The MS made sure that a team was sent but he had enough experience to know that a lot of times it was a distraction / diversion. He had everyone else on high alert. Jason and Barb had their rifles ready. He had his bolt action ready with its cast bullets. Also his FAL was ready. Barb had her AK47 and bandoleer of magazines.
The reaction team and locals engaged with the 10 man immigrant enemy and bullets were flying. They had the enemy already pinned down and it was just a matter of time before they were finished off. The enemy soldiers didn't seem to be too experienced in tactics. Within a few minutes there were 3 immigrants out of battle. The locals were mad because of the killing of 1 of their boys and attempted attack on a girl. Scoped deer rifles picked up the smallest exposed parts of the enemy and a bullet would be on its way, oftentimes pulverizing an ankle or hand. It effectively put the enemy out of combat. Within 20 minutes all the enemy was killed or wounded and the mop up was started. The wounded were separated and the questioning began. The immigrants all looked to be late teenagers and they were going to show how tough they were. The locals started the questions and were met with silence. An old “grandpa” stepped up and pointed his rifle at an immigrant and asked a question, the immigrant remained silent so grandpa pulled the trigger, sending brains and blood splattering over the other immigrants. 10 seconds of shocked silence followed by the rest of the prisoners suddenly over talking each other, giving answers.
About that time the MS got radio calls from several of his watch outlook posts. They were reporting several large troop carrier trucks coming in from both sides of the area. There were 5 troop carriers plus 2 Bradleys coming at them from each entrance to their area. They were 5 miles out. Then the watches reported helicopters inbound.

