Don't know how other states are dealing with, but in Nevada it just got REAL serious. Casino's, restaurants, bars and other public places are now being ordered closed by order of the governor. Though hotels have up to 30 days to get their guests out. Only restaurants offering taking out can stay open, fast food places drive thru only. Last week brother went to WinCo, a supermarket chain in the west. Line to get in was several HUNDRED feet long. Seems the fire dept. was out there and stated building occupancy was exceeded, hence the policy of a person could only enter when a customer left the store. So if mom was there with her 2 kids, they had to wait until 3 people left the store. Needed to run around paying off bills, so stopped by WinCo and line was maybe 40 feet long, taking 15 minutes or so. The shelving for toilet paper/towels is about 100, maybe more feet long and shelving is about 4.5 feet high....and TOTALLY empty! As for meat, about 85% of the coolers was empty. Checking out the various isles to see how things were and there were a lot of either empty shelves or very little on some of them. Told they're getting a truck load in per day. Dollar Tree got wiped out on toilet paper, etc., along with all bread, spaghetti, sauces, etc. Scolari's (Nevada supermarket chain) got really hit with a lot of empty shelves including flour, sugar and the cooler where meat, cheese, etc. is for making sandwiches. Wells Fargo bank is closed to its customers...you have to use the ATM or drive thru teller. Now, after all that, what if this virus mutates and becomes a real killer? Maybe just dead people or maybe zombies? And if just dead dead, how do you dispose of hundreds of thousands of corpses? Yeah, mass graves but what if the people who have this job say screw it, I'm gettin out of Dodge with my family while I/we can? As for zombies, I'd prefer the original ones....you know, the slow moving ones. Head shots or bashing them in the head kills them. But then there's the fast running sob's. Then for fun and games, let's add hackers to the equation. Remember when the food stamp program got hacked into a few years ago? How about it happening again? Also, don't forget mother nature. Already trucks have been stuck on the west side of Donner due to several snow storms which have closed off the freeway. Another reason food isn't getting into town like it should. Oh yeah...at Scolari's was told by a clerk they were to have gotten a truck load last week.....they never got it, nor any explanation why. So there you have it....a WORLD WIDE pandemic with thousands and thousands of people dying across the U.S. EVERY day. Panic buying, then NO food stamps accepted. Then maybe a snow storm. Mass graves being dug out of time with garbage trucks driving around you neighborhood calling out bring out your dead, bring out your dead. Then of course, if the dead come back as zombies, little food on the supermarket shelves AND a snowstorm..... Come to think of it, showing zombies trying to chase someone while on an icy street/sidewalk and falling on their a$$es..... And nope, ain't going to write such a story, though I may start putting down a lot of notes so I don't have to remember all sorts of bad stuff that can happen. And some appropriate music from The Stand: www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQXqZ8JJktw

As long as we get semi-normal rain, we're good for a while. We may not have some foods we WANT but we'll stay fed (beans & rice don't need much storage space). I buy toilet paper (48 pack of Marathon individually wrapped, 2 ply, 470 sheet rolls) every 6-7 months (most recently in February) from Costco's business site (available to any Costco member, but certain cleaning/disinfectant items are only delivered to business addresses).
At our location, an 8x10 tarp and a 55 gallon barrel can collect enough rain to provide daily water for 2 people on an on-going basis (there's a spreadsheet for that if you know your average monthly rainfall and your expected usage). Search noaa.gov for their 30 year rainfall data for your location - probably need MUCH bigger tarps and a LOT of barrels in Nevada.
A lot of SHTF stories seem to be coming to life, if only one paragraph at a time :-(

Actually, that part of the Silver State does pretty good as far as rain goes, although they've had a couple of dry years. He can probably tell us for sure, but IIRC, Lake Tahoe should be pretty close to full and the water pretty clear. Poor folks who own the ski resorts around Truckee/Tahoe/Soda Springs are likely feelin' snake bit right about now. Hadn't been the best of seasons for skiin' and snowboarders, and now that there's been a nice storm or two, looks as though they'll have to close down. On the bright side, the snow'll send the bears back into hibernation, so when they come out again in spring they'll be hungry enough to eat lots of zombies. :^)

