I take advantage of the freebies our County offers and one of those is the weekly email on what's happening in the County. That can be anything from a free concert to info about law enforcement. I found this week's email especially interesting because the CCW applications are at 100 per day and they are now doing applications only by appointment to keep from having long lines and to be able to track who was there when, if there is a Covid-19 infection.
The other bit of interest is that a CCW holder whose permit expired after February of 2020 can renew by mail - just fill out the renewal form, sign it in front of a Notary, include a copy of your photo ID and the reduced fee.
I'd say that's a much higher demand than in the past, as there was no one else at that counter the last time I picked up an application (maybe 2-3 years ago).

Due to pew pew Joe's previous statements about "common sense" gun laws, gun purchases have broken new records since Sept. 2020. And of course, everyone scrambling to find ammo. The other day, read an article explaining why this was happening: it's all obviously due to the fear mongering put out by the gun manufacturer's, NRA and Trump. Thing is, the people are nervous the way things have been going with the left being permitted to do their thing and now, people are starting to stock up on basic food items and yes, once again, it's toilet paper, etc. Remember when Obummer was coming in office and the same thing happened? Weren't gun buyers then being called racists? Brother is going for the virus shot as soon as it becomes available. Not me......I don't trust anyone/company who comes up with a cure for the virus in a year. Read a few days ago that three people in Anchorage, Alaska had reactions to this shot and had to be treated immediately for it, including getting some other kind of shot for their reactions. This isn't the article I read, but here's one. And the cure is suppose to be a 2 parter. Now read the cure price varies from company to company as in $2+ a shot, to $22+ a shot in Belgium. abcnews.go.com/Health/wireStory/latest-korea-reports-daily-high-mulls-steps-74753962And so much for taking care of our "front line hero's": www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/stanford-apologizes-for-coronavirus-vaccine-plan-that-left-out-many-front-line-doctors/ar-BB1c3jAX?ocid=BingNews

"Common sense" gun laws would follow what the city of Kennesaw, Georgia enacted some years ago, requiring the head of each household to own a firearm. There was a lot of hoorah about it in the media (no surprise there), but there was also a statistically significant drop in burglaries and home invasions in Kennesaw in the year following that new law (something which got almost no media attention).
Seems that the bad guys do occasionally hear the news and a number of them moved to less dangerous stomping grounds. Perhaps the threat of immediate retribution makes for a safer community? Maybe a corollary of "An armed society is a polite society"?
I still think the proper testing for a mass distribution vaccine should take the traditional two years and while I'm not likely to be considered in an early receiver population, I still wouildn't want to get the vaccine before the end of next summer. Let others be the first 2 or 3 million guinea pigs.
We may tire of beans and rice but those can go a long way, they're cheaper than Mountain House (if not as flavorful) and they keep well in aluminized mylar bags with an oxygen absorber. 25lbs of dry rice is about 75 cups cooked rice and a serving of cooked rice is 1/2 cup so 150 servings in a 25lb bag. Just need soy sauce or some powdered milk and/or some spices - we also keep a supply of those. A pound of dry beans is about 6 cups cooked beans and that's about 10-12 servings (depending on the type of beans). 25lbs of beans would give 250+ servings. Add cornmeal, powdered milk, shortening of some type and you can have beans + rice + cornbread which could be considered a decently balanced diet in SHTF circumstances - and a year's worth of food for two will fit in a small closet.
I packaged up 25lbs of sugar (a year+ suppply) in aluminized mylar bags last week as I do every year. Also did my once a year TP buy. 96 rolls this time as that was what was available in bulk instead of the usual 64 rolls - but I won't argue with a good deal ;-)
