Well Iceland looks like the lava will reach the ocean soon. It does tend to be finicky at times though.

Iceland took a week break but is back in full flow, and has now become a destination for an American wedding.

Iceland is going full bore, and now add Cumbre Vieja in the Canary Islands, in a population center.
Their tv is showing a moving wall of lava several feet high. It is the real deal baby.

Might be a good time for me to re-read A. T. Hagan's "We Interrupt This Program" for abut the third time.

Cumbre Vieja is especially scary because of predictions that an explosion there would put part of the mountain's side into the ocean, creating a tsunami in the Atlantic Ocean - a wave possibly hundreds of feet high when it hits the US coastline (plus South America, Europe, UK, etc).
Being more than 1000 feet above sea level and about 250 miles inland from the nearest point on the Atlantic or Gulf coast, we'd likely be safe from the wave but so much of the fuel processing (refineries, crude oil/LNG terminals) are near/on the coast that there would be an immediate halt to much gasoline/diesel/natural gas/LP production and transport. If the co-generation power plant at Port Arthur, TX (runs on natural gas because it's next door to the refinery) is damaged or destroyed, the pipeline(s) from there to the rest of the country would be shut down - can't pump gas/giesel/whatever without electricity and the refinery can't be run either. If you think of a tsunami as a "wet earthquake" in terms of damage, you quickly see how much damage the explosion of that volcano could do this far away. Very little construction (other than a nuke bunker) will survive a wall of water 100+ feet high.
Scary enough for one post?

And the "greenies" aren't complaining about the .gov not putting stoppers in the tops of the volcanoes? The volcanoes have to be producing as much smoke as fireplaces and wood burning stoves and as much CO2 as half the world's human and cattle population ;-)
Maybe we could stuff the volcanoes with greenies? Greta doesn't seem to be useful for much else...

Scratch that. La Palma had an explosive eruption, covered a town and has made a new peninsula on the island. Guess it doesn't care about the Thanksgiving holiday.

Will it drop the side of the volcano and give a present of a tsunami for Christmas?
