There was a young man who spent most of his teen years dreaming of becoming a trapper. Finally after working for a few years he had enough of a grubstake to quit his job and head north. Arriving in the great white north he spent his time wisely searching for and finally finding a trapper willing to take him into the bush and teach him the art of trapping.
The first order of business was taking the young man to the General Store to pick out an outfit of his own. The old trapper instructed the storekeeper to outfit the young man for a season in the bush. The storekeeper and the young man wandered throughout the store picking out food, traps, clothing, footwear, snare wire, boots, mittens and all the myriad things needed b ya trapper wintering in the bush. The final item on the storekeepers list was discretely in a back room. The storekeeper led the young into a room full of boards with knotholes in a variety of sizes telling the young man to pick his board and to line the knothole with his first squirrel skin as the winter knights were long.
Come spring the old trapper arrives at the trading post alone. The storekeeper inquires as to the young mans whereabouts. The old trapper responds saying "I had to shoot him in February". Shocked the storekeeper asks "why what happened".
The old trapper responds saying "I came back to the cabin early one afternoon and caught him fooling around with my board"
