She had an idea that wouldn't wait earlier today and I got three chapters and about 3000 words before she ran out of steam. Just have to see if this one progresses. It wouldn't be the first time she got off to a good start and then stopped.

Well, one of my muses is back and providing inspiration well after midnight. Added 1200 words to a far-from-complete story but that's 1200 words it didn't have yesterday. Something in the Musian physiology makes them more susceptible to new human flu strains so they're both considered "high risk" which isn't the case for your typical under-20 person. I'm certain that's affected their ability to provide inspiration these past few weeks :-( I'm very appreciative that they're still trying and occasionally producing more story.
We do need to resupply the Nutella as there's only 1/4 of a jar left. Maybe after I get the string trimmer work done tomorrow (make that later today) and then have a shower to get the green bits off me?
Better check the Fudgsicles too, I guess ;-)

Nutella and Fudgesicles, huh? Ain't that kinda like huntin' over bait?

Nah, not huntin'. My muses are dedicated to their task but are somewhat easily sidetracked. Chocolate is one of their favorite "food groups" ;-) More details in the next book. It'll be some shorter stories that have been posted here plus the title story, "Care and Feeding of a Fiction Writer's Muse". Maybe next month?

At least one muse was back for a bit - I got about 1000 words a little after midnight and another 400 words on that same story so far today. Still not far enough along to start posting but at least it's progress. Under the circumstances, I'll take whatever inspiration my muse(s) can offer.
Maybe I'l have another story - someday?

Still just getting bits and pieces from my muses - 900 words a few days ago, about 60 words yesterday plus an idea for another thing or two that can be repurposed. I think the story of writing the next story is becoming its own "War and Peace"-length story :-(

300 more words today, but it's an idea you've probably never heard proposed. At least one of my muses is still having fun with this story ;-)

Another 300 words today - so progress if VERY slow. Just as well I'm not posting this as it's written or there'd be more "MOAR" posts than story posts in the thread ;-)

If food is mentioned in your TEOTWAWKI communications, your key phrase could be: "The kids said we should have tacos Friday."

Got a little over 200 words on one of the stories today (three stories in progress on the laptop but none ready for primetime) - and then the better half asked if we had any OTC meds for a minor burn, something accidentally self-inflicted with a curling iron. Got her squared away but lost my train of thought - my muse connection is very fragile some days and it doesn't take much to lose it - especially annoying when I was on a roll with the next chapter :-( Maybe things will be better tomorrow. I would go use one of the study rooms at the County Library branch but they're not open - maybe in a couple of weeks?

Got 1000 words on a story today ;-) That's like having a muse back to normal. No, it's not the story I was working on yesterday :-( Will it last? No way to tell but I will enjoy writing until it disappears again.

Got about 500 words from my muse(s) this past week. I have three stories/books in progress and none of them are moving well. Perhaps I'll have something to post next month or the month after - and perhaps not...

Added about 1500 words to the least developed story today. Not sure if I should call it a short story and stop where it is or continue on with what might be a very long tale. If nothing more for a while - wouldn't be the first time a muse deserted me - I might just wrap it where it is. We'll see what develops.

One or both muses are back in action - but she's/they're working on a new story. However, they've given me 6500 words in 24 hours (yes, my hands hurt from all that typing) and we're not through the first day. Maybe, just maybe, this time they'll complete the story before moving on to something else...
Keep your fingers crossed.
For those following the saga of the riding mowers, the new one got its first workout yesterday in the almost knee high grass (every-other-day rain and the snafus at the home center mean it's been a LONG time since the grass we do mow has been mowed). However, the new mower worked just fine. I had to find the blade height that cleared the above-ground roots of the maple tree but that's a setting I can use for the entire area that I mow. Gasoline usage seems comparable to the old mower - a new mower with slighter bigger engine but new and tight transmission should do at least as well as the old mower with a slightly smaller engine but a worn transmission. The tank on the new mower is twice the size of the old one but I measured with the gas can I use to gas up the mower so I know it started with about the same amount as I put in the old mower's tank. And it started the first try ;-)
Had a guy from a tree service stop and ask if we wanted the dying maple cut down and he gave what seems to be a good price. Need to get a couple more estimates and then have 3 or 4 trees taken down and a bunch trimmed so they can't drop a limb on the house. One of the downsides of having trees close enough to provide shade...

We burned lots of maple in the fireplace when I was a kid. Good stuff. Now it's mostly oak and madrone. We do have a nice, just-dead sugar pine dropped down along the driveway. Have a couple of neighbors in less than optimal health that can use wood so I may give it to them. Good to know that the new mower works just like a new mower.

Well, the girls are working again but the 2000 words this week was across different stories - part story and part notes about future directions. Good that we have words but it would be nice if they'd finish one of the stories. At least I can put "DONE" by the notes whose ideas have been included in their associated story.
On the brighter side, one story is up to 22 chapters and another is at 10, so lots of reading when (IF?) they're finished. The story that's been stuck at Chapter 7 for a couple of months probably won't ever see the light of day (and I liked the premise - oh, well)... I won't be putting up chapters when I have no idea when (IF?) the next chapter might be available.

Got started on a new story today (that makes FOUR in progress) and completed one chapter. If all that inspiration had been in one story, I'd have almost 40 chapters and be ready to post now :-(
Let's hope that whichever muse is providing inspiration is committed for the long term.
I'll not start posting until I'm sure there's a complete story in there somewhere...
Meanwhile, I'm also polishing Book 2 of "Jack's War" for publication. As long as it is (300K+ words), that might be books 2-5 because a single book with enough pages for that many words will be intimidating. Once the editing is done, the actual making of multiple books isn't too bad as I'll just be repeating the cover with the new number and maybe a subtitle. Not soon - it takes a lot of hours to read and edit 300K words.
I'm up very late - Or is that early? Clock has 4:22 and I've not been to bed :-( but I've added another chapter and the story is at 3000 words ;-)
I guess that evens things out...

One or both muses are contributing to story number four as it's been growing over the past week and is now at Chapter 9 - thanks to 3700 words today Sep 4/5. Now to get my second meal of the day and then see if I can get the pain in my hands down to a level I can sleep with...
Having that three letter disease of OLD is not for the faint of heart.

After a few very good days, my muses are again almost silent - a total of maybe 400 words the past four days. Maybe they were upset by Hurricane Sally? I don't have any other explanation unless they were disappointed to see the working title on more than one published story/book?
I've come up with couple of alternate titles so perhaps in the future they'll be more verbose - 16 chapters is far from telling the complete story...

Up to Chapter 17, padded with a funny event that did occur - nice to get 500 useful words out of an annoyance ;-)

Had a positive writing event in writing today. Sat down to do yet another proofread of an in-progress story nad lost more than an hour of clock time - but gained 700 words in the story, including a proposal of marriage and revealing a bit of that couiple's history.
I'm working from an outline but it doesn't have that level of detail so at least one of my muses was at work at 4AM today. That makes 17 chapters completed but the on-again-off-again level of muse support doesn't make that far enough along to start posting, as I've had the muses go totally silent at chapter 22 of what should have been a much longer story. Maybe in another month or so?
