Earth's magnetic field is weakening (~10%) in recent years (not science fiction,) so it's reflection of radiation from the solar wind is also weakening.

Another week or so and it'll've been seven months. Did Manic get to Texas? Did he convince Modgirl to accompany him? Did he get lassoed by her feminine wiles? Inquiring minds want to know. Will we have to read the tabloids to find out?

Is there a fundraisin' site to raise the ransom for millwright? I'm sure he's been kidnapped. That's the only possible reason for there not havin' been anything else posted all this time.

With all that pent up creativity, ol' Millwright must be burstin' at the seams with new chapters. We're only comin' up on a year without a fix. Or am I the only one missin' this story?

I'd been able to spend a little time with Modgirl, here n there. Our schedules allowed an occasional dinner, some range time, projects at the ranch and such. Once this Texas trip started coming together, I was working on a ranch project and had the chance to ask her pop what the ranch calendar looked like about then. Told him that I was planning to drag her south for a few days to get her ass kicked by some kingfish, snapper & dorado...if everything could work out.
He looked at me for a second and said, "I don't know about you draggin' my daughter off that far, but I sure would like a little offshore time", then let me do some mental gymnastics for a few seconds before rolling laughing at the predicament he'd put me in.
I see where she gets it.
We finished the job and wandered into his office for a cold beer. He double checked the calendar and told me that everything was fairly quiet around then, but he had been looking at some breeding stock in that area of S. Tx and would like to have someone put eyeballs on it. This may be a win-win deal.
Modgirl came in the office and I said "Hey, sensuous", as she smiled I finished saying, "sensuous standing there, would you grab us a beer?"
YEAHHHHHH that got a cup of ice down my shirt...well worth it tho.

Lordy, sir, it's good to see some more of this. I was just gonna thank you on the other sire, but since you're logged in here I'll give you instant feedback. Glad to see that you didn't go for the quick ending, as it looks to me as though you have big plans for Manic, Modgirl and the rest of the crew. Sure appreciate this continuation before our hero & heroine get to the Depends stage of life. And I can't wait to see if'n he's gonna get her back by freezin' here bikini top when they go fishin' in Texas, or if that's how the story's gonna end, with him tryin' for chilly revenge and her usin' his body parts to chum for sharks. Nah, she ain't that mean, is she?

We managed to get all the moving parts aligned to make the trip. I really wanted to arrange a surprise, but it just wouldn't come together.
I loaded the truck, trailer and dog, then headed towards the ranch to round up Modgirl.
Since this was an extended trip, I drove my new truck. A Duramax, High Country...the creature comforts are nice on a road trip.
On trips like this, it was just easier to drag a box trailer with spare gear and tools. They were secure and dry, summers on the S. Tx. coast are known for daily T-showers. Just enough rain to wet everything and send the humidity level directly to "steam". I even had a small chest freezer to store fish and any other goodies in until we made it home. The trailer had an external compartment with a small diesel generator. With a few simple controls, it was wired to start when the freezer wanted to run or the rooftop A/C kicked on....and run blender, of course. (not going to bore anybody with the nuts-n-bolts of this, unless there is an interest). I keep jugs of water frozen in it to load in ice chests, as needed. The A/C keeps the freezer happy and made the trailer a very usable sleeping area with fold down benches/cots on the wall. I managed to plumb a small camping type, LP, tankless water heater by the genset. A 30gal water tank was enough for hand & dish washing and a quick shower.
My idea of roughing it includes A/C and a hot shower...at the absolute worst. Hotels are much better.
The plan was to knock out all the work items first and relax after.
On the way south, we surveyed the stock for her dad. Everything was good there, he could start the process of mooooving it back to the ranch.
My stop at the plant started out uneventful. It was a coupla days of troubleshooting. The machines, in a roundabout way, told me where the issues were. Once I eyeballed them, it was easy enough to figure out where the money was being skimmed off. I called the plant manager and maintenance manager down to where I was working. They walked up being total dicks about the down time. After a polite explanation that I had already audited the maintenance books and this trip was just to gather physical evidence of their embezzling, they got real quiet and just watched me load my tool bag.
Modgirl had stayed at the hotel for the first two days, but this was only going to take me an hour or two, so she was in the truck doing computer work. I was at the back of the truck loading tools as these two bozos came around each side. I had given her the heads up about what might happen today. When one of them passed her door, she kicked it open and knocked the wind out of him. She jumped out and screwed a .45 in his eyeball and dared him to move his punk ass. The other one got a 1/2" drive, breaker bar across the elbow....it bent kinda funny after that. The CEO had been in his truck one row over and saw the whole thing.
There was an hour of paperwork once the cops showed up, but I billed triple time for that and triple time for her half day of waiting. The CEO had to stay and deal with the management mess at the plant, so his fishing was out this trip.
We finally loaded up and went on our merry way.

