Hey Folks, Anyone have a suggestion for a free software to write on? I've been using my phone and typing in the "notes" program but it doesn't lend itself well for seeing how readers will view it. I have an old laptop I dragged out to try and do something else but it appears the MS word is out of date and wants me to pay to use it. I do so little on my computer and certainly don't intend to be a "professional" writer so, paying for it seems a bit wasteful. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

LibreOffice Writer - better version of Apache OpenOffice
SoftMaker FreeOffice - also available for Android
I've used all of the above and would probably use LibreOffice, then SoftMaker FreeOffice, then Apache OpenOffice if I didn't have a site license for Microsoft Word 2003 (yes, it's old but the 2007 update gave it the ability to work with .docx files, so it's effectively current - other than some annoying bits of the grammar check which were obviously written by someone whose first language is NOT English). The freebies above all seem to work correctly. I've written something over a million words with Word 2003 so I'm comfortable with it ;-)
Both of the above are fairly big downloads but that's the price of the latest software :-(
LibreOffice is on the laptop I'm using to post this message, along with Word 2003, so it is my first choice in free word processors.
I know nothing about the next two, but they are in the "Top 10" listings for free word processors, have similar (not identical) features to Word and are somewhat smaller.
