There's a preppers chapter here in Reno, with me checking Craigslist for free stuff on a regular basis. Basically, it's chickens and roosters, sometimes it'll be 55 gallon oil drums. But I put links to those items for people to take a look at.

The local Craig's List had 55 gallon plastic barrels that had contained de-ionized water (what they use in steam turbines because it's extra clean). If I was able to move those barrels, I would have one in the basement now with a 12 volt pump on it as my backup water supply.

Come summer, looking at getting 2 metal barrels and with a kit, hope to make a double barrel stove to warm up my place. Or a single barrel and have a piece of steel welded to the top part of the barrel so I'll have the option of cooking on it. And there's ALWAYS free pallets and I got a pallet buster awhile back to make that chore easier. I've also seen free rabbits and chickens listed. And I raised rabbits as a kid, which went on the family table on a regular basis, along with those I shot with Dads .410.

If there's an ax-throwing place near you, they replace the wood targets on a regular basic. The 2x6 or so wood looks like it might be pine but that might not be a concern in a barrel stove or a fire pit.
The used wood is on pallets outside the back door and you can't beat FREE!
