We have some Encore azaleas - advertised to bloom in spring and fall - that are in their second bloom of the year. However, one of the bushes has some purple blooms and a few white blooms with purple/pink veins. I traced both colors back to the root system and there's a stem coming up that splits in two a couple of times. One stem from each split has white flowers with purple/pink veins. The other stem has purple flowers. Interesting variety ;-) Is this a mutation we could sell back to original creators for $100,000? White flower with purple/pink center (color depends on lighting) and both white and purple buds in front of it: www.jecarter.us/files/encore-azaleas-01sm.jpgBush with mixed color flowers from above: www.jecarter.us/files/encore-azaleas-03sm.jpg

At least there is no battery like some hybrids.

True. I don't go to sleep wondering if that hybrid will catch on fire overnight. On the other hand, they don't have to be hybrids to catch on fire when parked with the engine off. Ford had at least one model year of F-150 pickups that had that problem - electrical problem that caught the brake master cylinder and usually the rest of the engine on fire...
Speaking of vehicles - one of our adult kids got a new Honda CR-V hybrid this year. Seven weeks later said kid was headed north on I-81 and, as usual, was boxed around by trucks when the truck in front threw a retread and it did several thousand dollars damage to that almost new car - but it's a 2024 and parts aren't yet readily available so no guess on how long for the repair. On the positive side, all the damage appeared to be cosmetic so the car's not sitting at the dealership while they wait for parts...
