Friends,
Yesterday, I had to take my Bloodhound Beauregard and have him put to sleep.
I don't know how many years that we had him—5 or 6. God knows how old he was. His last family got him from a shelter. He was found wandering down the road with no collar or chip.
He was a bit knock-kneed and bowlegged in the rear. I suspect that some callous hunter just didn't bother to look for him very hard, because his legs weren't sound.
I was also never sure that he was 100% full-blooded. He had a lot of black and his ears were a bit small. I suspect that he had some "Black and Tan Coonhound" in him. A "Black and Tan Coonhound" isn't the same thing as a "Black and Tan." They're about 70% Bloodhound anyway, so if Beauregard was 1/2 or 1/4 "Black and Tan Coonhound" it would explain the black and the slightly smaller ears.
I'll try to post a picture of him, but the site hasn't been allowing me to post pictures lately.
He has a big ulcerated place on his front leg that popped open. He'd had a big basketball sized growth on his side for a long time. Hermione had a tumor like that. It took almost $400 to have it surgically removed and it was back bigger than ever, in 3 or 4 weeks.
At the end, his rear end gave out. He weighed about 165-pounds, I can barely walk. It was very taxing to get him loaded to go to the veterinarian.
We are poor, and Bloodhound puppies are anywhere from $500 to $950. I told my sister that I seldom ask for much, but I want a Bloodhound puppy. She said MAYBE when she gets her taxes back—though once they deduct the stimulus…
Anyway….
