Ideas from the Provident Prepper - might prove useful if your area is one forecast for "colder than usual winter" in the Old Farmer's Almanac: www.youtube.com/watch?v=-f6riZ5MCWM

Suppose to snow over the Sierras from Saturday to Tuesday. Bought 30 gallons of kerosene for both of my heaters. One's a forced air, the other, barrel type. And BEFORE it got really cold, made sure all my heater tapes on the water pipes were up & running. Thinking of putting some hurt on my OLD behind by digging out a tent I bought last year and putting it in the snow we did get earlier. Got a tarp to lay under it, along with the MSS sleeping bag which is supposed to be good for -10 degrees. Haven't decided if I'm going to cheat though.....use my single burner Coleman propane stove or Moms small, barrel type barbeque, which means splitting up some old lumber pieces I've gat saved up. if I go that route, will use my ferro rod and some petroleum soaked cotton balls. If I do any of this, will take/photos and post 'em if possible.
