These stories take place along the Muskegon river each group will have its own ideas on what they need to survive the same apocalypse. the locations are for general reference and are not specific.
Story one. Part one: The stone cabin.
Alex Smyth pulled into the driveway of the stone cabin. He purchased the cabin and land for back taxes. It was early spring and planting time was coming soon. This year Alex wanted to expand his garden and can the excess thereof. He felt he had enough chickens and rabbits to keep him in meat in case the hunting and fishing were bad, not likely but you never know. He decided to grab a fishing pole and spend some time attempting to catch a few Bullhead tonight. He filled up a pressurized kerosene to see by and waited for dark.
The fishing was average that night but Alex stopped at two fish just enough for a meal or two. When he got back to the cabin he cleaned his two fish and put them into a salt brine to soak overnight. He turned on the radio for the news broadcast. The news was pretty much the same. This person was accused of that thing or another. Another celebrity was caught in some mess or another. It was not until a story came on about a fast moving new flu sweeping both coasts. He paused to listen.
“There is a new flu moving in from both coasts. The CDC denies this is any kind of attack. The President has been very quiet about the subject aside from telling us to believe the government reports. The CDC says not to worry, just treat it like any other flu.”
Alex had developed the attitude of not accepting the authorized version. He remembered how Covid had nearly destroyed the small businesses in the United States. This was one of the reasons he relocated to a rural area.
His phone rang he answered “This is the phone of Alex Smith” the voice replied “This is the voice of Big Lisa, I got canned from my job at the CDC and need a place to hide out. Got room for three girls?”
Alex had known Lisa since kindergarten and they remained lifelong friends so of course he said “Come on over and don’t spare the horses. I will put something on the grill to celebrate.” Lisa told him “See you the day after tomorrow. Look for the big box truck”
Story two part one, The Skoolie.
George and Ruth Watson had worked hard to afford and convert their diesel pusher school bus into their dream motorhome. Now it was nearly completed the last thing to be done was hang the new curtains that Ruth had sewn by hand. While she did this George began loading what Ruth called his end of the world supplies. The Skoolie and its trailer had enough room to store supplies for up to a year. There was enough solar power and wind power to keep batteries charged. The toilet was a composting model that eliminated the need for a black water tank. George hated being cold so he installed a custom built wood stove.
George and Ruth began loading their motorhome for its trial run. Just as they were finishing up their neighbor Linda stopped by. The three of them had been friends for years and they trusted each other. “Hey, did you hear about the new flu that looks more like a bio- attack?” ”and how did we come to that conclusion?” asked Ruth. “That’s the investigative part of investigative reporter and the part that got me canned” replied Linda.
George responded “I need to get my phone and make some calls.” Ruthe told him “Your phone is on your belt dear.” He replied, “Wrong phone love.” George stopped in the garage and took some things with him. Once in the bedroom of the house he opened a safe and removed what appeared to be an early 90’s cell phone and dialed 9. This did not link to the 911 system, no it was the secure number of an old friend at the agency.
The voice answered and George heard secure this line. He punched in the code and the line secured. Jack, what’s with this new flu?” Jack responded “Do you want the official version or the truth?” “Let's start with the truth.” George replied. Jack responded with a set of prearranged code words that told George all he needed to know.
George went back outside to share what he had learned “girls, I just talked to the office. It was an attack. “Ruth, let's load everything we planned for a long term bug out. Don’t forget the cat, we won’t die by playing fair with him. Linda, go get all of your rugged outdoor clothes including your arctic wear. I am going to get the enclosed trailer out of storage. Then I will prepare the house for a long term absence. I want to be gone before nosy Amy gets home from work.” George took the Suburban and went to get the trailer.
Ruth and Linda went to Linda's house and sorted out what she needed to take and what could be left behind. Linda asked, "Should I bring my firearms along?” Ruth told “Bring them and any ammunition you have. If you are short we will buy more on the road.” Next Linda got into the back of her closet and opened a hidden safe she took out several packets of cash and coin tubes. She told Ruth “You can never have enough cash or gold and silver on the road.”
