ian, There is a woman out there for you. You will meet her one day. Texican.... 50% of the women that express interest in me are married – NO THANKS! The other 50% I do okay in talking with until they find out I read PAW fiction. Then they run away fast, screaming something about me needing a white rubber jacket to wear with 2 attendants helping me put it on. ian, She is still out there and likes PAW fiction. You just haven't met her yet. Texican....

Mike told Daisy about his gut feeling and told her he was going to 2X all their bunker supplies. Guns, ammo, food, clothing, boots, coats, hats and gloves, canning jars and lids, etc. He talked to her about buying silver. He thought about gold but decided he would go with just silver. He bought $1,000,000 each of new American silver Eagles, pre 64 quarters and dimes. He also bought 5,000 of 1 oz silver rounds and several colloidal silver generators, some for his bunker and some for the medical store.
The vegetable and fruit crops were harvested and were bumper crops. The livestock were butchered and a lot of that Mike had processed into freeze dried. God was blessing his efforts to prepare.
It was coming up on the winter season and he remembered what the previous winter with the snow, ice and cold was like. Mike had 10 tri-axle loads of logs delivered to his place where he would cut it into firewood and split it to size. He estimated he would have 5 winters worth of firewood.
He also remembered how the township roads back in their area were not taken care of too well. So he had the assorted Trusts buy a small 4WD dump truck with snow plow, grit spreader and tire chains. That way they could plow the roads and also people could hire them to plow their driveways. Again, store employees got a discount.
Daisy told him that she had went down to the medical building that morning and spoke with the midwife. Mike said that was fine and asked how the midwife was doing. Daisy told him the midwife was doing good, both physically and in her business. That she also said Daisy should have no problems. Mike has a puzzled look on his face and says problems? Daisy says she is pregnant. Mike is sputtering – pregnant? - what? - how? Daisy says yes – pregnant, due in 6 months. And if you don't know how, I can take you to the bedroom for a refresher course on how babies are made. Mike was no dummy and said he would like a refresher course so they went to the bedroom for a few hours. Mike said he was a slow learner and would need to go over the course several times to be sure he understood.

Just keep looking for she is out there. Maybe shooting ranges, gun shops, Cabela's, etc. Texican.... As a side note I went to the biggest local gun store in this rural area this morning. The ammo and reloading shelves and gun racks were 80% empty. The owner says he orders but can't get anything.

Over the winter months, Mike added massive amounts of of diapers and assorted baby clothes. Mike was going to be a daddy and he was thrilled. He was attending all the midwife checkups and making sure Daisy was well taken care of. He also laid in assorted home school books covering all grades.
The winter months this year brought a lot of snow and cold temps, even for this area of the Appalachians. The 4WD dump truck with snow plow was getting a lot of use. But the roads were kept open and business went on as normal. Nothing had happened but Mike still had that gut feeling and kept ordering extra semi tractor loads of supplies for each of the stores every month. He bought lots of silver too every month. He also was getting $1,000,000 in cash every month to stash back as a precaution. Also a lot of people were being cross trained in the different skills.
Spring rolled around and the fields were being readied for crops this year. Mike added the livestock they would be raising this year. On top of that Daisy gave birth to a healthy baby boy, which he helped deliver. Mike was a proud dad and his chest seemed to of gained 4 inches the way he was walking around with it all puffed out. Mike was continuing to work 4hrs at every store on a rotating schedule.
Mike and Daisy along with their baby were in the bulk food store one day shopping when they overheard 2 women talking to each other about Mike. One of the women was saying that she couldn't see why Daisy married Mike. That he was a no account, not holding a steady job and not owning his own place, but just renting. That Mike would never amount to anything. Daisy looked at Mike and covered her mouth to stifle her laughter at Mike never going to amount to anything. Once outside Daisy broke into laughter and told Mike she would take him, rich or poor.
As summer started, the crops were growing, the livestock was putting weight on and business was booming. Then it was like a switch was thrown and the economy was crashing. The 1st day he had the businesses order 10 truckloads each of their essential supplies, overnight delivery. He continued that each day for a week until the distributors said they had no more product and had no clue when or if they would get more. One of the things he ordered extra was a trailer load of sand bags and he had the local quarry deliver many tons of sand to the stores.

Mike also put out to stop all internet sales from the businesses, local people sales only. Also an order that any employee caught buying and then reselling online would be fired and not sold any product. He wanted to keep the products locally. He had that gut feeling the items would be needed by the people soon.
He kept a steady re-order going on with the distributors. He had standing back orders to ship as much product as they got. After a few weeks, some items loosened up. He was able to get truck loads of cloth and leather for the business that made clothing and boots. Dried herbs was spotty but some was available. He wasn't ordering many guns, only FALs and AR 15's, magazines, repair parts for guns, ammo and reloading components. He was getting 4 semi trucks a week in of ammo, ordering mostly .308 and .223. The food delivery was very short, about 2 truckloads a week. Canned food was very slim, bulk beans and grains were better and he was still getting lots of canning jars and lids. He ordered another load of sand bags and got the local quarry to deliver more sand.
Mike hoped he had everything covered. Besides his own private bunker armory, the gun store now had in stock 200 FALs and 200 AR 15s. The store's inventory had well over 20,000,000 rds of 308 and 223 each. 45ACP, 9mm, 357Mag, and 40 cal had 1,000,000 rds each. 12G buckshot and slugs had 1,000,000 rds each. Gun powder was now measured in tons, primers by the pallet and bullets by the barrels. The excess ammo and powder that weren't needed right now were stored in other underground bunkers for safety. Mike had the feeling that even as a business, that the BATF may not approve of that much in inventory. Oh well.
Even with all that Mike had been buying and setting up the Trusts stores, between the profits and his remaining money from the lotto, he still had in excess of $400,000,000. What to do with that money. It seemed like the more he spent in helping others, the more God blessed his efforts and profits kept rolling in.

