Why the push for a "paperless society" and "new math" which makes simple arithmetic difficult?
How would you respond to claims of conspiracy and totalitarian government?
If you can't do simple math, you can't add up your credit/debit card statement without using a calculator or an app - and the "approved" app could be coded to keep you in the dark.
If you don't have paper records, your bank balance becomes a "he said, she said" with your bank.
If all financial records are electronic, the government could do a currency re-evaluation in one click and your $1 million retirement fund could be $100,000 - or less. With a similar cut to your salary - and you hope to your mortgage or rent and your car note. And they could impose new "fees" and "surcharges" that take half of the remaining income you have - and with no paper records you couldn't prove otherwise. Enough of that and they could wipe out the government's indebtedness without printing a single dollar bill.
Being tarred and feathered was more humiliating than damaging for most people. For our current crop of politicians, I think hanging for treason - "aiding and abetting" - would be more useful: 1. It cleans the slate. 2. It instills respect for (fear of?) the people they are elected to represent.
