I hope your orthopedic surgeon is as good as the one that did my wife's hip replacement. She had an outstanding recovery.

CHAPTER 34
The Major returned today; he did not bring any horses with him. Just pallets of supplies. And empty barrels and buckets. If we fill all those containers, we will need another barn to put them in. But it is nice to know things will be safe from bugs and mice.
After the Major rested up some, I went to talk to him, he said the horses would be here on the next trip. I ask why he was doing all this for us? He explained it was for everybody, him included. He was getting out of the military. The people that he had left here were already out, the army was not the same army he had joined as a young man. All he had been doing, was gathering up supplies and delivering them to people that were too lazy to go out and get them themselves. And when he does deliver things, it is not good enough for the deadbeats, they want more, and better.
He told me to stock up our houses with the things we had stored in our barn, then take the rest to the warehouse for storage. He thought it would be better to have central stores in one location. And if we needed something we did not have, to get it while we were there. Once everything was organized and stored, an inventory would be printer up and distributed. We could go get it just like a large grocery store, without cash registers.
He and his people have been shot at, and he is not supposed to fight back, just leave, and avoid that area. That should not be the way the military worked.
I ask where everybody went? He said the illegals that started shooting at vehicles, had continued crossing the border, and spreading out across the country, they had brought diseases with them that we had eliminated in this country years ago. Or had never heard of. The medical field was decimated, those that did not get sick were panicking. He just shook his head, and wiped away tears, and that ended the conversation.
• I went to the warehouse and got buckets with lids and a few barrels to store things in. Jan and I talked things over, and decided to, not get enough for a couple of weeks, but to stock up for a year. Don and Randy are doing the same thing. George said he has plenty, and if he needs something he will get from us. We kept a 5-gallon bucket of table salt and 1 of caning salt ,2 of sugar and 3 of flour, and a whole case of yeast. I did not count the seasonings and herbs Jan took care of that. And she has TP stashed all over the house.
I have heard the GIs talking and a lot of healthy people killed other healthy people, out of fear of catching a deadly disease. There aren’t very many people left. It is so senseless to me.
The Major and his people are gone again, he said this might be their last trip. We are still waiting for the horses, but we are getting good at waiting. George Has the corn and wheat planted, and the gardens are all planted. The pasture is looking good, and it won't be long before time to start on the hay.

CHAPTER 35
Sarge was here today, the inventory on the warehouse is done, and the print outs look impressive. He passed out a copy to each group. When we need something, we take our list to one of the people working in the warehouse, and they walk us through. At first, I thought we were not trusted. Then I was informed if we just went in and took what we needed, there was no way to keep track of what was left in the inventory. We took what we needed, and the warehouse person would enter it in a laptop, that way there was an accurate inventory, without going through and counting everything daily.
We have not heard from the Major yet. The first cutting of hay is in the lofts, the gardens are doing good, and male calves and hogs have been neutered and out on pasture This looks like it is going to be a good year. The women are getting ready for a very busy canning season, and the men and boys are cutting firewood. We try to keep 2 years ahead on firewood, while we still have power tools to do it with.
It is time to do the second cutting of hay. We have not seen or heard from the Major, and we are starting to worry that something has happened to him. His people say not to worry, he will get here, when he gets here. But we still worry. We know we would not be in the position we are in without the things the Major has done for us. There is no way we could have accumulated the things he has gathered for us.
The third cutting of hay is drying in the fields. The gardens are producing like there is no tomorrow, I still look every morning to see it the Major has returned, he has not. His people have not heard anything either. I am convinced he will not return. But I do not express my thoughts to others.
George has warned us to be ready for a bumper corn crop. He says he has never seen a better crop. We had the biggest wheat harvest, that we have ever seen, nobody knows why, but we are not complaining. We are storing as much of everything we grow, before the fuel runs out or goes bad.
Looking at the inventories, the herds and flocks and the grain storage, it looks like we would never run out of anything, but with 20 plus families using these supplies it is hard to say. Some of the teens are paring up so there will be another generation to carry on. We know we will have to take in more people, or our groups will just die out. We need a bigger gene pool.
THE END
Thanks for reading. I do not like the way this story ended. But I will not leave a story unfinished. A crappy ending is better than no ending.