Its been 6 weeks since the economy shut down basically overnight. Reports had been coming in over the FM radio about how bad things were getting in the big cities but lately there were no longer anything said about it. All the official news reports were about “warm and fuzzy” things to make people feel good.
Several truckloads of ammo, medical supplies, cloth and leather were coming in each week but no food trucks in the last 2 weeks. The truck drivers were telling how bad it was in the big cities. About how people were being killed over a pack of Twinkies. How a small can of Spam was costing $10 a can. The Trusts offered the drivers a $1,000 cash bonus for each truckload of product they drove in.
Mike had a talk with Daisy about the stores. He wanted to come out in the open about him being the trustee of the stores, so that things could be done quicker with the bad times upon them. Daisy agreed, so a meeting was quickly called for all employees of all the stores so that Mike only had to say the info once. Needless to say there were a lot of very surprised people when Mike revealed he was the trustee for all the different stores and land and showed the paperwork proving who he was. The 2 women that had said he would never amount to anything, were present and had their mouths wide open in disbelief. Then a look of cunning came into their eyes as each one of them pulled out their pocket mirrors, touched up their lipstick, checked their hair and hiked up their jeans so they were tighter and undid another button on their shirts.

Amazing how little it takes to change the disposition of people. Pop a bully in their face, their attitude changes. Stick a shotgun in an intruder's face, their demeanor changes. Flash some money in naysayers face, they start saying YEA! Politicians, Leaders, Men and Women all seem to flap in the wind these day, where ever the winds of change blow.
Now in our story the hungry will soon be motivated to go hunting. How long until they make it far enough out for them to cause a problem with Mike and his family.

Great story. Really enjoying it. Fast paced and no slow spots so far. That makes for good reading. I do however think that Mike going public is a very bad move. Nothing good can come of it. Now he will become a target along with Daisy and the baby. Oh and by the way. Most babies have a name when they are born. Maybe the babies name should be Terence. Looking forward to MOAR !! COB

The 2 women approached Mike and said they would like to talk to him about the store. Mike said to see the store manager, they said they had already tried to talk with the manager but didn't get any answers. Mike said to come to the store office in 15 minutes and he would talk with them.
In exactly 15 minutes Mike heard a knock on the office door and he said to enter. The 2 women came in and it seems that another one of their shirt buttons had come undone. Then they noticed Mike was not alone. He said let me introduce my wife Daisy and our baby Terence, they will be sitting in on our meeting. The 2 women reached up to button a few of their shirt buttons. Mike also said that before they got started, he must tell them that this meeting was being recorded with video and audio because all company business was recorded, now what could he do for them. The 2 women looked at each other, and turned around and walked out. Mike and Daisy exchanged glances and then she broke out laughing.
Mike put out word that there were going to be voluntary classes on gun usage and tactical training. The guns were loaned from the gun store and would be FALs and AR15s, ammo would be provided. For the 1st class there were 15 people selected and would run a week long. Other classes would follow until all people were trained that wanted to be trained. All store employees went through a basic first aid course,
After 2 weeks it was announced on the FM radio that FEMA people would be in each area to help people with the food shortages, providing food for the needy. One of the FEMA people was supposedly headed for their area. Mike never saw the person. He heard that the people in the area considered FEMA lower than a Revenuer and there were many stories throughout history talking about what happened to them when they went into the Appalachians looking for moonshiners.
The next week one of the truck drivers delivering a load said several people had tried to stop his truck but he was able to push through the small roadblock that was set up. The driver didn't know how long the roads would remain open for more deliveries.
A day after, 2 men tried to rob the food store. They drove into town in a pickup truck, parked in front of the store, went inside and grabbed 2 shopping carts. 1 cart they filled with meat and the other cart with canned goods. They didn't even try to pay for the food, just started pushing the carts out the door. The cashier yelled for them to stop, the 2 men yelled several obscenities and turned to continue pushing the carts only to find an old man in front of them. They started to laugh but then saw the pump shotgun in the old hillbilly's hands. He squinted at them and spit a load of tobacco juice out the side of his mouth. The 2 men quickly raised their hands.
The wannabe robbers were turned over to the nearest sheriff. It was reported back to the people that the sheriff turned them loose because they couldn't afford to keep and house them. That there were more important matters to take care of, like all the murders taking place over food.
There were so many people wanting the gun and tactical classes now after hearing it from the sheriff about how bad it was in the cities and the attempted truck hijacking and the attempted store robbery. Mike selected some of the best students from the classes to help teach. It took 4 weeks but they had all men and women above 14 years of age run through the gun and tactical classes plus everyone having first aid classes. That was almost the whole 400 people that lived in the 10 mile area.