Well, just found this while checking the news. news.yahoo.com/reports-gop-senators-sold-off-031657218.htmlMore than one Senator sold their stock right after being briefed on the coronavirus threat. Which gives me another idea for another American Revolution story. Even more interesting is I've haven't seen any demonstrations by liberals/Mexican Americans how American should have open borders and it's everyones right to enter the U.S. legally or not. And nothing about how horrible the wall that's being built, shouldn't be. No more liberals crying out to take our guns/ammo. In a new article a few days ago, seems there's a sh*t load of people buying guns/ammo in one town/gun shop. As in 60-70 a week. Cabela's is still fully stocked with everything, but noticed VERY few cars from California on Wednesday. Usually there's at least several dozen. And what happened to the antifa with their rant how racist Trump is? Maybe they're huddled in mommy/daddy's basement while hiding in their safe place? And what about the homeless? Wonder how many might have the virus and how quickly it'll get spread. Haven't seen a word about what to do with them in Calif. and Oregon. Imagine the amount of trash they must be generating....and no govt. employees now being sent out to clean up that mess. And let's not forget the dirty needles, along with those publicly sh*tting & p*ssing in the streets or on the sidewalks. Going to take off in next day or so just to take photos of Scolari's, WinCo and Dollar Tree's empty shelves for my diary and also input for a couple of stories. Seems a lot of people are now watching The Stand tv mini series now, along with other virus/pandemic movies. As for bears eating people, something I hadn't thought of. But got a diorama in mind of showing several alligators eating not only zombies in some swampy water, but people who WERE trying to escape the zombies in a boat. Title would be Alligators: dead or alive, they still taste like chicken. And check out survivalistboards dark side...a BUNCH of coronavirus memes. Some are funnier than h*ll.

Hey, Will, just about an hour ago there was a 4.5 quake near Indian Wells. I'm on the other side of the Sierra and it shook my place enough to feel it. Lasted about 20 seconds here.

Didn't feel a thing from that quake. Been checking Youtube videos on the homeless & the virus. And what about rats....and I'm not talking about the 2 legged political kind. Seems TONS of garbage is still not only being generated by the homeless, but rats are now a MAJOR problem because the garbage isn't being picked up even like it used to be, which was sporadic. So Joe Homeless gets bit by a rat. He doesn't know he's got the virus AND after a bit, the city/he finds out the rat has rabies. Virus mutates in the rat, which bites others. Plausible story?

Don't forget to add in a meltdown at one of the CA nuke plants from absenteeism. Might as well have some light from the glow-in-the-dark zombies to read by ;-)

Thought I'd kick start the virus thing again, but adding the rioting/looting from the Floyd problem. Went to Cabela's a few weeks ago and it's open now, though there's a lady dong a head count. About 2 months ago it was closed except for the selling of guns & ammo. Made a cc payment, but could NOT buy any nightcrawlers?! Nor could any of the employees get me a couple of boxes AND they couldn't buy anything other than guns & ammo. Went back late last month and ammo is about gone?! But I did get some nightcrawlers and some fishing gear. Still got a lot of shotgun ammo and SOME handgun/rifle ammo. Kind of reminds me of the aftermath gun wise of the Katrina shooting. County range opened May 15th, but now there's about half the tables available due to social distancing requirements. Didn't have internet for a few weeks and didn't know about the curfew Reno had going on until nephews wife told me. Read more than one news articles where guns/ammo can't be kept in stock and limits on ammo. Working on updating my 30 day stay at home story, which is being called The Virus. Now I'm going to add the rioting/looting to it, along with the mass demonstrations everyone seems to want to do....WITHOUT masks on 99% of 'em. REALLY quick way to spread the virus now. Gas is $2.16 and WinCo's shelves are full. Haven't been to Walmart in at least a month as I stocked up on wings (3 family packs) from them and now, Scolari's stocking gizzards every Wednesday or Thursday and HAD six packages of them. Down to 2 now. Xbox 360 been down 2 months, so will hit Game Stop and hopefully be able to replace it with my 2 year warranty which I was told, the warranty has been extended. The one trip I made, was told no one's got any except at Meadowwood Mall which was closed at the time.
So, how's everyone else doing?

