We won't see most of the family over Christmas; no surprise with them scattered over multiple states. However, my better half did most of her usual baking and I'll be packing boxes of "goodies" tonight for shipment tomorrow. We'd have done this sooner if she wasn't in therapy for "tennis elbow" which is the catch-all name for a stress injury where the hand/finger muscles attach to the bone - it's difficult to mix and bake when you have limited use of one hand and while she's better, I'm still moving the big mixer from the lower cabinet to the counter and back. If the boxes make it on Christmas Eve, that's fine. If not, they'll be a new treat when all the other Christmas goodies are gone.
Our "goodies" include pudding chocolate chip cookies (5 dozen), raspberry bars (didn't count), 7 layer bars (about 4lbs) and sandies (almond-flavored wedding cookies)). The 7 layer bars (graham cracker crumbs, butterscotch chips, chocolate chips but upgraded to dark chocolate in recent years, chopped pecans, coconut, sweetened condensed milk) are a long-standing tradition, with our oldest daughter (the one with a college freshman this Christmas) "helping" make them since she was three. Not quite 50 years of that tradition but we're getting close ;-)

We will be going to a MICKEY D Tuesday to have a face meeting with my sister. We will pass presents back and forth and chat while staying in our cars.

One daughter might get by long enough for "Hi" "Love you" "Bye" over Christmas. If not, we'll plan on seeing them next year - or the year after the next Presidential election...

I was in for my yearly physical on 7 Dec and the good doctor sent a message that he wanted a follow up visit - never good unless you're trying to get pregnant and I don't qualify for that ;-) They did some additional blood and urine draws for more testing on 18 Dec (Friday) and the results were available online the next day (Saturday). My red cell count has been dropping slowly for the past 3 years and this year it and some other things are below the standard minimum so the preliminary diagnosis is myelofibrosis. Not yet serious - and it might not be for years - so today's (Sunday) message from the doctor of "I want to see you again in 3 or 4 months" tells me we're in "wait and see" mode. I'll know more about the disease's progression when I see him again in the Spring and they run more tests. Plenty soon to start worrying when/if he refers me to a hematologist or oncologist so I'm happy with "wait and see". Told one kid today via Zoom (so they can see that I look OK) and I'll tell the other one tomorrow - not going to pass this type message to someone who is traveling.

The most recent blood tests have the overall value of "within normal limits" although a few things are just barely within limits (either high or low). Still better than the December tests and the doctor is happy with the overall results. Still no definitive diagnosis but I'll take being able to stay on the riding mower long enough to get the small area of manicured lawn cut as doing OK.
