Got the latest ad from Sportsman's Warehouse this week and noticed they have a special on the Rock Island M1911 GI Standard .45 ACP pistol - $50 off their regular price of $449.99.
Being the People's Republic of California, I can only get it with the 9-round magazine.
Does anyone have any opinions or experience with the Rock Island .45?
Hickok 45 on YouTube has tested a couple of the tactical models and seems to like them except for the ambi-safety (which I don't think is a problem on the GI Standard).
Anyway, your thoughts are welcome and desired.

The Rock Island Armory 1911 is made in the Phillipines by Armscor. I have a gun shop and have a lot of happy customers that have bought them, both in .45 ACP and 9mm. It is a lot of gun for the money. I have not had a problem with any I have sold. I do like the tactical models. They have all the features you need. I think you mean an 8-round mag, with one in the chamber. I have not seen 9-round mags. That is a good price for a standard G.I. model. I just sold a nice 1911A1 with FDE cerracoat finish, novak style sights, etc. for $489.00.

A buddy of mine had a Commander sized RIA in .45acp. Dead nuts accurate, he was very happy with it. So, as long as their tolerances and quality are up to JMB's intent, you'd be good to go...

They should be good pistols. their warranty work is good also. I have a 38 special of theirs and it developed timing troubles . I got in touch with their Pahrump location and they sent me everything needed, including fedex labels to ship it. I got it back within 3 weeks. The attached note said they fixed, cleaned, and test fired it. Unfortunately I haven't had a chance to get to the range to do my own test firing.

I have an Armscor Tactical model with the Novak style sights and ambi-safety. It is a great 45acp pistol that I have owned for years and one of the best shooting firearms that I own, which is saying a lot.
I am a small arms and artillery repair NCO in the Army and have worked on thousands of firearms, and I will never sell this one and would buy another if I get the chance.

I carried a Para 45 as a duty weapon for a time and had to qualify and prove that I could work well with it as a lefty. I also had to install an ambi safety for it.
