A most excellent story, all the better because it has such a sense of authenticity.

The late Patience (Jerry Conrad) is one of my favorite authors. The people, places and situations are such that I wonder how many were from real life - I've certainly know a few that would match ;-) His stories include Dirty Money, From the Bottom Up, Not Quite Eden, Told Ya So and Transitions - my apologies if I missed some.
He also wrote under the name Machinist on some other forums.

I think you'll find that applies to all of Patience's stories.

Great story. Sorry to hear that the author has passed. I bet I've read all of his stuff at least three times. We're lucky to've gotten as many stories as have been posted.

Very much agree on the "at least". I'm grateful for what we have but I could have dealt with another 20 or 30 stories of that caliber.

I'm grateful for what we have but I could have dealt with another 20 or 30 stories of that caliber. Yeah, it's as if we all hope that somebody'll find a bunch of his stuff stashed away somewhere. Then again, sir, as you know, I put you in the same class. If one of his stories ever turns up unfinished, you'd be the one I'd hope to see complete it. If I'd had a chance to sit and have a beer with him and yourself, I imagine it would've been a real treat. Since I probably haven't said it in too long, thanks for what you've shared with us. Just wish I could've said the same to Machinist, but he passed before I joined the board. Rob J

Thanks folks. I mostly had 2 things in mind: 1) Explore another way this could end, and 2) Look at what happens when relatives/non-preppers descend on us. Yes, it is a very optimistic view of both those issues. Maybe it will help somebody think about these things and be ready for them. I guess I was working on writing more about people/less about preps, and learning to characterize, too. Hopefully the prep angles worked in sensibly. Thank You so much for that story patience. I really enjoyed it.

Great story. Sorry to hear that the author has passed. Oh. So sad to hear that. Those stories were up there with the Greats of PAW fiction IMHO. I hope patience is swapping ideas, yarns and stories with the likes of TOM and Fleataxi around some fire somewhere. Vale patience.