Not sure about the rest but I seem to be doin' great, and if I ain't don't tell me. Bein' dumb and happy has worked all these years so don't need nobody to burst my bubble. As for the ammo situation, could it be that maybe the employees are sellin' out the back door to friends? Are Kommifornia residents willin' to pay a cash premium to buy in the parkin' lot? Might Panti-fa be swoopin' it all up for either their own use, or to keep it from bein' available to the rest of us? Is there a shortage of tinfoil? I been gettin' all I can so I can make plenty of hats.

Naw, don't think any of the Cabela's are selling it out the back door. I think they've been hit hard by everyone whether it's people from Calf. or Nev. Forgot to check license plates since it was a week day during my last visit and there weren't that many vehicles in the lot. With the rioting going on, guns/ammo sales have gone thru the roof all over the U.S.

Still haven't heard any big news stories about Kommiefornia folks gettin' busted for bringin' "Nevada" ammo across the state line. My guess would be that anything like that would be a great propaganda tool for the fools it Sacto.

Just watched a Youtube video how Kommiefornia is seizing guns Youtube video's: This one's (2019) about mainly about ammo being sold in Reno" www.youtube.com/watch?v=1e1hrdUMYg0 Buying ammo in Kommiefornia and told to come back AFTER background check is done: www.youtube.com/watch?v=NJpNt6LCVx0I WAS trying to find another video from a guy who moved from kommiefornia to Vegas with him telling how guns and ammo are being seized with information provided when buying ammo there. But can't find it now of course.

Its pretty much what I've done now for my "Blue Plague" storyline. A virus turns deadly, but had a much longer incubation time than everyone realises, and then it has a 90% kill rate. Society collapses almost so quickly there's little anyone can do but attempt to rebuild.
The UK's population drops from 65 million to 6.5 within a month, with many homes still having the dead inside, either rotted away or mummified.
Of course, the thing I'm having fun with is NOT playing with population density issues. The virus almost seems random, with at least one city out there pretty much escaping unscathed, population near intact while elsewhere places have become grand necropolises, devoid of all but the birds and deer...

With 90% dead and no one clearing the dead, the vermin would likely be increasing daily from the available "food".

Anyone remember the movie or BBC series Day Of The Triffids? I've read the original book along with the sequel the family ok'd. As to the sequel, eehh, it was okay and takes place in NYC during the 1950's. A couple of year ago, outlined a plot where triffids were planted all over the U.S., making all the liberal, tree hugging environmentalists joyously happy. Triffids ended up not only being raised on large farm areas, but some people were growing a couple of 'em in their backyards and draining them of their "sap" to use in place of gas. It takes place in Calif. with the main character being from Reno AND either a truck driver passing thru Sacramento or retired truck driver who had taken some time off to fish the north fork of the Feather River, then hitting Marysville/Yuba City for the Feather & Yuba rivers for a bit. Decides to go home via Sacramento and by "amazing" co-incidence, there are actually TWO Hooter restaurants there. And yes, I've been to both while driving way back when. There's a power outage and the triffids get loose from farms and peoples back yards.
I don't know what the h*ll happened to my stay at home for 30 days story....all I can find is the first and last chapters of it here. Did I stick it onto someone else's thread? If I did, would someone let me know? If not, I'll delete the last chapter and start posting the other 8 parts/chapters. As it is, made a copy of it on my pc, combining all these parts/chapters into 3 LONG chapters and now working on what happens afterwards. I'll be calling it Coronavirus Mutation: Aftermath. It's now going to include all rioting/looting/protests that are still going on after the deaths of those 2 black guys and of course, since things are beginning to open up business wise, an increase of virus infected people. And screwed up posting the 30 day story on Kaifjon's Chatter website by not posting the last chapter there. Which I did earlier today. This is what happens when you have too many stories/ideas going on like working on another The Shadow story, Pinocchio Hollywood Gigolo, Snow White dwarven party animal, plus several more Affected stories.
So with all of this going on and me wanting to complete a story before posting any chapter, it may be awhile. Just want to make sure everyone gets their money worth.

