Could they share those lava vents? Maybe one each in Minneapolis, Chicago and DC?
There's a sc-ifi story where the Commiefornia traffic jams on the interstates get so bad they have heavy-lift choppers coming in with big buckets of concrete because it's faster to pave over the interstate than to clear the jam. Maybe cover sections of those cities from the ground up instead of flying in concrete?

Not sure if there is enough concrete.

Iceland is trying again with another wall. They are trying to protect the ring road around Reykjavik.

Well Etna is acting up a bit, but nothing like Iceland.

The one in Iceland is erupting constantly now.

Explosive eruptions around 1.5 min. apart. The valley is filling up.

Just need to save all that geothermal heat for next winter ;-)

Well it really did happen. Someone was toasting marshmallows over the lava

I might consider that - with a 20 foot pole ;-)

They were using what looked like a child's rake. They did have to move back a lot. They have added another wall trying to protect a small village.

"added another wall" - I'm thinking it should be more like "added 1/2 mile of Hoover Dam".

Just a bit more on the marshmallow roaster. It was a Frenchman.

The eruption is still going as strong as ever.

The volcano has been dumping huge amounts of lava lately. The cone has collapsed and been rebuilt twice. The ground is being covered at an increasing rate. It is awesome to watch but still scary at the same time.

And some people think the likelihood of Yellowstone erupting is minimal. If Yellowstone was doing an equivalent oozing of lava (in an amount proportional to its size), how many square miles would have already been covered and how much would the average air temperature for the state have increased?
Yellowstone's eruption cycle has been estimated at around 600,000 years. The most recent eruption was dated 640,000 years ago. Anyone wanna make bets?

Well how many square miles is 30 million cubic meters? No bets.

30,000,000 cu mtr = 24,321 acre feet (24,321 acres covered 1 foot deep).
24,321 acres = 38 sq mi
City of Chicago covers 234 sq mi, so that would cover Chicago to 38/234 = 0.16 foot = 1.95 inches.
Would they even notice another 2 inches of dirt on the streets, parks, lakes, river?
Hot lava 2 inches deep would clear the slums - and just about evrything else...

On another front. My Etna in Sicily has had a large explosive eruption today, and the monitors on Hawaii are saying it is acting up again. In the meantime Iceland is still spewing lave on a fairly regular basis, making for some great videos.
