Hi all,
Just another something that came into my head.
I wouldn't consider it PAW fiction, but frankly this is the only site I write on so I decided to put it here.
The content of the story may be considered sacrilegious to some and for that I apologize beforehand. This is purely a work of fiction and is not meant to demean anyone or anyone's beliefs.
As always, please let me your thoughts.

The Offer
John sat in the coffeeshop and looked out at the car dealership outside the window. He had just been in there browsing for a new truck since his old beater was on its last legs. Checking out the sticker prices, he knew that he wouldn’t be able to afford a new vehicle for at least another year. Sighing, he took another gulp of his large black coffee with two sugars. The good Lord will provide, he thought to himself.
“Mind if I sit down?”, said a voice ,causing John to look up.
Standing there in front of him was a woman that worked at the dealership. She looked to be in her late twenties, around 5’4” with a lean body, a sparkling smile, and shoulder length flaming red hair.
“Sure, go ahead.”, said John.
The woman gracefully fluttered into the seat across from John.
“I saw you in the dealership.”, she said, “Were you looking for a new vehicle? My name’s Matilda, by the way.”
“Hi Matilda, John. Yeah, I was looking. Unfortunately, it’s not in my budget right now.”, replied John.
“I understand. Times are tough all over. Too bad for you. The dealership has some excellent promotions running right now.”, said Matilda, sipping her tea.
John chuckled and asked, “Did they send you over here to rustle up a sale?”
Matilda giggled and said, “I do work in sales and do make deals, but the dealership didn’t send me over.”
“Listen Matilda, you seem like a nice enough lady, but I’m not really in the mood for a sales pitch right now.”, replied John.
“How about this, John? If you just hear me out, I promise to answer all your questions and pinky swear not to lie to you. See, I’m not even crossing my fingers.”, said Matilda, smiling and holding up her hands.
John sighed and said, “Fine. Go ahead. I’ll listen but just until my coffee runs out, but the answers still going to be no.”
Matilda smiled and her eyes sparked again.
“Like I said before, making deals is what I do. Have you ever wondered how some people get really lucky or things just suddenly work out for them? Like Hollywood actors who were in a bunch of flops then start to get roles that bring them lots of acclaim and awards. Or people whose careers are dead but then they begin to skyrocket to the top.”, she asked.
“I’m no movies star and my job at the plant isn’t skyrocketing anywhere.”, said John, sarcastically.
Matilda giggled again and said, “Not right now. But I and others like me make things happen for those lucky individuals.”
“You make them happen?”
“Yes, you see the one I work for has many powerful connections and makes those things happen.”
“So what, you’re the devil and all those movie stars and politicians, and lottery winners, they all sold their souls?”
“No, I’m not the devil, but the one I work for did make some of those things happen and some of our clients were really quite happy after they made the deal.”
“So, you’re not the devil, but you work for the devil.”
“Devil is such a harsh word, full of negative connotations.”
“Who and what are you, then?”
“That, among other things, will take a lot of explaining and I see that you are almost out of coffee. Can I get you a refill?”
John let out a snort and said, “I’m not selling my soul for a cup of coffee, no matter how good it is.”
Matilda glided out of her seat, smiled and winked, and said, “This one's a freebie.”
John watched Matilda as she walked to the counter and placed the order. Could this be true? Could this woman actually work for the devil? No, it was impossible, wasn’t it?
“Here you go. Large black with two sugars. Just the way you like it.”, said Matilda, placing the cup in front of John.
“Now, you asked me a couple of questions and I promised to not lie to you, so here goes. The first thing you wanted to know was who I am. For you, I’m going by the name of Matilda Johnson. My address is 18625 4th avenue, suite 1102. I work as an independent salesperson for the dealership across the street, so I get to make my own hours. I don’t need the job, but it gives me the opportunity to interact with potential clients such as yourself. As to what I am, that will require a bit of a back story. A long, long time ago, the entity called many things including God, Jehovah, Allah, the Creator, made the earth. Everybody knows that. But before he created the earth, he created a place called heaven and entities you call angels. The earth was created as an experiment to see what would happen if an organism was given free will . When he created humans, he gave them the gift of free will and choice. Again, everybody knows that. But what most people don’t know is that while he gave humans free will, he also gave the angels free will. The first humans were placed on earth, told about the tree of knowledge of good and evil, and given the choice of eating of that fruit or not. The humans were so innocent at that time, children really and what do children do when told about something? They become curious and try things for themselves. Again, this was all part of the experiment. The decision made by the humans pleased the Creator as it opened up many different pathways for the future with more and more free will to be taken and more decisions to be made by the humans, some which caused the humans much suffering. At that time, all the angels were watching the experiment alongside the Creator. Some were saddened by the pain that the humans were gong through and voiced their displeasure to the Creator. He didn’t want any animosity towards himself from the ones he had created and who lived with him in heaven so he cast out the angels who voiced their concerns to earth and the other place you call hell. Again, this was another part of the experiment of free will. He wanted to see how two distinct organisms with free will would interact. At the same time, in order to eliminate the possibility of further displeasure towards him in heaven, he locked down the free will in the remaining angels there. You asked me what I am. I am one of those angels who was cast out of heaven for caring for the original humans.”
