Our power co-op has 134 meters out - some of them now more than 8 hours stale.
The other power co-op in the county has 497 meters out, many with an 8AM or later ERT.
Georgia Power has 21,437 meters out, with the 8330 meters in metro Atlanta listed as "Assessing Condition", as are the 3913 meters just south of Athens, the 1414 meters near Columbus, the 1600 meters near Millen, the 821 meters in the area of Ohoopee and Surrency. However, the 495 meters between Valdosta and Hahira have an ERT of 8:30AM. I'd question that last one, as the storm is still going strong in that area...
We have winds "15 to 25mph, gusting to 35mph" until 8PM today so I expect some of the repairs to be slow and I also expect the number of meters out to grow as long as the wind keeps gusting...
Not a good day yesterday or a good night for the power companies.

Our power co-op still has 148 meters out - after you expand the the map and determine how many outages and how many meters because the web page math would embarrass a third grader.
The other power co-op in the county still has about 495 meters out from 3:22PM today - they're now guessing 11:30PM. Might be good if they get it fixed tonight as there is an elementary school in the middle of that outage.
Georgia Power's 21,000 meters from earlier today are down to 2100 so they've made good progress but there are still a lot of meters out.
I can tell that today's winds - gusting to 35MPH (forecast wind speed; maybe higher from the noise it's made going across the top of the chimney) - were bad because the front yard and the back drive looks like someone did a lot of tree work and never cleaned up after themselves :-( Haven't seen that much tree debris in a long time. No, I will not be out trying to clear that. The yard guy should be here in a week or two and my body is saying "You can wait."
I'm aware of ONE flicker of a light and an associated UPS BEEP! about an hour ago. Very little effect on our power when there have been - and still are - so many outages around us.

Today's "Wind gusting to 40MPH until 8PM" is definitely happening.
Our power co-op had 178 meters out the last time I looked. The other power co-op in the county had about 50. Georgia Power had 21,400 meters out which is about the same level as yesterday. Not a good day for the power companies...
Both the trash and the recycle bins were blown over and the gas grill's cover was blown off - in spite of the Velcro fasteners that make the cover "wasp-waisted" where it's below the shelves on each end of the grill. We have had worse wind - once the grill was turned 90 degrees (cable to a heavy eye bolt in the PT landscape timber that runs along the back of the paver "patio" I built just to have grilling space) and then the grill was dumped on its face.
The Polish sausage I might have grilled tonight will likely be heated in the microwave oven because I'm not sure the grill burners can stay lit in that much wind and the better half will probably want to eat earlier than 8:30 (forecast end of wind gusts at 8PM + time for grill to get a quick clean and then heat enough to grill the sausage).
There are the brief periods when even the wind chimes on the screened porch go silent for a short while and I'm looking out to see if the leaves on the trees are still moving because the silence of the wind chimes might indicate they've been blown off their hook in the ceiling of the screened porch.
"The Silence of the Lambs" was a movie title. Could "the silence of the wind chimes" be a PAW story title? Think about it: tornado, hurricane, pressure wave from a nuke, something else? Not likely to be from me at I hit the Rx med bottle for a tablet and a half 2 hours ago and I'm now debating whether I should add another tablet of Rx pain med or a milliliter or two of CBD oil - maybe the new bottle that is THC free and is "Blood Orange" flavor? If I take enough of the mainstream CBD oil (absolute dosage and time period of "enough" yet to be determined), it shows up un the semi-monthly drug screen the doctor does when you're on a high level of narcotic pain meds. When I spoke to the PA last week, he wasn't particularly concerned about the THC in the report because most of the time I include the CBD use in the weekly log - "most of the time" means when I'm not hurting so much that writing it down is "too much trouble". I'm not the only patient to be using CBD from the same vendor (Lazarus Naturals) so I'm not the only one to have THC show up in the tests.
On the brighter side, I added almost 800 words to another "Jack Wilson" story that's been hanging fire for a LONG time. At the rate it's progressing, I don't expect to have anything ready for prime time for a year or possibly longer - unlike James Patterson, I don't have someone I can pass the idea and a few nuggets to and have them do the grunt work. The working title is "Not a War - This Time?" and it needs a lot of late 20th century history interaction to put Jack where he'll be when he's most needed. Maybe by 2030?

Still have around 3100 customers without power...but I have to wonder if they are counting those that no longer have homes due to the EF2 tornado Wednesday.
Look forward to seeing more of Jack's adventures!

I know that our power co-op had a large number of "meters out" for several days where an EF2 had touched down a year or so back.
I wouldn't be surprised if someone from outside had asked the CEO "Hey, Sam. When you gonna admit that those crushed trailers will not be coming back and stop posting those missing meters as 'meters out'?"

