I know there is at least one author here who has done so, but I found the following link when I was investigating. The short version is that <$2.99 will net you 35% royalty, while 2.99-9.99 gets you 70%. the rough rule is .10 per page. if this is true, this would be a huge help to me, since I tend to only make it 20-30k words in at a time. first 'book' .99, second one 2.99 is how it seems to go. publishingwithkindle.com/how-to-price-kindle-ebooks-kdp-royalties-and-pricing-explained/

The 35% versus 70% royalty works out to how many books do you want to sell versus how much do you want to be paid for your time. You will sell more books at $0.99 but probably not enough more to make up the 5.7 times difference in royalty of a $0.99 book at $0.35 and a $2.99 book at $2. You will sell more at $0.99 because some people will think "It's less than a dollar" and not be concerned if they drop the book a chapter or two in. On the other hand, you have readers like my wife who generally won't buy a book that's less than 200 pages even if it's only $0.99. The 70% royalty may have a "delivery fee" associated with it but that may depend on book size, as the books I've published on Amazon have been over 700 pages. $2.99 seems to be the "magic number" in the trade-off of number of number of sales versus amount of royalties. You will sell more books there than at any higher figure and it's the minimum price to qualify for 70% royalty. The rules are different for paperback publishing as the price is based on the amount of paper (a penny and a quarter per page), plus Amazon's handling fee and whatever profit you want on the book. An 800 page book will price out over $19 with a $1 royalty for you. That's the Reader's Digest version. There is more to it. Amazon offers some cover art for free but your book may be more attractive with a cover that matches the story. fiverr.com has a number of artists that can do a graphic for $20 or less if you know what you want. There are also those who specialize in "cover art" but that title generally doubles or triples the price versus a simple graphic design. The cover art for "An Accidental Family" cost me $20. www.amazon.com/dp/B01LVU5ILA The artist did the background and people. I added the text.
