Thanks for the great comments! Definitely taking them into account

“At nine hours since the start of the zombie outbreak, the situation on the ground is decidedly mixed. While cities like Houston have effectively beaten back the hordes and are only facing zombies in suburbs and surrounding areas, other places like El Paso are facing potential decimation. Some are calling on President Roberts to lift the lockdown and let the people of the city fight back against the zombies. Senator McDaniels has been leading that charge, saying in a statement that the President cannot abandon any state in the union at its most dire hour. The President has not responded at this time, but we will update you if and when he does. Meanwhile, some are arguing that the President should ‘wipe El Paso off the map’ to prevent the further spread of the zombie infection. To speak more on that we have George Wright. Hello, Mr. Wright. How are you doing?”
“Hello, Raymond. I’d be doing better if the President was willing to take the dramatic action necessary in this time of crisis. How are you doing?”
“I’m doing alright. You say the President should ‘wipe out’ the city of El Paso?”
“Yes, I do.”
“But what about the huge amount of civilian casualties that that would cause amongst all the people currently sheltering in place within the city?”
“The Governor and President have already told people to leave the city. The people currently sheltering in place would be given adequate time to leave. Unlike a normal enemy, zombies are mindless, so giving advance notice of a bombing wouldn’t impact its effectiveness at wiping out the enemy. So they should set a time, then send in the bombers.”
“But what about people who are unable to leave the city?”
“Look, we’re dealing with an honest-to-God zombie outbreak in an American state. If President Roberts wants this to spread, then he’s free to do nothing and let it. This has already spread throughout the state of Texas. Next it could be in New Mexico or Louisiana or Oklahoma or Arkansas. Hell, for all we know it could be on the way to Michigan. So the President needs to take bold action to wipe this out now.”
“But that seems like a very extreme reaction, doesn’t it? Cities like Houston show that a city can be cleared by ground troops without unnecessary civilian casualties.”
“Raymond, I don’t think you’re understanding just how desperate this situation could become. I’ve read enough zombie fiction to know how quickly these things spread out of control. We need bold action and we need it now. The longer we wait, the worse things get. We can see that in several cities right now and we’ll see it in more places.”
“I’d like to go back to what you said that this virus could already be on its way out of the state. So how would bombing a single city prevent that?”
“It would prevent it from spreading via land. It would also wipe a whole bunch of zombies off the map in one go. Once the CDC figures out more about the virus, we can set up checkpoints to prevent it from spreading in other ways.”
“Wouldn’t it be better to quarantine the city and set up checkpoints around it like is being done now in places like Houston rather than bombing it off the map?”
“We’ve already seen soldiers overrun and decimated by a small number of them. And from what we’ve learned from the CDC, this spreads like a zombie virus from fiction, so every person we lose to these zombies joins their ranks. So we could try that, if we want more cities to be overrun. But that’s not what I want, and I doubt it’s what you or the people of the country want either. This is a time that requires us to take bold action, even if it sounds crazy to some people. So that’s why I’m calling on President Roberts to do just that. And that’s all there is to say. It’s that simple.”
“Thank you for taking the time to speak with us at this late hour.”
“My pleasure.”
“That was George Wright arguing that the President needs to take bold action to wipe out the zombies in El Paso. So far there’s been no response from President Roberts’ office, but if there is one, KTRK will issue an update immediately. We have received word from Representative Veronica Deb of TX-16 that she strongly opposes any plan that includes the destruction of her beloved city of El Paso.”