Lordy, somebody must've paid the ransom. Millwright done got back and posted some more of this great tale. Sir, you was sorely missed. Now, if'n we could get some of the longer chapters like we had at the start of the story... ah, Hell, I don't wanna sound ungrateful for what we have now. Thanks.

The trip down to the coast was uneventful. I routed it to stay out of traffic and big towns. At this point, it was a vacation not a work trip. We made it to my fishing peeps place on the coast just before dark.
Modgirl had never been exposed to mosquitoes on the salt marsh. She jumped out of the truck and was immediately besieged. I grabbed the bug dope and started rubbing it on her, with shorts and a tank top I made a full production out of it. Capt. Ron and his wife Diane were out on the balcony watching the show. They knew what i was doing...of course Ray Charles could have seen it. Ron finally asked if I was getting tired and needed him to take over. Diane slapped his butt and threatened to rub bug dope on his privates then explained that mosquitoes could be the only attention they would be getting for awhile. Considering that Modgirl had not met them yet, she was kinda taken aback for a second, then told him that a gracious host would have some frosty drinks twisted up by now...and he damn well better not get Diane to make them. She told him it must be a full time job puttin' up with his grouchy self and Diane didn't have time to bartend. Ron came down the stairs with his mean-eye on, looked her up and down and said, "I like this girl, she can stay anytime...but you need to fix the A/C first, it's been a little weak. He jumped on the tractor put a small ice chest with Tecate & limes in it, hoisted me & tools up to the A/C platform in the front bucket. (all houses on the coast are on piers, 10' above ground, the A/C units are up that high too) Once I was situated and working, he said, "I'm going to get in the pool with two beautiful ladies. Call me when it's cool in the house and I'll set you down". I had already "read" the unit and knew it needed a squirt of freon, this would take about 1 beer. By the time I was done, he was coming out with a pitcher of margaritas for the gals in the pool. We proceeded to climb in the pool and start swapping stories.
There were a few interruptions, every time a rod would bend he'd order Modgirl to go catch that fish. It was great fun to watch her run up-n-down the bulkhead with a big redfish on. Once she got a coupla frosty, tropical beverages down, it was a hoot. She was trying to land fish, slapping mosquitoes and trying not to lose her flip flops, squealing and hollering like a little kid.
Once the bugs died down, about an hour after dark, he threw some fresh redfish on the grill with zuchini and asparagus wrapped in foil on the side. There was a little run of sand trout with the tide and we all got busy for a few minutes. When dinner was done and everything was cleaned up, we went up to the balcony to relax and wind down.
Tomorrow was going to be busy. It takes a day of prep, however many days fishing and a day to clean the boat and such. So far, the weather looked good for offshore 1'-2' seas. We have fished in 4'-6' seas in tournaments...it's a straight-up ass whippin'. Not something you want to do with a new person on the boat.
When we checked into the hotel, the front desk clerk asked what kind of room, king or double. Modgirl told her double...and that's what I was sticking with. The spare room at Ron's just had a queen, we had just dumped our overnight bags that room earlier. I had planned on sleeping in the office on the twin bed. Going in to grab bags, she walked up and gave me a serious look. I was already trying figure out WTH? She looked at me and said,"Let me tell you something right now. I'm going to shower and you are going to come scrub the bug spray off my back...Understand?" Then came that evil grin again.
I guess I now know what a big snapper feels like when the hook gets set.

millwright, thanks for the new chapter and the pic.
Wish I had friends like Capt. Ron and Diane. I'd be at their place all winter, even if I had to make my own drinks.

Winter on the coast is miserable. With the humidity and wind, you just can't put enough clothes on. Those guys on Deadliest Catch and the ones who sail out of the Northeast in winter, yeah...they got big brass ones. 45° down there feels colder than 25° up north. Fishing tapers off too. Of course, that's my perspective. I get kinda pissy when it's time to dig out long pants. Thanks for the comments.
