Found this (its in 9 parts) due to a link on BHM. Thought it was worth sharing.
Now I'm not a doomsayer re peak oil. As I've posted elsewhere, there are options - like oil shale, and oilgae to explore yet, so I don't see it as badly as this doco does.

I just watched this in its' entirety, and want to thank you profusely for posting it! I have had a problem trying to find suitable material to get this message to some friends and family, and this is an excellent primer on the subject.
There is much, much more to know about this. One thing they talked about a lot, but didn't seem to summarize, is the idea of EROEI = Energy Return on Energy Invested. That term is useful for discussing what happens when the "easy" oil is gone.
As was stated in the videos, grain alcohol is a net losing propostion, when approached with current technology. At best, it can convert some biomass into something suitable for an internal combustion engine. If some work was done to use concentrated passive solar for distillation, it could get a lot better EROEI.
But they outlined the problem well--there are no known substitutes for cheap oil, except expensive oil. I do not pretend to have a handle on the timeframe for energy scarcity and higher costs. However, I am willing to bet a lot on the direction this is going, and that the politics will prevent any meaningful mitigation of the problem until it is far too late to do much good.
