I use a rice cooker to make meals with but this can be done with an open fire and a dutch oven. I mix one cup of regular rice with two cups of water. When I make a meal in a rice maker I use one and one-half cup of rice and three cups of water and some times I add flavoring (Better than bouillon) but some times I don't. I also use the steaming basket to steam kielbasa while the rice is cooking. I can add a frozen vegetable to the rice and use different flavors in the rice. You can use different meats in the steamer basket for a different taste. I use rice for long term storage and try different things to give it a different taste. I can never understand why people say that rice, beans or other things taste bad when they can add many flavors to what then eat. They should remember that LTS and emergency food is for an emergency only and not a fancy meal. You have to add things to it to change the taste or go with out. Ralph

Rice for breakfast. I like it like a hot cereal, with sugar, butter, and a little milk. Leftover cooked rice heated up and then add scrambled eggs to cook.

I haven't had rice for breakfast since I was a kid. Guess it's time to be in my second childhood ;-)