Linda and Ruth loaded the last items into the motorhome just as George returned. George secured the house and they were on the road. George drove the motorhome while Ruth and Linda drove the Suburban pulling the trailer. Once on the highway George noticed a lot of military vehicles heading south. He wondered if they got out of the city just in time.
The Hot Tent Experiment.
Art pushed the flat bed cart around the local big box store of excessive quantities. That was his pet name for Sam’s and Costco. He thought to himself “I’ll bet people think I am some kind of Rambo Survivalist Loon.” He loaded up on things like socks and underwear as well as food. He ignored the offerings for shovels and rakes those he would get at the hardware store.
While checking out the young checkout woman asked him “Do you have a large family?” He decided to tell her the truth “No, I am doing an experiment on living long term in a tent in a remote location.” The young woman asked “Will you be out in cold weather?” “Oh yes.” Art replied. Well I hope you have a heavy duty hot tent” she said. “Wait, are you familiar with hot tents?” She giggled “Just what I watch on YouTube. I want to try it sometime but my parents flipped out at me when I mentioned it.”
He paid the rather large bill and prepared to make his last stop at the hardware store. He had a list of things he would need. On entering he was greeted by the owner Mister Hawks. "Hello Art, what brings you in today?” “I have a list of items for you today.” The owner looked over the list and asked “are you begging out over this new flu?” “New flu?” Art asked. “It’s been all over the news. This thing has affected both the east and west coasts. It’s moving our way no matter how we cut it and the CDC and Washington are telling us it’s no big deal. Even the media is siding with the government on this.”
He told the man. “Add all of the kerosene cans that you have and if you can please fill them up with the red kerosene. It burns just as well as the other stuff.” The owner was pleased to do so as this would be a banner sale day for the little store. Now that Art had a heads up he needed to stop to visit his last living family members. He pulled into the assisted living center and escorted to the apartment of his Aunt and Uncle.
“Art welcome, dear boy.” His uncle greeted him with a hug. His Aunt came out and hugged him as well saying “We have news for you but it must wait until our Attorney arrives so can explain things.” Art did not like where this was going one bit he felt his plans changing fast.
JD Wray, attorney at law, arrived and they all sat together at the table to listen. JD said “Art, you know your Aunt and Uncle are finishing their race. To that end they have placed the property located at Missaukee county into a trust for your use. This will protect you from undue and burdensome taxes upon their passing. You may visit, use and improve the property as you wish.” His Uncle added “We know what is coming and the property will provide you a place to retreat and be safe.”
His Aunt said “We have one favor to ask and that is take JD’s daughter and two granddaughters with you and keep them safe to the best of your ability. Can you do this?” Art had been like a son to them and he simply said yes, I want to bug out before 09:00 tomorrow.” JD said "they will be ready.”

Moar is here.
Story One Part Two The Stone Cabin. Lisa pulled the box truck into the driveway of the stone cabin. She was sure about what was coming. She hoped Alex would believe her, she had packed all the data that was available to her. What she didn’t know was Alex’s state of mind. Did he trust the media and the government or does he think for himself?
Alex greeted her and the girls at the door. “Hello, darling I see you have bought me a couple of cuddle kitties.” Both girls giggled and gave him a ‘pounce hug’ “Uncle Alex mommy says the world is going to end. Can we live with you?” Her sister Mary chimed in “Yeah can we.” Alex replied kindly “Let’s go inside and talk rationally about what is happening.” All three followed him into the cabin.
Alex told Lisa “Okay, you have the floor tell me what is going on.” “Well.” Lisa started “My team had been tracking what we thought was a simple flu outbreak, that is until we tracked its origin back to the very same lab that gave us the unspecified virus of unknown origin. At first we thought it was just another breach until it started showing up in countries where it shouldn’t have been showing up just yet.” “So how did it get there?” Asked Alex. “Do you remember the feel good, universal oneness program that China sponsored? It turns out that everywhere that tour went death followed.”
“So what do we do?” Alex asked. “We, my dear, load this place up with enough supplies and small livestock like chickens and rabbits to last us for as long as possible. After that we stay put as much as possible until this burns itself out.” Alex stated “We need to get it now while the getting is good. So, tomorrow we will go on a shopping spree all over the state but not here.”