"Well, we were taking those two to the county line to release them. When I stopped because of a deer in the road about half way up Buzzard Holler, they got out and went into the woods toward the ravine. That was the last I saw of them even though I fired a couple of warning shots trying to get them stopped before they got hurt."

That Sunday church services were held because the traveling preacher had showed up, keeping to his rotating schedule. After service Mike was talking with him. The preacher was telling him about what he was seeing on his travels. How things were bad and the FEMA people were kind of running roughshod. Mike tried to talk the preacher into staying but he said he had to be doing God's work of spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ. Mike told the preacher he always had a place here when he wanted it. Mike loaded the preacher up on freeze dried foods for his trip.
Early Monday morning Mike called a meeting for everyone. He explained what the preacher had said about the bad conditions on his travels and that Mike was forming a quick reaction team that would respond in minutes to any problems in their area. They would be issued FALs or AR 15s along with 10 magazines. They would have radios to call for backup if needed. The team consisted of 10 people and 1 medic. The 10 could also divide in 2 groups of 5 to create 2 squads to come in from 2 directions.
It had been a quiet 2 weeks since forming the reaction team. There had been no more truck deliveries and the FM radio was only talking about how great the FEMA response was for the people. Mike had heard that another FEMA person had been sent to their area since the last one had never arrived. This time it was a woman but after a few days, she never arrived either. Mike figured that the local people were not sexist and had given the woman the same welcome that had been given to the man from FEMA.
Soon everyone noticed a lot of drones flying all over the sky. FEMA announced on the FM radio that the drones were for the people's protection. After 3-4 days of drones, Mike noticed that the drones were no longer flying over their area. It turns out that there were several local teenagers that had some type of microwave ray system made up. They had used parts from commercial grade microwave ovens and made a weapon that would shoot a microwave burst that would interrupt the drones instructions and the drone would crash. Imagine that, a geek hillbilly. After all, aren't hillbillies supposed to be dumb.
The peace and quiet wasn't to last long. One mid morning the town was disturbed by several pickup trucks roaring up to the food store. Why do pickup trucks always have loud exhausts. 6 guys jumped out of the 3 pickups and and ran into the store. The employees ran out the back door and the call went out for the reaction team stationed at the gun store. The reaction team made it to the store before the robbers could fill 1 shopping cart.
The team split in 2 groups, Team A went in the back door and Team B waited out front. Team A spread out as they went in the door with their FALs up and ready as they had trained. One robber spotted them and started raising his pistol. An FAL boomed and 1 robber down from a 150gr soft point bullet to the chest. Another robber tried bringing his shotgun up and got off a wild shot before 2 FALs boomed again and the robber is down with 2 holes in his chest leaking blood all over the floor. The robbers were heading to the front door for a getaway when they met Team B out front waiting. The remaining 4 robbers froze and were told to drop their weapons. They did and were standing there as Mike showed up. Mike recognized 2 of them as being the 2 robbers from before. The robbers spat out some obscenities and then said get them to the sheriff so they could get turned loose again. Mike said that wasn't going to happen again. Mike said that the 2 missing FEMA people were in need of company to share their resting spot, take these 4 to them. Several guys gave a slight nod in understanding and led the robbers away as several of the local people got started in removing the bodies and cleaning up the store.

Post by iamnobody on Mar 4, 2021 10:11:36 GMT -6
A week later things were quiet but people were being more observant. Also Mike noticed that a lot of people were now openly carrying guns. 10 days after the attempted robbery, the sheriff and his deputy came to the small town and were asking questions. Mike asked them if he could be of assistance. The sheriff said 6 guys had been headed this way and now they were missing. That they were upstanding citizens and their families were worried about them. Mike said maybe they went hunting, the sheriff said he suspected foul play. The sheriff puffed up his chest and pushed himself into Mike's face as he said he thought Mike had something to do with their disappearance. The deputy was putting on his own puffed up display of being big and bad.
Mike laughed and said the sheriff had bad breath and should lose a few pounds of his pudgy waistline. That Mike was going to sic his lawyers on the sheriff for harassment. It was still in the sheriff's mind to fear lawsuits so him and the deputy left and it wasn't til they were almost back at the office before the sheriff realized that the courts weren't working now and there wouldn't be any lawsuit.
After the sheriff left Mike started issuing new orders. He wanted crews filling sandbags and stacking them in the front and back entrances of the stores. He wanted sandbagged guard posts at the 2 entrances to their little town. He placed LP/OP positions several miles outside of town for advance warning and some roving patrols to the sides of town. Several guys were good with assorted radios, so a radio watch was maintained. On top of each store was a sandbagged position with 2 people, 1 with a precision rifle, the other with a semi auto rifle. All store employees were required to wear a handgun with long guns in a nearby spot. All other people were requested to carry guns full time.
