So it was a pretty good tale but frankly your language warnings weren't needed. Almost everyone I know uses some sort of profanity in the course of a day -- in my case its usually when I'm on I40 or TN 385 around Memphis but I'm sure I'm not alone there. If you have time, keep writing; if not well, thanks for this one. G
Wait your wait through Atlanta a few times - North <=> South and East <=> West - that might get you to using some creative new words that you haven't used before ;-) Our medical services are there but we mostly (98%) avoid the interstates and take surface streets when we're there. Rarely more than 5-10 minutes difference in travel time and lots more options for getting around traffic jams. Sometimes a GPS is even useful ;-)

Thanks and yes, I do plan on writing more chapters, but got other things I'm waiting on first. Our Dad died Jan. 16th and surprised being left some money. Plan on buying a used class A motorhome, driving it to Florida where brother and his family live. I still live in the Reno area. Will visit them for at least a month as life is simply too short and don't want to be dying some day and filled with regrets of gee, I should of done this and this and this and.... Then to Nebraska where I have uncles, aunts, etc. that I've never met...and I'm 66 now, though Andy is at least 5-7 years younger in this story. I wrote the story based on my actual age/physical condition at the time. After that, hitting Idaho and Oregon for more first hand reference, including photos.
I do have 2 chapters partially written, maybe 6 pages or so each. One takes place with Andy & company heading for Idaho with its cattle and potato farms as many in Portland/surrounding area are starving/short on food. The other is Andy running for his life from beasts/devil worshippers after he returns from Idaho. Andy REALLY p*ssed off those people this time. The 2nd chapter has several surprises in it and if wondering, I DO have a plot outline for this story, with me coming up with different things to add to it. Now I could of faked a lot of stuff story wise, but it's always been a case of having been there, done that from Reno to Portland on a regular basis when I used to drive truck. As to Andy's gear, I own/use it, along with coming up with ideas of my own on how to use different things, like balloons, fire extinguishers and airlines on semi-trucks. This is why I ALWAYS kept a garden hose ready to use when trying stuff in my backyard.
FYI: this story was originally posted at Survivalist Boards website for about a year way back when. Someone complained and not only was the story yanked, got suspended for a week for "excessive descriptive violence, sexual content and foul language". When asked what happened to my story by the readers, I told them and got suspended for another week. Remember, this is from Andy's diary and his only release from his fears and hopes. There are new people coming into/out of Andy's life later on, along with familiar characters coming back.

If we've waited this long, I suppose a bit longer won't hurt too much.

If you liked this one, you might like "Burnout" (not mine, just one I ran across several months ago on Pam's List). Cutter Dunn is a jack-of-all-trades "ghost" turned trucker in the not-far-future where "chipped" people "exist" and the non-chipped people are "ghosts" who work on the fringes of "existence". Chipped people are recognized by executives, banks, cops, ATM machines, etc., but the "ghosts" work at low-paying jobs that are paid in cash only - no electronics work unless you can be identified by your chip. Cutter provides the know-how to build a better highway transport truck then gets the bum's rush from the company. If that sounds like a good start, the ebook was still free when I checked about 10 minutes ago: www.amazon.com/Burnout-Sean-Platt-ebook/dp/B09R9VC3NP