The people were ready. As the convoys got closer, at the pre picked out spots, the Spec Op soldiers blew explosives that knocked large oak trees down over the roads, then as the convoys stopped and enemy troops jumped out of the trucks, claymores were set off, shredding the bodies of many enemy. But there were plenty left, taking up positions to fight. Bullets were whizzing past each other, seeking flesh of the opponent. The soldiers in the Bradley were trying to bring the 25mm guns onto a target, but everyone kept moving. A Spec Op soldier had a shoulder fired rocket, firing it. The rocket hit at a glancing angle, doing little damage. The Bradley's 25mm gun was seeking out the threat. The Spec Op soldier fired again just a second before the gun could be aimed at him. The rocket traveled true, taking out the gun and stopping the Bradley. The 3 guys in the Bradley jumped out, 1 of them limping. They didn't make it more than 10 feet before bullets found their flesh and ended their lives.
As the battles raged on the ground, the 3 helicopters moved in, unleashing rockets and bullets at the hot spots of the locals and Spec Op troops. It took its toll, explosions sending hot metal shards and chunks of wood whirling through the air. Screams of pain filling the air and the smell of blood and burnt gun powder everywhere. Jason was using his rifle, peering through the scope, waiting on an opportunity to send its cast bullet into a target. He watched as the helicopter turned, seeking new targets. He saw the open window on the helicopter revealing a clear shot at the pilot. Settling the cross hair on the pilot, he squeezed the trigger, sending the 165gr cast lead bullet across the 200 yards of distance, smacking the pilot through the chest which caused the helicopter to crash down into a group of 8 immigrant soldiers. Most were crushed in the impact, several stumbling away in a daze, only to be cut down with gunfire. The immigrant soldiers were being shown no mercy. The locals figured if they were coming here to kill their families, they weren't going to show them mercy.
The immigrant soldiers were dying, but not without inflicting damage to the locals. With the battle raging on 2 fronts plus the helicopters, a lot of firepower was being brought on the locals and Spec Ops. On 1 battle front, the immigrants were making headway but the Spec Ops brought out a weapon they had been holding in reserve as a surprise. The immigrants were kind of bunched up, trying to punch through the line when the distinct sound of mortars going off could be heard, then the mortars were landing among them. Bodies were shredded and the immigrant soldiers broke and tried running away. Bullets cut them down like the rabid dogs they were. Some tried surrendering but that didn't help, they were shot anyway. As the mop up finished there, the rest moved to come in behind the other group attacking.
Catching the last immigrant force in a pincer move, the battle was fierce. Jason was using his rifle to pick off any exposed enemy. Those cast bullets might have been moving a little slower but they hit like a sledgehammer. 2 helicopters were left and 1 of them must of spotted him. It swung to face his position, firing a rocket. Jason saw it and tried diving into a hole left by the roots of a fallen tree. The rocket hit the place he used to be, knocking a tree down towards him, its limbs falling on him in the hole, pinning his leg to the ground. He felt the pain in his leg instantly. Looking around, he could see his FAL laying in a twisted piece from the rocket explosion where he had left it leaning against a tree while he was using his bolt action rifle. His bolt action was laying on the ground with its scope busted off and with a broken stock sticking out from under a tree branch of the fallen tree. Causing more pain in his leg, he stretched, reaching for it. Finally his fingers got a hold on it and pulled it to him. He had almost passed out from the pain in his leg.
Working the bolt, he ejected the round in the chamber and looked through the bore to make sure it was not plugged, it was clear. He chambered a round and set the safety. No sights, no stock but he could use for up close shots. None of his people were close enough to hear his yells over the din of the battle, he would have to wait. The tree limbs pinning his leg was big and heavy. He checked his leg as best he could. He could feel the pain but couldn't feel any blood from an open wound. He was unsure if it was broken. He tried looking at the watch on his wrist but that $8 watch from Walmart was broke. All he could do was lay there listening to the battle around him.
Laying there, he realized he felt running footsteps through the ground. He was fairly covered by the leaves on the fallen tree, so all he could do was wait. It wasn't a friendly, it was a foe. An immigrant soldier came into view and crouched about 7 feet away on the opposite side of the tree trunk. Quietly taking the safety off, Jason stretched the broke rifle towards the enemy and pulled the trigger. 165grs of lead tore its way their the man's back. Just like a deer that had been shot, the man did not drop instantly. The man stood upright, turned around with a dazed look and then collapsed across the tree trunk, adding more weight to Jason's pinned leg and causing fresh pain. The enemy's AK47 was laying propped against the tree trunk where it had fell from his hands as he died. The AK47 was so tantalizing close but so far out of Jason's reach, no matter how far he tried to reach. He could feel shock setting in as the battle continued.
He must of passed out, at some point he became aware of being shaken and his name called. His eyes focused to see one of the Spec Op soldiers standing over him and telling him them would soon have him free. He no longer heard the sounds of battle. They dug around his leg in the dirt and used a tree branch to lever the tree trunk up enough that 2 men could slide him out from under the tree pinning him. They splinted and immobilized his leg and got him on a stretcher. Back at his home they had set up a medic area and when he was carried in, Barb came running to him, crying to see him injured. He assured her it was just his leg. The doc checked him over and seeing it was just his leg he told Jason it was not broke but the bone was splintered. 1 of the medics would put a cast on it for him but the doc had other people to attend. Watches were set up but Jason would be out of action for a while til he healed. Barb took him inside the home where she was fussing over him, making him comfortable and food to eat.

An excellent chapter, though I do not quite understand what is wrong with his leg. Did you mean that the bone was cracked but not broken clean through?

Fractured legs (so I am told) can be as painful as broken ones.

I believe the medical term for a cracked bone is "greenstick fracture".