“Yes, if the locals don’t know we have it it will be that much better for us security wise.” “Exactly, I will buy fuels and fire wood locally as that will not raise any eyebrows. I heat the cabin with wood and cook with kerosene. If we can get the idea across to them just what is happening it will engender a lot of goodwill that may save us a lot of hurt.”
That night Alex put together a pot of creamy chicken stew, homemade bread rolls and apple pie for dessert. Alex did not often get a chance to cook for others despite the fact that he enjoyed doing so. After dinner Alex dug out some of his security cameras. Went about placing them around the property and up and down the road. He did not doubt for a second things could and would get bad and he certainly did not trust the president or any politician to help or protect him and his. Alex knew for a fact that they were going to be on their own for an indefinite amount of time.
When he returned to the cabin Lisa had the news on. “Today, several people were arrested for spreading false news about a new flu. The director of the CDC continues to tell us not to worry that there have been no deaths directly caused by this unseasonal flu. These people will be tried by a ‘special court’ set up by president burden and his cabinet. All other matters will be handled by the normal legal process. A conviction for spreading fake news carries with it the death penalty.” Alex said “That tears it, tomorrow we go on a massive shopping spree.” Story Two Part Two the Skoolie.
The Skoolie functioned beyond George’s wildest dreams; the new engine promised better fuel economy and it ran smoother. Ruth and Linda followed in the Suburban with the trailer. George got a call from the office. “Hey, George it’s Mike, dump your civilian phones. The government is tracking anyone who may be a threat. You are on that list; this goes for Ruth as well. More later.”
George pulled into the Michigan Welcome center on Northbound US 27 and Ruth followed him in. He approached the two women and told them “Our phones are not safe and the three of us are on a government list, we need to dump them now.” Both women were used to this so they surrendered their phones. George got an idea when he saw an Electric Vehicle on fire. He walked over and made it look like he was checking for occupants and tossed the bag of phones in the fire. Once he was no one was inside he walked away.
There was no one else at the rest area and George offered a ride into town to the owner of the EV. the man replied "Thank you but my family is a few minutes behind me and I hear the fire trucks approaching.” The group stayed to give a report but the officer told them “This is just another EV fire. With what is happening in the world, let's pretend you were not here.” They loaded up and got back on the road.
It was near dark by the time they reached their destination of the Big Muskie Private Campground. George and Ruth owned a site here and this is where they would attempt to ride out the apocalypse. They were greeted at the by the caretaker Charlie.
“Hey, George, where did you get that thing?” George laughed, “Are you talking about my beautiful custom rig?” Charlie replied “When I see someone with a beautiful custom rig I won’t laugh.” Charlie proceeded to escort them to their site. Once they settled in Charlie told them “all kidding aside it is a nice rig and I see it’s apocalypse capable. Tomorrow morning we are having a meeting in the clubhouse to discuss current events. We sure could use your input.”
“We all have things to tell about the current troubles that will make Covid-19 seem like a case of the sniffles by comparison” Ruth said. After Charlie left George got down to diner, he took out some shrimp ravioli (not the stuff in a can) and placed it in a casserole dish with some mushrooms and tomato and basil sauce. Covering it with cheese he stuck it in the oven and a few minutes later dinner was done.
The three turned on the news and listened to the news. “As of now there is only one legitimate news agency, the Government Broadcasting Service, all other news is to be treated as false news and reported to the nearest federal agency. All television and radio programs must be pre approved.” George said government BS sounds about right.” Ruth and Linda nodded in agreement.
Story Three Part two The Hot Tent Experiment .
The next morning at way too early 6:00 am to most people. Art was finishing up some last minute things when a cab carrying a woman and two girls pulled up to the curb. The woman approached him and asked, "Are you Art?” He replied “Yes, I am.” the woman introduced herself “My name is Angela, these are my daughters Isa and Carmelita, my father JD sent us here.”
“Welcome, ladies.” Art said “If you can bring your luggage over we can finish loading and get underway before the neighbors wake up.” The children needed help with the larger bags but seemed eager to please their host. This pleased Art as his experience with little children was lacking a bit.