will - I keep a log in notepad for each story I'm working on with a name such as "current-story-place.txt". It has the last time I worked on it, which chapter was posted most recently and when it was posted, etc. As long as I keep the log updated, I know when the most recent chapter was posted and can check for things posted on that date to see if the chapter went to the right place. Just another crutch that helps when I have too many story threads running around in my head ;-)
Example: edit place: chapter 17, 16 June 18:40 last post: chapter 15, 12 June 21:30
Takes maybe 15 seconds to update when I make changes or upload a chapter - if I had any chapters to upload...

Thanks papaof2....I use Apache which is a free word processing program recommended to me by my computer guy many years ago. Believe me I did NOT want to change from what Microsoft had given me on my original pc. TRYING to resist in not changing/adapting my mind to new things in general, like thumb drives. Remember when the 1st Iron Man movie came out? Bought a copy of it in the discount bin at Walmart to watch at home. Thought Pepper downloading that pc info on a thumb drive was actually so much Hollyweird bs! Once I found out that it wasn't, started transferring all my cd files onto thumb drives. As to those. a bit of tape with writing on what's on the thumb drive helps a lot. And later on, found out I get a better buy on them, plus larger storage capacity from Ebay. Got a lot of those SMALL thumb drives that are so small I can't put tape on 'em. Eventually I'll get all of them transferred to 1TB thumb drives which I'm slowly building a stockpile of.....kind of like my ammo stash. I also have THREE thumb drives that have my stories on them just in case 2 of 'em go tits up. Anyway, when I do my writing, Apache always shows me the last time I altered something or started writing a story, with some being up to 5 years ago. On a separate file, show what stories I've posted here and on Kaijafon's Chatter, USUALLY by chapter. Some how I didn't do this with the 30 day story for some reason. So if no one can tell me if I've posted the entire 30 day stay at home story here, in a couple of days will delete last entry, then add a couple over the next week or so till everyone gets the full story.
I also download a lot of info for possible story ideas, like the homeless in Calif./Oregon, homeless vets, rats in the bigger cities, etc. Now it's about the rioting/looting/pc thinking that's going on, along with Project Blue Book/flying saucers/abductions for a story I started a few years ago. And if anyone's wondering, it's only 1/2 page long with the MIB's/govt. people NOT being nice people.

With 90% dead and no one clearing the dead, the vermin would likely be increasing daily from the available "food". That's one of the things I'm going over in my updated version of the coronavirus story. Fortunately, I've never seen a rat here in Nevada. Mice and kangaroo mice, oh yeah. Thing I'm mulling over is dogs....screw you cats, you're on your own even if you're no longer being offered on some Oriental menu. Ever notice in zombie movies/tv series, there are NO animals with dogs or cats in 'em? Wait, let me take that back. Saw a British movie on Youtube about a plague and zombies which wasn't too bad, but being English, they some how never think of looking for zombie soldiers or places where they've been killed, but not zombified for weapons. Ol' Fido comes trotting up to some of them and one of the survivors got to see what happened to it. Not pleasant, not that it was shown, but Fido only got out maybe one or two yelps. And would animals turn into zombies? I know pigs are like people internal organs/blood wise to a degree...found that out while researching info on the Spanish Flu. And how about the swine and bird flu not long ago? As to the large number of dead, remember The Stand by Stephen King? And not talking about that tv series either. I can drive a dozer, along with semi-truck, so finding and driving a LAV-25 or Stryker can't be that hard. I mean, if a Marine or Army guy can drive 'em, it'll be no problem for this ex-wing wiper. Clear an area of bodies, dumping them in some large pit you've made with a dozer, (like the local park) make sure the places are cleaned of dead bodies and marked so you'll have LOTS of places to store food, ammo, meds, etc. in DIFFERENT places just in case something happens to your place.
