Remember the devaluation of money in Patience's stories? First go check the current value of the Euro in US dollars: www.xe.com/ucc/convert/?Amount=1&From=EUR&To=USDThen go check the value of a silver dime: www.coinflation.com/silver_coin_values.htmlThose two values have been tracking within a penny or two for the last week or so, as the value of that dime has varied from $1.12 to $1.14. Inflation isn't real. You just think the .gov is printing money to pay for things they can't afford... Quantitative easing = printing money that is backed by "the faith and credit of the US government". They're not using the term now, but they're still printing "money" - or at least the green and gray paper... That silver dime I mentioned? That's money. The silver in it was worth $1.13 when I posted this.

New Dollars for Old Dollars. At a hundred to one, they're doin' you a favor. Think of how much skinnier your wallet's gonna be. Patience's idea for diggin' your nickels and dimes out from between the couch cushions and roundin' up all your loose change makes sense if coinage is necessary, but too hard to replace. Should our dot-gov ever decide to go to new currency at such an exchange rate, gas that's now 3 bucks a gallon would then be 3 cents. A quarter would be more than enough to fill the tanks of any two of my vehicles at once. Hell, my bike with the 4 gallon tank could be filled for a nickel with enough left over for a candy bar. And that silver dime, it would probably be worth whatever an value an astute person assigned it. Readily recognizable as a precious metal of a known, fixed quality. And older copper pennies will always be good as fuses. Kids, ask your grandparents what a fuse box is.

My maternal grandparents had a house built in the early part of the 20th century and the fuse box was on the screened back porch - all four 15 amp fuses.
The end of that porch closest to the kitchen sink was where they added the bathroom, complete with its very small blue flame natural gas heater behind the door - if you left the door open when the heater was on, it would blister or char the paint on the back of the door. Fire hazard? What fire hazard? We know it's there.
