I get annoyed when those who should get things right don't even come close. I used the Smithsonian Channel's "Contact Us" to send the following:
"The Curious Life and Death of A Titanic Child" Sunday, November 1, 2020
Dr. Lindsey Fitzharris, PhD from Oxford University.
Regardless of the host's stated qualifications, she says (or the writers have her say) some incorrect things.
First, the only thing in the ocean that "flounders" is a fish, the flounder. If a ship or body sinks, it "founders".
Second, at least twice she mentions the "descendants" of this child. They may be distant family, but a child who died at age two has NO descendants.
Third, she says "tracing female descendants of the other five boys". These boys all died LONG before they could produce "descendants" so the word she wants is "ancestors".
If you want an audience of millions, perhaps you should be known for getting things right and using the correct word?
Even without a PhD, I know the difference between "descendant" and "ancestor".

The host also says she's a "best selling author". Wonder who her proofreader is?