It's been raining off and on - mostly on - since 11PM yesterday. Best guess on the day's total rainfall is about an inch. The thermometer on the screened porch is showing 49F with maybe a high of 60F in the afternoon and an overnight low of 42. Three days ago, the high was 85F and the low was 58F. I think the weather is trying to make up for giving some days in March with May temperatures...
The rain has been hard enough at times to be heard inside through argon-filled double-pane windows. I'm not hearing rain on the roof - there's a floor above where I'm sitting.
If April showers really do bring May flowers, I'll need a bush hog to trim the roses :-(

It's 5:30AM and the overnight "Chance of Thundershowers" has not been good for power.
Georgia Power has 3249 meters with 1414 of those in Ballground with details of "An outage has been reported in your area." 1029 in Auburn with details of "An outage has been reported in your area." Thunderstorms are either still active or have recently passed over the affected areas.
We may have gotten a little rain but the storm was forecast to go across the north end of the county. The county is 50 miles North to South so one end can have a pleasant, sunny day while the other end has power out from thunderstorms.
Neither our power co-op nor the other one in the county has any meters out and we've not had a single UPS "Beep!".

Georgia has a couple of large outages from today's spotty thunderstorms. Between Clayton and Bull Sluice GA: 866 meters out from tree down. And the thunderstorms just got there in the past 5 minutes. Adams Crossroads has 904 meters out from "An outage".
These are mostly popup thunderstorms that happen suddenly and are over quickly but today's storms seem to have a lot of horsepower.

We are in "Tornado Season". www.usatoday.com/story/news/2023/04/18/when-is-tornado-season-2023/11650152002/When is tornado season? Tornadoes can happen anywhere, at any time, although there are peak months in different regions. About 70% of tornadoes occur from March to June. The central U.S., for example, experiences peak tornado season from April through June, according to the National Weather Service. Tornadoes typically hit the Southeast in the cooler months and move to the southern and central plains in May and June. The northern plains, as well as the Midwest, tend to see a heavier tornado season in June and July.

The thunderstorms that have gone across the northern quarter of the state - but not (yet?) dipped down on us - have Georgia Power with 14,715 meters out. And the tail of that storm is still in MS.
Near the GA/TN state line, there are 50+ outages affecting 4670 meters - with a lot of "Assessing Condition". Maybe 50 miles east of there, there are 30 outages affecting 1125 meters - with a lot of "Assessing Condition". Maybe 30 miles east of that, there are 50+ outages affecting 4093 meters - with a lot of "Assessing Condition". 30 miles south of there, there are 26 outages affecting 4488 meters - with a lot of "Assessing Condition".
So far, the metro Atlanta area has 17 outages affecting 157 meters. Our power co-op has 1 outage affecting 11 meters. The other power co-op in the county has 3 outages affecting 18 meters. Across the state, 12 other power co-ops have a total of 28,800 meters out - starting at 2 meters and going up to 9599.
That thunderstorm is still moving and we're now under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning until 8:30AM (3/4" hail, 60MPH winds) but the hourly forecast is Scattered Thunderstorms at 9AM, Thunderstorms at 10AM and 11AM, Heavy Thunderstorms at noon, Thunderstorms at 1PM and 2PM and then Scattered Thunderstorms. And there's a Tornado Watch until 1PM. The better half was going to a birthday lunch for a lady friend from the church but I think she may change her mind when she sees the forecast and the radar map.
And we got a two three "full dark" power hits while I was posting the above. The laptop has a new battery which should be good for 6+ hours and a backlit keyboard so I don't even need to get out an oil lamp to post ;-) Having UPS units for all the internet hardware also helps with staying online - but I don't have more than $20 in any UPS (battery for a Craig's List freebie) other than the big UPS (810 watts, pure sine wave) which powers the A/V cabinet - that one I bought on sale for $129 and I smile every time it saves the 50" TV from a power surge ;-)
Thanks to those power hits, our power co-op now has 4 outages affecting 491 meters.
We're about a half mile from the biggest of those outages (477 meters). Nice to be able to read the power co-op's outage map ;-)
As the storm has moved south, Georgia Power's outages are up to 15,221 meters.
The updated forecast has us getting Strong Thunderstorms until 9:15AM.

A second look at our power co-op's outage map an hour later and that 477 meter outage runs all the way back to substation - so that's one entire leg of the substation down. Since that outage is still active, there must have been some serious damage...
And the Heavy Thunderstorms don't get here until noon.