Once on the road Art asked “Did you three have anything for breakfast?” Angela said “No, we were too busy packing. Dad told us to pack as if we were never coming home again and that if we didn’t take it we wouldn't have it.” “Well responded Art “your dad is right about that. How about we stop and have a bite to eat.” “Sure if you know a place that is safe and not infected.” Angela replied.
Art was an experienced traveler and had a plan in place. Art had set his van and enclosed trailer up for long term travel. Art was an experienced traveler and had prepared for this eventuality (translation: he had eaten yet himself.) He had a small cooler with breakfast foods and a huge thermos of hot water for oatmeal and another filled with coffee.
Angela woke the girls and their first words were about them starving to death. Isa asked “where are we eating?” Carmelita was not fully awake yet. Art Told them “I packed breakfast.” Both girls were perplexed since their travel experience involved fast food as opposed to something a little healthier. Art told them “I have hot chocolate cereal and hard boiled eggs and some bacon. The girls were thrilled with the cereal and bacon, not so much the hard boiled eggs.
A couple hours later they arrived at the property. Art unlocked the gate and pulled through to the camp area. He noticed a lot of changes right away, a new bath house with solar panels. Attached to the bath house was a note. “Art, I know you were not expecting this but I made some upgrades at my expense, the bath house and more solar and batteries than you will be able to use. Also you should be getting chickens in the next few days, as well as feed and shed outfitted as a coop. The virus will soon be in Michigan so stay out of the cities.” It was signed by JD Wray.
After setting up camp Art walked around and saw two large farm tanks one of treated diesel and one of treated kerosene. JD and his aunt and uncle had really come through for them. Art knew he could keep them fed here between the woods and water. He did wonder what else they had done.

Story One Part Three. The Stone Cabin The group began their shopping trip in Clare at a large military surplus store. Alice the clerk greeted Alex “Hey luv, what brings you here today and who are those cute little things?” “I am Kathy.’” One said “I am Mary“ The other said. “Well, it’s nice to meet you both. Alice replied. "I need a dozen more security cameras and about four fifty five gallon open head steel drums with lids and bands.”
Alice called a helper to the front and gave him the order and told him to make it quick and make it right. The helper snapped right to it and left to assemble the order. While he was working on the order Alice and Lisa began talking about current affairs. Lisa asked Alex “Can Alice come stay with us?” Alex replied “Sure, we need another person or two.”
After the surplus store filled the order Alex and Lisa continued the shopping expedition. They were able to get a good number of supplies using cash. Some things had to be purchased with a credit card. Lisa called her bank and arranged for payment from one of her many sizable accounts. “I had no idea you were that rich.” “That is what happens when you have several medical patents. The money tends to stack up especially when you have simple tastes.” Alex was not poor by any standard but Lisa was something else.
Lisa turned on the radio just in time for the newscast. "Today, the government has announced that the entertainment industry has pledged that all new movies will meet the government standards for truth and accuracy in the portrayal of any government official. Any performer who does not comply will be asked to voluntarily leave the industry. Also in the news the reports of civil unrest have been classed as false news and the people making these claims will be duly punished under the presidential decree. Stay tuned for your local news and weather. Thank you for listening to the Government Broadcast Network.”
They finished their shopping and headed back home. It was Alex who said the obvious “It’s time to make ourselves scarce. We don’t need much, just the stuff we can get locally.” Once they got home they were surprised to see Alice giving instruction to a couple of men unloading a shed that had been turned into a chicken coop. Alice told Alex and Lisa “I managed to get enough chickens and feed for at least a couple years. These two are the Hanson brothers Mark and Franklin. They found us the chickens and built the coop from a stock shed. I’ve got them installing a heavy cyclone fence to keep predators out and chickens in. Later today they bring a couple of nanny goats for milk and a couple of Billie's for mating as they need freshening up. They will also build a shed to house them in.” Alice looked pleased with her work. Alex told her “Good job now we need a fuel supply of wood and treated kerosene, treated diesel and treated gasoline.” Alice told him “those will be delivered tomorrow morning early.” Alex asked “How did you get so much done?” Alice told him “I have been planning for some type of event. The last part of my plan was a place to go, the worst case involved me camping out on public property.” Alex told her “I am impressed and grateful but what about your store?” Alice told him “Just after you left the Feds shut me down.” Story Two Part Three. The Skoolie George checked the motorhome systems while everything was working he decided to switch to shore power while it was available. “No sense using my stuff when the grid still works.” He told Ruth and LInda. That evening the three of them sat beside the campfire, the girls roasted hotdogs while George roasted red hots. The sausage was a ballpark favorite in Michigan and George could eat six in one sitting. Ruth told him “If you eat more than two of those you will be sleeping outside tonight.” Once the fire died down they went to bed.