After talking to the MS, he found out he must had been passed out for at least 30 minutes. The battle had raged on til most of the immigrant soldiers were dead, the rest had retreated. They had found him as they were clearing the battlefield. They had been able to gather up a lot of supplies. The doc had told him his leg was really what was called a “greenstick fracture.” That most likely the spongy forest floor had absorbed most of the impact of the tree falling and allowed his leg to “give” enough to prevent an actual broken bone. He would have a cast on for 4-6 weeks and have to take it easy.
The word coming in on the radio was a general uprising of regular folk against the plans of the government and the immigrant soldiers. Battles were being fought all over the country in the rural areas and there was a lot of sniping incidents happening. A shot would ring out and a government official or immigrant soldier would drop with a bullet hole in them. The government was labeling anyone not going along with the takeover as being a rebel and unpatriotic. Jason couldn't see how he was unpatriotic by fighting against the takeover but a lot of people in the big liberal cities were thinking so. Those liberal people had their chests all puffed out about how patriotic they were in siding with the government and the immigrant soldiers.
Jason finally got his cast off after 5 weeks. He was able to do some work in his workroom because of the generator and fuel the Spec Op guys had set up. His FAL was salvageable as parts. His bolt action rifle, it looked okay but when he closely checked, the barrel had a very slight bend in it. When he had shot that guy at close range, it was good enough to hit him, but the bend that was in the barrel would be sending the bullet off target 12 inches at 100 yards. He could maybe straighten the barrel but it would never be a tack driver anymore. The action was still good. So he started building a new gun from parts he had in stockpile. Then he would move on to working on another FAL.
Locally things were mostly quiet. There were only small skirmishes with 3 man immigrant teams that were quickly dealt with. Going through the recovered supplies from the enemy revealed that they weren't equipped as good as they used to be. The rations carried by them were smaller and the ammo load was down to 2 extra magazines. Their clothes were showing signs of wear. The MS said that was showing a breakdown in the immigrants supply chain. Word on the radio was showing that people were making headway against the immigrants and the government.
With the generator that had been supplied by the Spec Ops months ago, Jason had continued his work of keeping the weapons in top shape plus work on his replacement weapons. In 2 weeks he was able to make another FAL like his old one. Then he started work on his bolt action. Selecting a match grade barrel from his stockpile, he cut a more gentle slope in the chamber so it would handle cast bullets better. The standard 308 throat angle was steeper for ease of mass production and with jacketed bullets, that gave acceptable accuracy. But cast bullets couldn't handle the sharper angle, often shaving of lead through it. Jason wasn't after acceptable accuracy though, he knew that paying attention to details and not cutting corners for cost savings was the best way. He carefully joined the barrel to the action, truing it up. Then he selected a wood blank to make the stock from, a nice walnut piece with beautiful grain. Finished with the stock, he made 2 hollow rods to pillar bed the action in glass bedding. He topped it with a 3-9X power scope with lapped scope rings holding the scope.
He cast some lead bullets from his mold, put on the gas checks on the rear of the bullets and lubed them with the special lube from Veral Smith that he had stockpiled. He then loaded them in the brass casings using his favorite powder load. Having already bore sighted the scope so it would be close on target, he took it to the range to try it out. Word spread that Jason was going to shoot his rifle and a lot of people that weren't on watch gathered to see him and his new rifle. A target was set up on the 100 yard line of their shooting range. After making sure the range was clear of people, Jason settled into the shooting bench and nestled the rifle into the sand bags. He chambered the 1st round, settling the crosshairs of the scope on the bulls eye of the target, he steadied his breathing and squeezed the trigger. Another man was watching through a 20X spotting scope and called the bullet hole in the exact center of the target. Jason loaded the 2nd round and fired it. He did this for 5 shots, the guy with the spotting scope saying he only saw 1 hole, was Jason missing the target?
Everyone walked out to the target, there was 1 hole in the middle of the bulls eye. Jason pulled out his digital caliper from his pocket, measuring across the outside edges of the hole. His bullets measured at .309 and the calipers measured the hole at .310 inches. Everyone gasped when they realized that he had placed 5 shots basically in the same hole. Walking back to the firing line, making sure the range was clear, he shot offhand. The guy on the spotting scope said it was just touching the hole from his 1st shots. With that, Jason figured it was time to quit while he was ahead. Barb leaned in and whispered in his ear that she had a prize for him back in the house for his marksmanship.