John was in the process of taking a sip of his coffee when Matilda made that statement. He looked into her eyes and saw that she didn’t appear to be deceiving him.
“So you’re an angel?”, he asked.
“Yes, I’m an angel.”, came the reply.
“Where are your wings and halo?”, asked John.
“I have wings but no halo. The halo is what the Creator uses to dampen the free will of the angels in heaven. I have chosen to take this form so that we could have this conversation. If I showed you my true form, you would be so distracted by everything that, in all fairness, you wouldn’t be able t take in all the information I an giving you or make an educated decision.”
“Well, that’s a bit of a stretch but let’s assume that what you are saying is true. What can you offer me?”
“John, we care about humans and know that life is hard. We only want to help you by making this life as comfortable as possible. We’ve actually done this for many throughout the ages. Some you may know and lots you don’t. We can eliminate your financial burdens, give you fame, and fortune, good health, help bring new ideas and product to market, whatever you want. We still need to take the laws of physics into account so no invisibility, flying, or time travel. And like the genie in Aladdin said, we can’t make some fall truly in love with you.”
“Why? Why would you want to help me?”
“We see the suffering that is in this world and it saddens us. We don’t think it’s fair to you that life has to be so tough. We only want to help and make your lives more bearable. We’ve already done this for plenty of other clients, why not you?”
“You say you’ve helped others. Like who?”
“We have helped people in every walk of life including people who win the lottery, politicians, people in business, in the arts, in the sciences, everywhere.”
“Give me some specifics, please.”
“Sure, let’s see. There are so many. Alexander the Great, Atilla the Hun, Charlemagne, several popes, Henry Ford, Gandhi..”
“Gandhi? You made a deal with Gandhi? What did he get out of it? I thought he died penniless.”
“Yes, we did make a deal with Gandhi. At the time, he was just a lawyer in South Africa, but he yearned to have India free from the shackles of the British Empire. We worked with him and made that happen. He became the father of the country. As I was saying, Henry Ford, Gandhi, George Washington, Jonas Salk, Mary Currie, Shakespeare, J.K. Rowling, Ryan Reynolds. The list goes on and on.”
“J.K. Rowling and Ryan Reynolds are still alive. You’re saying that you helped make them rich and famous?”
“Yes, we did. J.K. Rowling was a poor single mother dependent on the state when she made her deal. After that, she was inspired to write the Harry Potter novels and get them published. And as for Ryan Reynolds, I met him after that fiasco of the Green Lantern movie. We worked it out so that he became the star and one of the producers of Deadpool and helped him re-launch Aviator Gin. He’s a very charming person. You’d like him.”
“And you gave him the same information you’re giving me?”
“Absolutely. It’s imperative that there is no ambiguity where the deal is concerned.”
“Okay, well since this is a deal, that usually means that I get something and you get something. Let me guess, you get my soul, right?”
“In the simplest form, as per the terms of the agreement, you would get whatever you want, and at the end of your life, we would take your soul for comforting.”
“What if I renege on the agreement?”
“You can’t. The agreement is iron-clad.”
“Yeah but what if I call out to Jesus to save me? I understand that His door is always open for sinners who repent and call out to Him.”
“Yes, normally that is true. You see the Creator has a book. The book has the name of every soul in it who can be saved. However, once you sign the agreement, your name is stricken from the Creator’s book.”
“So if I sign the agreement, I won’t go to heaven after I die?”
“Truth be told, you may not get to heaven anyways. You would still need to go before the Judgement seat to see if you qualify to enter heaven.”
“So the souls who don’t get to heaven go to hell and anyone who makes a deal with you goes to hell.”
“Yes, that is correct, but what you call hell isn’t what you are imagining it is.”
“So if there’s no wailing and gnashing of teeth, what’s it like?”
“The place you call hell isn’t full of demons out to torment and torture souls. Not at all. When souls aren’t allowed into heaven, they come to where we have a place for them. That is a place where we try to comfort them as best we can. There is some wailing and crying and that’s only because those souls are very sad that they won’t ever be able to see their Creator. Again, we just try to give them some relief and comfort to help them get by.”
“Do any souls ever leave?”
“Some do, but since they can’t get into heaven, they wander aimlessly on earth as ethereal spirits, like ghosts. We try to persuade them to come back so that we can take care of them. Some come back, others don’t.”
“Just out of curiosity, what if a human wanted to be in a relationship with one of you angels. Is that possible?”
“You mean a physical relationship? It has happened before in the distant past where angels and humans were in relationships. They cared for each other and precious children were born of those unions. Unfortunately, the Creator didn’t allow those children to be born with souls and that pained their parents deeply. After that, it was decided that, in order to avoid any further suffering and pain to both the angels and humans, relationships between the two would not be initiated.”
John looked down at his coffee cup and saw that it was empty.
“Well, my coffee’s finished and I’ve heard what you’ve had to say. I do agree, it was very informative. This is probably a limited time offer that I need to agree to right now. Thank you very much, but I think I’ll pass on your deal.”, he said as he rose to stand.
Matilda smiled a sad smile and said, “A lot of people think that the deal needs to be signed right away, but you don’t have to. Just mull it over. When you’re ready, just think of me and we’ll meet again. It was a pleasure speaking with you, John.”
John walked out of the coffeeshop and towards the beat-up old truck that he was more than thankful for.
