Just got the better half's SUV back from the shop. She heard "noise in the back" when braking while backing up so it was time to check the brake pads (the 53,000 miles on this set shouldn't have anything to do with it, should they? ;-)
$$$ later for ceramic pads all around and refacing all four rotors, she's talking about how much better the brakes are ;-)
I'm still waiting for time (another 2-4 months per the therapist) and daily use to bring the reconstructed thumb up to its new "normal" - 80-90% of the strength that hand had before surgery - so I didn't do the work this time. With similar miles on the truck's brakes, I'll have in to be checked next week.
You think brakes for the next 50,000 miles are enough if we have an SHTF event?
I might be more concerned about the brakes if I had 50,000 miles of fuel (under 5,000 gallons for the two vehicles) and tires (two sets each) put back for our vehicles ;-)

Today I needed to move a 35lb sack of grass seed (there's more bare space which needs to be covered) from the porch where it was delivered down to the basement and then out to the equipment shed. The sturdy folding cart weighs about 15lb so I was managing 50lb on wheels down 16 steps with the hand that had surgery in February. My other hand was on the handrail as I went down the steps with that load two or three steps ahead of me. I think I see some progress in my recovery ;-)
