It is possible--no matter how unlikely. There are too many Variables right now, for the results of Serious Violence in the Streets to be Accurately Forseen. To have a Ghost of a Chance to mount a Coup de ete', one must have a reasonable fraction of the Armed Forces behind one. The Professional Soldiers will have more than enough spare weapons on hand, to Arm Reasonable numbers of your Minions. The Professional Soldiers also make the Military value of any Armed Rabble Marginal. That isn't the Same as a General Insurrection, where every man, woman and child, from 8 to 80--including the maimed, the halt, and the near Blind-- Grabbing up every .22; .410; 10 Gauge Goose Gun( In addition to--not in place of Superior Firearms)--along with every tire tool, butcher knife, rolling pin, and pruning axe that they can lay hand on--to overthrow a hated oppressor..... {That would be the French Revolution, and the Bolshevik uprising in Russia. Note--Despite "Good Intentions"; both groups won, and in winning..... Worsened their situation drastically.} No, I do think any group, regardless of how Radical, Subversive, or Desperate they may be getting, is quite ready to risk it all on One Throw of the Dice just yet. .....RVM45

This fits in with my Cesspool theory of governments. Every govt. on the planet is like a cesspool, in that they consist of the "upper crust", and keep a lid on the stink below them.
Thus, it makes NO sense to me to disturb that upper crust! If it is removed, then the whole works REALLY stinks to high heaven for quite a while. Eventually, more big hunks float to the top and form a NEW upper crust, abating the smell somewhat without really changing anything significantly. Then, you are back right where you started. Best to leave it alone to start with, or even better, to work on treating the sewage. Ignoring it won't make it go away. What is needed is improvement in the quality of public servants. Throwing out one nasty bunch in exchange for another like it is NOT the answer, and is, at best, an exercise in futility. Emotion has no place in the selection of rulers, since either emotion or reason will rule the mind at any given time. If emotion rules, then reason is left out. That is a poor way to choose either a government, or a mate.
Hope I don't get thrown off the board for the above, but it is the best analogy I could come up with.