05:30 the next morning George got up and grabbed his bath kit and headed for the park showers. While the motorhome had its own shower he left that for the girls just to be nice. On the way back he met Charlie. “Hey, we're gonna have a breakfast buffet in the clubhouse. Gather up your two girls and come on over a little early. I could use some help setting up.” George said, “We’ll be there in a bit.”
The three of them ambled their way to the clubhouse. On arrival they heard the voice of trouble. “We can’t live full time in an RV and I don't care what people say. You people are traitors to the president. This is nothing but an unseasonal flu people are not dying ” A muscular woman had enough of her lip and slugged her hard right in the face. “Kelly I have had enough of you abusing your brother who is my husband who took you in after you spent all the money your parents left you. We are tired of your cry bullying, this is your last warning: shape up or ship out.”
Kelly started crying even louder “Charlie, are you going to let her talk to me like this? I am your sister.” Charlie had enough of her nonsense and told her “I am her husband. She is the one I sleep with, not you. We are heading for hard times and no one has the time or patience for you. So shape up or ship out. I am not giving you any more money.”
Kelly ran out of the clubhouse as if a bear were chasing her. Charlie watched her go into the little cabin he set up for her since she is too good to sleep in an RV. While he was doing that people continued to set up the buffet line. Charlie's daughter Katy came out of the kitchen and declared “The food is ready to go in the buffet server. C’mon you big strong men.”
Once everyone had finished eating Charlie called the meeting to order “Folks, the world is in a bad way and that puts us in a bad way unless we act. If you heard my sister’s unhinged rant this morning it was over some news from a contact I have in government. It seems our “new flu” is a biological attack not just against the US but against the whole world. Their universal oneness, world peace tour was sham to get the virus spread as far and fast as possible. Time is against us thanks to high speed travel. It is estimated that the virus will be coast to coast in a few days.”
People murmured but it was a young boy of twelve who asked “what do we do Mister Charlie?” That's a good question, we need to stock up on everything we think we might need: food, clothing, medicines. Let’s send buying parties out with cash before the stores close or are closed by the government.” Story Three Part Three The Hot Tent Experiment. The next morning it dawned clear and cool. There was no clue that a bio-attack had occurred. Art had planned to write a paper and do a video series on long term hot tent living. He found it funny that things came to this. Living in a tent in order to stay alive in the face of said biological attack and political leadership fighting over who will be in control. “Big fun this” Art thought to himself. He set a fresh fire in the outside cook area that he had designed and built himself. He had no desire to rule over anyone save himself.
He had learned to use a pressure canner to preserve food as a child. They taught him tricks that made his canning easier, safer and the end product better. He had enough canning supplies to put up a good deal of food and since he canned exclusively with reusable canning lids he was set for a long time.
He built a fire in the rock stove he and his uncle built years ago. It had a cast iron cooktop and a place for his twenty cup blue enamel coffee boiler. He started a breakfast of home canned bacon, oatmeal with home dried fruit and instant coffee or tea. While breakfast was cooking he turned on the radio hoping for some music. What he got was political messages and official government propaganda.
As breakfast finished cooking his charges came out with Isa and Carmelita declaring “We’re starving.” Art told them “grab a plate and a bowl we have bacon and oatmeal this morning. Your choices are take it or leave it. If you leave it you can eat it for lunch. Much to Arts surprise the girls liked oatmeal and preferred tea over hot chocolate.
