Stopped by the local Walgreens to pick up a precription for my wife. The pharmacist was going from computer to computer mumbling "It says 'Invalid code'!" and the pharmacy tech at the resister looked close to tears. Their computer system is down so they can't fill prescriptions, or give Covid or shingles vaccinations, etc. They had no idea when the system would be back up and had people at the in-store window and the drive-through waiting for prescriptions they couldn't fill and people filling out the paperwork for vaccines they couldn't administer. Lots simpler in the days of paper Rx and paying with cash.
The tech did verify our phone number and called 45 minutes later to tell us that the next closest Walgreens could fill the prescription today. Good customer service in spite of the computer ;-)

These days, unless the 'puter says it happened, it didn't happen. Maybe they can hire somebody to ink each customer as he or she gets treated/vaccinated so the info can be entered into the system later. In fact, let's all just run down and get a chip implanted to help keep track of everybody. Maybe your chip can even control your bank balance so you don't have to worry about payin'. Oops, wait a minute... are we gettin' into cyberpunk territory?
