Filled up this mornin'. Went 153 miles on 10 gallons. Price of 6 bucks per gallon so 60 bucks. Carton of smokes added another $55 so the tab came to a measly $115. Ain't Kommiefornia wonderful?

In town the better half's SUV gets an average of 19.3MPG with her driving, even better when I'm driving (I drive MUCH further ahead than most people, possibly an effect of the every-other-year safe driving courses in my 30+ years at AT&T). The SUV approaches 26MPG on the highway. Not bad for a large (biggest series of Highlanders ever built) and old (10 years) vehicle. However, it's a vehicle old people can sit in easily from standing and exit from without help. The 2.7L four with the 6 speed automatic transmission does well - and don't tromp the gas from a standstill as it will spin the tires...

This morning 5.15 / 5.83. I better stick with my bicycle! When I saw this coming again is when I decided I needed the solar golf cart to get around. What a great decision that turned out to be.

If you don't mind living in the armpit of the county, gas is a bit cheaper.

Around here (Kansas city area) prices range from $4.69 down to $4.42. Fortunately I now only have to buy gas for my ride about 3 times a week. 2018 Escape that gets up to 32-33 mpg. It is nice not to have to pay that $115 for gas in a work van. company fleet cards are great.

If the price of gas gets much higher, local and state jurisdictions will be forced to follow the Thai example of two adults and three kids on a 150cc bike ;-)

Nearest stations are $4.47, then $4.49 for unleaded. Diesel is mostly $5.39, except the BP - always the highest prices - where it's $5.69.
And unleaded was a little over $3 in January :-(

Local ststions mostly $4.47 unleaded, $5.39 diesel. Costco (6 miles) is $4.09 unleaded - might be worth the drive if you're buying 10 gallons or more.

Unleaded regular gas dropped from $5 to 4.90.
My opinion is that they dropped the price for Independence Day holiday to make people fill good and then afterwards, the price will go up again.
Local gas station chain was hyping it up in the news about dropping their gas prices 30-40 cents a gallon but it turns out that the gas was the E15 stuff that most vehicles can't run on.

$4.59 here and it's killing me. So glad I did everything possible to get away from as many liquid fuels as possible.

If most of my driving/traveling were short (under 3 miles), I'd give serious consideration to an electric plus pedal trike. Decent models start around $1000, don't require licensing or insurance, have useful cargo space and have the possibility of being solar charged - maybe even a solar "roof". Pedal out as far as you're willing and power back if needed. Being in an unincorporated area of the county, there's not much choice of eateries, shopping or medical care; most of those things are 30+ minutes away by car and that's too far for an old guy to pedal :-(

I watch them longingly even though the main reason I ride is for the health benefit, more so than saving gas money. But I still wish I had one since it’s taking a lot more to get in shape than it used to. If I ride direct to work, it’s 7.5 miles but I go out of my way to avoid traffic, adding another mile. After work, I add another half mile for the same reason.

After work, I add another half mile for the same reason. Since I'm approaching 80 with a bad back, I won't be on a bicycle and I can't yet justify the e-trike. I'm fine at the moment but the trike would handle any balance issues I might encounter when I get old ;-) The "e" part would also be helpful if I went to the park that's about 1 1/2 miles away - getting there is easy as it's mostly downhill but that makes getting back not easy as it's mostly uphill. Going to the grocery, library or fast food takeout has just a little uphill on the way but that means 50lbs of groceries in the carrier on the back would help push me downhill on the way back - need to be sure the trike has good brakes ;-) Just another item on my "planning for the future" wish list.
