LTO (lithium titanate oxide) 20AH cells. 20,000 charge/discharge cycles = 54.75 years at one cycle a day. These cells can be discharged at temperatures down to -30C (-22F). That might be a positive for some people ;-) Case of 32 20AH cells is $320 + tax + ship. (cells are nominal 2.3 volts so 6 cells for a 12 volt battery, 12 for 24 volts, etc. - almost identical to lead-acid cells at 2.2 volts/cell) Shipping to Georgia for one case is $22 via FedEx so guess from there or go to the link and enter your address for a shipping quote. At $11/cell, a 12 volt 20AH almost-forever battery is $66 plus a BMS and some work on your part. A good price when 10AH 12 volt LiFePO4 batteries are close to $100. NOTE: These are bare cells and need an insulation wrap (big heatshrink or whatever). batteryhookup.com/products/32x-lto-2-3v-20ah-toshiba-scib-20-000-cycles?mc_cid=5374a55075&mc_eid=7c6358641e32 cells would let you build five 12 volt 20AH batteries with a few cells left over. Or two 24 volt, 20AH batteries with some cells left over. Or one 36 volt 20AH battery. Or one 48 volt 20AH battery. Cells can handle 8C discharge but the vendor doesn't think the connecting tabs are that heavy and single cell packages (6s1p, 12s1p, etc,) should have discharge should limited to 40 amps. Still. it's a lot of power in a small package and easy enough to bring multiple 8 gauge wires to a common point to be able to parallel multiple battery packs. I've found BatteryHookup's evaluations of their used or surplus cells to be 80% correct or better. YMMV

Remember the hype about the "salt water battery" a few years ago? It was going to be the be-all and end-all of rechargeable batteries. I took that one with a pound of salt: too much hype with few or no user reviews.
A soduim battery might have possibilities. They've been hyping liquid sodium battery research as "The Solution" for several years. Sorry, only industrial environments can provide containment for a battery that operates at several hundred degrees C. Put that capability in a package that runs at room temperature and you might have something useful.
I'm waiting for details on the Shock Battery - and for prices that actually are 7% of current lithium prices.
