Folks I am sad to say he has passed away. I just got the news last night. I thought I would let the other members here know. He's been fighting cancer and his fight is now over.
Good by good friend we'll miss you.
REST IN PIECE

Yeah, I read it elsewhere and hurried here to see if someone had passed the word.
I liked Patience.

Same for everyone else here. The man had talent and he had class.

His daughter is talking about posting some other stuff he's written over the years. If she does and I get her permission I'll copy it here.

I am Patience's older daughter, signed up with my own account. I sure appreciate the prayers and kind words. We're going to miss him for the rest of our lives. I have set up a public facebook page for Dad. His life was so big. By the time I even realized how much he had to share online I had very little time to enjoy it. I am looking forward to catching up on his stories and forums in better days to come and find much comfort in this. I want all of Dad's friends to have the opportunity to share and comfort each other. We will try to record the speakers at his memorial and share them online and will also share comments from his memorial page on facebook at his memorial in his hometown. I do have to log in to the facebook page as Dad to accept friends requests and plan to continue this for about a month so folks have time to get the sad news of his passing and participate if they want to. We will memorialize his page at some point and hope it will be a comfort to the many people who love him, especially any of them that find out long after the fact that we have lost him on this earth. Trying to fix link. This is the link to his page when I am logged in to his account. See if that works? www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100009140379399

rj,
I tried the link, but it took me to my own page. If I remembered his full name I would search on that, but my memory isn't that good today.
Update at 18:15 The new link works. Thank you.

Thank you for letting me know. I am having trouble getting the link to work sometimes. Maybe I need to long in as him for it to work? Dad's name is Jerry Conrad, he graduated from Purdue. Hope that helps? I'll try again...
Think I got it fixed. Worked for me when I signed out completely. Thank you again papaof2
We are sorry for any confusion with usernames. I had several forums online that I enjoyed for many years and used "Patience" for my username.
When Dad started online he just shared my accounts - and when he discovered how much fun it was - he took them over!!!
I was great with that. Happy to see him participating Sometimes we shared accounts, and just said which of us it was when posting. Eventually I did start new accounts on forums he participated a lot in. Dad did start using Machinist in some places - but he kept the Patience in others.
Usually it's easy to tell by looking which of us posted what - but not always since we shared so many common interests.
Most confusing of all, we used the same password so I have found myself logged into DAD'S account due to habit. I still use Patience as a username and it gets me into forums all over the internet after all these years online...

Thank you so much rj156. Your father was a very classy guy, at least in my book. He will be remembered by many for his commonsense contributions and his artistic talents. I pray that God is with you and your family as you walk through your grief.

Thank you Kathy. Dad treasured his friends and counted himself wealthy in the many friends he made. I sure feel blessed by you all too.
Big thanks to Biggkid for posting our news. It has been difficult for us to find all of Dad's favorite forums and even harder for us to post news of his passing. We really appreciate it.

I am sharing Dad's artwork with his many friends. Since he was on so MANY forums and I'm running short on time with the memorial coming up, here's a link to one of Dad's forums where I posted many of his works and a shop tour with photos, it continues on the following page in that thread, pages 10 and 11: www.preparedsociety.com/forum/f26/machinist-needs-our-prayers-26122/index10.htmlHere is a link to the album the artwork is posted in: DO NOT CLICK ON ANY "UPDATES" FROM PHOTOBUCKET! s1242.photobucket.com/user/rj5156/library/dads%20art?sort=3&page=1 Watercolor. Pencil. Pump in the center of the circle drive at Delaney place, house in background. Pencil again. The back porch we built onto the house at Delaney. Done in pencil and watercolor pencil or something like that. Much of this was done in the "missing years" - ENTIRELY from memory. Many of the drawings are studies he used while teaching an art class. They did scrape color from magazines and mix it with egg yolk, glue, whatever they could get to make paint and also worked the scrapings into paper for a light pastel effect. I'm not sure I know what the media is in all of these... There are over fifty works in the photobucket album, most of them are shared in the link at the beginning of this post. I took some quick photos to get these. I do plan to have his work digitized. Dad scribbled on the inside of cracker boxes, scraps of paper, painted on masonite, etc. I followed him around pulling this stuff out of the trash can for years! He didn't think enough of it to keep it... I do hope to get much of it framed and try to do a showing of his work. Not to sell it, just a showing. Might donate relevant stuff to area museums and such in my will if Beep is good with that. I will probably upload the digitized stuff too - but the files will be BIG!!! I'll post a link for anyone here who might like to have a durable print of his work made as a keepsake.

We are so lucky we had Dad. I am particularly thankful as I gather the reins of the fabrication and repair business we built, literally from the ground up, and then worked together for so many years. No one else has ever given me that opportunity or the security that Dad provided for me professionally.
He taught me by example.
There is no such thing as "can't". It is only a question of "how" and/or "is it worth it"?
If it's worth doing, it is never worth doing over. Do it right the first time.
Everyone is important. We ALL bring gifts that are needed. Dad's treasures were in a little plastic box. His contact information for the many, many people he called friends and his list of forums where he made - even more friends.
I appreciate that we are wealthy in everything that matters and much of this is due to my Dad's efforts.

If ya'all get a second to check it out, the Admin switched Patience's avatar with a memorial picture.
I found it fitting.
