www.foxnews.com/sports/california-hs-football-coachs-family-involved-in-deadly-crash-in-south-carolinaFamilies in two states are grieving after a horrific head-on auto crash in South Carolina early Thursday killed a 3-year-old California girl in one vehicle and a 49-year-old South Carolina grandmother in the other, according to reports. Nolan’s wife and other two children were injured. Nolan wrote on Facebook that he was on the phone with his wife when the crash occurred, The Los Angeles Times reported. The South Carolina Highway Patrol confirmed to the Times that a fatal crash around 5 a.m. -- involving a Ford on the wrong side of the road and a Cadillac also traveling in the eastbound lane of U.S. 521 -- left the driver of the Cadillac and a passenger in the Ford dead. He added that the driver and the other passengers in the Ford were taken to a hospital. ============ A driver from California is on the road in SC at 5AM which is 2AM in her "body time" and she's on the phone so NOT fully functional and obviously not paying attention to her driving when she's on the wrong side of the road. Two dead. Two with permamnently debilitating if not potentailly fatal injuries. One with at least serious injuries. Wonder if the hospital did alcohol and drug screens on her blood?

It takes time to adjust to the different time zones. The gal from California did not take that into consideration, I took a solo drive from the west coast to Michigan a few years back and it was interesting to see how folks treated me with California plates. My car died in New Mexico and I rented a car in New Mexico to finish my journey. Folks definitely were more receptive to me in the mid west with the New Mexico plates on the car.

Thankfully I had the extended AAA coverage and was able to get towed exactly 200 miles from BFE New Mexico to Albuquerque to get a rental for my journey to Detroit. The roads in Ohio and Detroit were horrendous. Ended up having my Nissan Cube transported back to California and traded it in for a new rig. Living in the mountains mean you need a dependable rig. The Cube was not dependable.

Nissan has built some good vehicles in the past - my 1989 pickup, sold in 2007 when it was 18 years old (and at 128K one-owner miles). My better half finally refused to ride in it (well, the paint did look bad) and she told me "You need a new truck." Some things are best answered "Yes, dear." ;-)
