woman did, but still.....
On the way back from Hayward, got another idea for a story dealing with time travel that I hope has a twist. Don't know how many readers here are preppers/ back packers. I was looking at it from the perspective as prepper testing out everything he has in his bob and I mean, everything including weapons. Better to find out now what works/doesn't work now than when shtf. Character goes to sleep, but when he wakes up, finds his clothes are too big.....as in 5 times to big. Has he shrunk? No. Not only does he find he has the body of 9 year old, but he has traveled back in time. In thinking of this, was thinking of 1962 for some reason. As in JFK, etc. all being alive. Stephen King has a story about an adult traveling back and the consequences. According to him, time is unchangeable, but I'd rather go with the new reality/time line as in the Back to The Future movies where Marty left behind the sports almanac for Biff to find/change history. So now you're 9 years old, with a full size bob along with maybe an AR and pistol. What do you do? Or better yet, what happens to you if a forest ranger sees you with all this gear or a cop? And how about the various govt. alphabet agencies (CIA, FBI, MI-6, KGB, etc.) now start looking for you because of the equipment you have. Your cell phone and battery is worth how much in new technology? Maybe you have a small lap top or one of those ipad things....and remember, the space race between the U.S. and Russia has just started. If JFK is alive, can you stop his assassination? And where's the other you? The other 9 year old you without your future knowledge. Let's say the future you is living in Calif., but the 1962 you was living in Georgia at the time.
