Today’s Rant : Freedom
OK, so when John over at Frugal’s closed the fiction section I set up this board and like many of you went hunting for my favorite authors on other websites.
I found that many authors had stories on different boards and some even had their own websites or blogs. So, like many of you probably did, I signed up at a few other boards.
Anyway one website I went to, and found one of my favorite authors posting his stories on, had another poster mention Frugal’s and I chimed in with a post that, while not nasty, was also not too flattering of the squirrel’s policies, which was almost immediately answered with a ‘we do not discuss other forums’ message from a moderator – ok, that’s fine, however I had also mentioned the Squirrels policy of forcing you to post in certain other parts of the board (8 particular topics to be exact out of all of his topics) or he would ban you and the mod informed me that they also wanted us to post in other sections. Ok, I said fine and left it at that.
Later when I finished setting up this board I put the web address for it in every signature line on every board I posted on. At that same board I was given a final warning saying ‘it’s obvious I was just there for the stories’ and basically that I’d better shape up. Well, yes I am there mainly for the stories. I don’t really care for people telling me what to do especially when these same people say they are all for; freedom, and self reliance, and always complain about the government telling them what to do and claiming that they are for liberty and just want to be able to do what they want to do.
Now our board (pawfiction) is not trying to sell anything, I’m not taking any dollars out of other boards pockets, I am not competing with them for users. I just want a one place stop for writers who want to post their stories and for readers who want to read them without people hassling them about this or that, hopefully a board that will outlive me. The internet is a vast place of (mainly) free idea’s – why do some people think they have to try to control everything? Especially when there is nothing to gain or lose in the equation? I just don’t get it. If we were both selling something or competing for users I could see it, but there is none of that involved, just (apparently) someone’s ego.
My rules all boil down to 2 words “Be nice”. Not everyone who reads PAW Fiction is a hardcore prepper, or a hardcore gun person, or likes to get into political discussions, or conspiracy theories, some people just like staying in the background lurking and don’t have a lot to say or add. That’s ok here. Add to the conversation if you like, stay in the background if you prefer.
Most authors like comments so if you like a story, a comment is like applause. Constructive criticism is great too, but if all you want to do is read, then please feel free to sit back, relax, put your feet up if you want to and enjoy.
I don't require you to agree with everything or even anything I say or do, as long as your nice about it, you've got a place here.
That’s my rant for the day and I guess it boils down to this: If you want freedom and liberty, then stop infringing upon others freedom and liberty.
Anyway, feel free to add your Rants to the board if you have something that bothers you, and as always, if you would like to see anything on this board, or another area for posting certain topics set up, let me know and if there is some interest I’ll add it. I want this to be your board as well as mine.
