$4/month on the bill from County Water for "Streetlight Maintenance"
My better half told me she saw a couple of County crane trucks up the road this morning. Tonight we know what they were doing - the new streetlight they installed (pole and all) is maybe 5 times brighter than the one it replaced. I noticed that there was outside light coming in the window at the top of the garage door and then noticed that outside light was bright enough to throw a shadow on the vinyl blinds of a window at that end of the house. Good that the bedrooms aren't at that end...
Looks like I might be able to shut off the outside motion sensor lights on that end of the house as there's plenty of light out there - enough to throw tree shadows on the driveway - at least until the big maple tree finishes leafing out and blocks much of the light ;-)
I know the County uses some LED street lighting - pretty obvious when the light-emitting-device is small and painfully bright - but this is the first one at this brightness level on our road.

Seems the County is bringing our stretch of road into the 21st century - at least two more of the (by comparison) painfully bright streetlights were installed today.
If I cut down one of the dogwood trees, one of those lights is close to the right place for us to have a "free" yardlight ;-) If it were the dogwood with lots of rot, I'd already have done that, but the subject tree is one of the healthy ones so it will stay and I'll work on the diseased tree when I have full use of both hands (October?).

Heard a bird chirping at 5:10AM. He's in the street, directly under that new and very bright street light. Hey, stupid! The sun doesn't rise from that direction and daylight is still a while away. Maybe he's been getting water from the same place as Joe Biden?
