SUMMARYArmchair historians have long suspected the existence, but have never seen or heard, of an infamous government recording from the Cold War era featuring then-celebrity Arthur Godfrey (think of him as a 1950s version of Tom Hanks or Morgan Freeman) looking into a television camera and reassuring an American public after a supposed nuclear attack from the Soviet Union. America, apparently, wasn't the only one prepared for the End Times. The cable news channel CNN was as well. A former CNN intern has leaked what was intended to be the final broadcast video in the event of a catastrophic incident where the news channel would have no choice but to cease operations indefinitely, such as a worldwide pandemic, asteroid strike or nuclear war. Unlike the United States government, though, the "CNN Doomsday Video" has been hiding in plain sight for a number of years, especially at CNN itself. Ted Turner, the founder of the news channel, even confirmed the existence of the video and described what the video was: A military band playing the tune "Nearer, my God, to Thee" that events fades to black with neither commentary nor writing.
