I'm sure everyone's seen the 3 Back To The Future movies. Funny thing about it was I was trying to write such a story several (3-5?) years before the 1st movie came out. My character was a special effects guy working for a studio and told to build some "far out/science fictiony" prop for a scene in an upcoming movie the studio was going to produce. So the guy started building something, but wasn't pleased with it, so he contacts a friend of his to see what he had he could use. His friend had a lot of contacts and was able to get his hands on some equipment from a decommissioned, nuclear U.S. Navy sub. So the character starts adding this stuff to what he had built, with lots of wiring/self contained power/flashing lights/displays, etc. He's had enough and starts hitting his tequila bottle before going home. And has the bright idea of putting a date to be displayed on the screen. He uses the date he met his girlfriend, but because he's almost finished the bottle, his hands aren't too steady and puts the date 20+ years before he meets her and hits the start button. When he wakes up, he's had enough and heads home, but things have changed on the lot. Like some of the buildings aren't there and cars are different. He finds himself back in the 1950's and meeting his girlfriends mother who is now in her 20's. And you know things aren't going to help in him having long hair as down to his shoulder blades.

Please if you have the story (or the idea of the story and are ready to write it) feel free to post it here. We do not limit this board to just PAW fiction, we have a number of Science Fiction and Fantasy stories already posted. I think that's where many of us started our love of the written word.

Some where in "The Shed" is my story about the special effects guy and his time travel. If I remember right, I titled it Time Travelin' Blues. "The Shed" (12' x 16')is kind of like a black hole....stuff goes in, but rarely goes out. Mainly it's filled with 1,500+ unbuilt models and reference material, along with fishing/camping gear. I'd like to have the reference material inside the trailer, BUT my 2nd bedroom is filled (literally) with VHS/DVD movies (about 600) and Xbox, PS1,2 & 3 games. Plus some of my preps that I haven't gotten to stashing away. How tight is space in the 2nd bedroom? I have to suck in my gut and move very carefully between the metal racks/wood shelving that holds all this stuff. And more than once, my butt has knocked stuff over. And don't even think/talk about what my bedroom/livingroom looks like. Some times I feel like that lady in Fahrenheit 451 with books everywhere. Couple of years ago decided to go thru ALL my paperbacks as my taste has changed over the past 20 years. I just can't do fantasy any more.....the magic (or the belief in it) has kind of gone away. (And yes, I've been thinking of a story along that line) Westerns...gone too. Ended up taking around 20 boxes of books and 10 boxes of military magazines to the local VA hospital. The sad part about this is I find myself still buying books/DVD's via Ebay, etc. The good news is if the movie isn't a keeper like Next or Jump, my nephew gets 'em.

I have thousands of books.... from cook books and diy books to fantasy, western, mystery, weird stuff.... normal stuff... lol! (whatever normal is) and my son says that I need to get rid of some of them... and I do, I admit that. But no one wants them. Many of them are library discards so no library wants them (I've asked) and no school wants them.... (they get grants they say).... and so here they sit. I thought about selling them on my blog and even set up a page for that, but just haven't gotten around to actually doing it.
maybe a $5/box surprise box type of thing. I don't know...

Is there a VA hospital near you? That's where I took mine. Also check with any local boy/girl scout clubs in the area. The local troop (maybe several of them?) just had a big garage sale in the local elementary school parking lot and their books were 5 for $1.....and yeah, I bought 5. But in defense, 2 were auto repair manuals....even though I don't own those vehicles. But hey, some day I might.

The nearest VA hospital is in Memphis. Thanks for the suggestions! I'll try what I can.

I did a while as a volunteer Chaplin at a Federal Prison....they love to have books sent/brought to them. If you live anywhere near a prison write to the Warden and see if they'll take them and how best to get them to them.
