A prudent person foresees danger and takes precautions. The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences. Proverbs 27:12 New Living Translation

Wasn't the Bible that got me into prepping, but the aftermath of two hurricanes: Andrew and Katrina. Dad, his 2nd wife, youngest brother and his family lived in Homestead when Andrew cleaned that towns clock. A lot of the stick house where Dad lived would/should of survived, but the retirees that had been living around him either moved or died, with new owners taking over. Our home was of cinder block with a tar & gravel roof, just like every home at the time it was built around 1960-1961. But new owners decided their roofs looked ugly, so replaced them with shingles which got broken off and sucked up by Andrew, then bye bye home. About 2 hours after Andrew was gone/over, Dad drove around town video taping the damage with his VHS video camera. A block or three away, there used to be some guy who farmed strawberries, corn, just depending what time of year it was, so we supplemented our food from there from time to time. Land was sold and of course, let's put a gazillion mobilehomes there. NONE survived. Army National Guard didn't show up for about three-four days and suddenly a bunch of people started showing up looking for "friends of theirs". Yeah, wanna be looters. So Dad and the other men on his block started doing armed patrols and we're talking many of them being WW 2 vets. If you couldn't give the names of the people you were looking for, you got turned away.
Then of course, many may know of the stories that came out of Katrina and later on, Sandy. Started kind of, sort of prepping after Andrew, but when Katrina did her thing, I started getting into it, but after Sandy, it was get out of my way because I was prepping for 8 people who didn't believe in prepping or had the attitude of "the gubbermint will take care of us" or that will never happen here. This is why when spring comes around and Dollar Tree trots out its seeds for fruits and veggies, good by $50.
Then comes Convis-19 with the great toilet paper, etc. shortage earlier this year. Guess people refuse to pull their heads from their behinds because in the last month, seeing where people are buying that same bleep again?! Though now, some are stocking up on canned goods. Younger brother and aunt kind of panicked when they realized tp, paper towels and hand sanitizer was in short supply. I helped them on the first two items, but the sanitizer I use as a fire starter. I also used liquified petroleum jelly that I dip cotton balls and those make up pads in. And if the fire dept. ever checked my place out, they'd think I was a wanna be pyromaniac because I've got large & small wood matches, regular match book matches, Bic type lighters and a couple of magnifying glasses. They probably don't know what ferro rods are though.
I read the other day that 1 in 22 people are suppose to have the virus now. Don't know if that's true or not. With the left doing their "peaceful demonstrations" and pew pew Joe going to be taking over, guns are flying off the shelves and a serious short supply of ammo is now common. I figure the supply of ammo isn't going to catch up until at least February, maybe April of next year?
Since retiring, not prepping like I was as my income has gone WAY down. Think the oldest canned stuff I've eaten was 7 years AFTER the expiration date and it all tasted/cooked just fine. As to mustard/ketchup, only the color of the ketchup changed to a darker red. And I'll be buying 2 portable generators once Dads estate is settled, along with that motorhome I've talked about elsewhere.

I did see one more thing back in stock this week - Walgreens has quart bottles of 91% rubbing alcohol for $1.97, although there were empty spaces on either side of those 5 bottles.

I buy a lot of different things from Dollar Tree. Everything they used to have in stock and didn't for awhile, is now back in stock, though I can't recall their rubbing alcohol size. I'll buy canned goods from them, band and unknown brand names, but NOTHING from China. One thing I do like is those packets of Velveeta cheese. Microwave a hotdog for 30 seconds, put it on a bun with some Velveeta cheese for another 30 seconds, top off with a bunch of fresh, chopped up onions and it's just the hotdogs I ate at more than one truck stop. As to younger brother next door, I'm surprised he's even still alive considering some of the crap he's bought/eaten from Dollar Tree. I consider those 3 small packs of Jiffy peanut butter per box a good deal. When I was in the Frisco VA for my heart and veins, walked/took the city bus to a nearby Dollar Tree and loaded up on them, along with puddings....chocolate & Jello. The place was always short on snacks and many guys didn't have money or the ability to leave on their own like I did. Kept a couple of the peanut butter boxes and the one box of crackers I bought for me...everything else was given to the nurses to pass out to those asking for a snack.