A bit of a stretch for a rifle to be that consistent, but still very entertaining. Thanks for the new chapter.

Jason woke up the next morning to find himself alone in bed. Remembering last night he had a big grin on his face. Then Barb walked into the bedroom wearing nothing but a smile and carrying a tray of food. She said he looked like he would be hungry after last night. Placing the tray on the bed between them, she sat on the bed. He saw a small, gift wrapped present on the tray. She pushed it towards him saying it was for him. Jason said he had the best present last night. She blushed but told him to open it. He picked up the box, feeling it was light. Shaking it, he heard nothing, Then he opened it. Peeling back the gift paper on top revealed an object that was slim and about 6 inches long. His eyes grew wide with wonder and then happiness as he saw it had 2 blue lines on it.

Jason took her in his arms and hugged her. She told him she had went to doc and he had given her the EPT stick and it showed positive. She figured she had got pregnant right after they had married and she was about 2 months along. They were both so happy with the upcoming child. They spent hours planning on what they needed to do to get ready for the birth.
While Jason and Barb were celebrating, the war was still going on. The government and immigrants were starting to lose, a turning point had occurred. The big cities were still firmly under the government control using lots of propaganda and immigrant soldiers. Also captured “rebels” were being used as slave labor to take care of the “menial tasks” in the cities so the woke people were happy to sit around and have everything done for them. But as soon as the city limits were crossed, it became no man's land to the government and immigrants.
Once the soldiers left the city, they were under constant sniper attacks. A shot would ring out and a soldier died, or a soldier lagged behind for a “nature call” and never returned. The immigrant soldiers morale was down. This wasn't the easy “cake walk they had been told it would be against these soft Americans. Sure, the woke liberal people making up the most in the cities had been easy to take over, then they had run up against freedom loving people of the rural areas. The government was hurting so bad that supplies to fight with had been decreased, putting them at a disadvantage. Soldiers weren't getting paid, their food was skimpy, their clothing was now getting ragged. There was talk of the immigrant soldiers going back to their own countries.

The President and all remaining State Governors were in a meeting in a room deep under the Capitol of the Nation. They were discussing the situation they found themselves in. In the beginning, they had thought the people of the Nation had been brainwashed enough to fall for their trap and the few that didn't, would be of no consequence. But they admitted that they had misjudged the big impact the few would have on their plans. They had thought they would have been able to steamroll right over the few who resisted. They had planned on using the empty rural areas to produce food and materials for the remaining slaves / people in the cities but with the stiff resistance, that hadn't happened. Also things had been promised from the rural areas to the immigrant soldiers that they hadn't been able to pay because of the resistance.
The President and Governors all agreed that there was only 1 thing left they could do – Operation Termination.

I grew up in the 60's and 70's. You know, the Hippie generation! My generation was really BIG on dropping out of society. But, apparently, that is a rough way to live, because most of them returned to the city for economic reasons. Guess what? That is the generation that is running things now. Who would have thunk it? ? The generation of "make love not war", honesty, etc, is now running the country....... I have not noticed that the USA is any more peaceful or loving or ethical.

Some of the Governors asked if Operation Termination really needed to be used, that it would be a drastic move. And what about all the immigrant soldiers out in the rural areas conducting operations. The President laughed, along with most of the Governors, saying that they were only peons and just as expendable as the people. They were here to serve the elites, living or dying as the elites saw fit. That the immigrant soldiers would die anyway, whether now or later if they had succeeded in taking over the US for the elites. The immigrant janitor cleaning up inside the ventilation duct work sat there in anger and disbelief as he heard them talk.
He slowly crept away through the duct work. He needed to find an immigrant officer and tell them what he had heard, then he would be sneaking off to head back to his own country and family to avoid Operation Termination which was an aerosol chemical that would kill upon contact with the skin or being breathed. The elites said they had enough of it stored, that they could kill every person in the world.