While they were eating Angela asked “Can we support one more person here?” Art asked her “What do you mean?” “Well my friend Anna called, she is bugging out and has no place to bug out to. She has supplies and could be a big help to us.” Art thought for a moment and asked “Where is she now?” Angela told him “She was camped at Reedsburg Dam but the state kicked everyone out this morning. I think we should meet her on the road and lead her in instead of just giving our location on a phone that could be monitored.’
Art agreed and set a location for the meet. He unlocked a heavy duty three gun case and pulled out a 12 gauge shotgun and a .357 magnum. The shotgun alternated slugs and buckshot while the .357 had 158 grain semi wadcutter hollow points loaded to 950 feet per second. Angela asked “Do you really think we need to be armed?” Art said “Yes we don’t know who or what we will run into out there.” Angela went back into the tent and retrieved her own firearms.

Story One Part Four. Alex woke up to the scent of fresh brewed coffee and biscuits. He followed the scent to the cook area. There, Alice and Lisa were opening jars and putting together what to Alex's mind was breakfast feast. He was surprised to see Alice taking meat from a wide mouth canning jar. “What is that?” He asked. Alice replied “It’s bunny sausage, I canned it myself.” Alex said “I didn't know meat could be preserved that way.” “Oh yes, if it is standing still or moving slow enough to catch chances are it could be canned.” Alice told him.
“We have a chore for you later today. We need an outdoor wood fired cooking area. That will save our kerosene for winter and bad weather use.” Mary chimed in “And a pizza oven!” Kathy added “Outdoor pizza is yummy.” Alex told them “I like the idea but first we need to place the security cameras around the property. That is job number one.”
While they were enjoying a breakfast of eggs, sausage and cornbread Alex got an idea for the cook area. Instead of using concrete he would mix soil with wood ash and water to form a substitute. It would take a few days to get enough wood ash but it was doable. He also needed to gather enough large stones for the job.
For now, Alex gathered his cameras, tool belt and SKS rifle and left to place the cameras. He realized one mistake right away: he needed some type of ATV to get around the property. After getting the first few cameras up he went back to the cabin to talk to Alice and Lisa about fixing the problem.
“Girls I made one large mistake, we need an ATV or UTV for the property” Art stated. “Alice spoke up “I know where there might be an Argo eight wheeler with snow tracks for sale or trade.” Alex said “Get in touch with the owner and see what he wants for it.” Alice called the owner and the three came to an agreement. It was on the way back that they ran into trouble.
Alex and Alice were transporting the eight wheeler by trailer when they were pulled over. A deputy stepped out of the cruiser waving a shotgun and screaming at the top of his lungs. “I know you stole that ATV, Alice you have defied me for the last time now you are going to jail!” He seemed to ignore Alex, it was his undoing.
Alex fired a slug into the deputy’s vest knocking down. Alex told him “Don’t move or the next one goes into your skull.” while Alex watched the now whimpering deputy Alice called the Sheriff on the sheriff’s private line. “Hey Mickey, it’s Alice, one of your deputies just threatened my life and the life of my companion by waving a shotgun around and attempting a false arrest. If you want him back we are on county road 1227. Best if you hurry he’s still moving but I make no promises given what he tried to pull.”
Story Two Part Four. The Skoolie. George took the Suburban and the now empty trailer. He had a list of foods that could be stored for a long time. He loaded up on the standard prepper stuff like dry beans, rice and pasta. He even picked up a few cases of different flavored spam. He knew this would set Charlie off like a bomb since he hated spam but it was meat that would keep a while. He picked up some canning supplies as well.
Ruth and Linda stayed at the vacation property and inventoried stuff as it came in, and it came in by the carload. The people at the vacation property were all preppers to some extent but some were more prepper than others. One of the “more prepper” was a quiet unassuming young man named Marcus. He added a great deal of books and LTS foods to the community coffers. He told Ruth “I have more LTS foods and some other things coming. I need a couple of people to help me load up at the shipping depot.” Charlie told him “Take my two boys, they have strong backs from working the farm and the property. It will help blow the stink off of them.” Marcus checked with the depot and found his order had arrived and he could pick it up anytime. He gathered the two boys and they went on their errand.
George noticed something, people were not doing anything. He wondered “Are people really this ignorant or is the propaganda this effective?” He went to the checkout line and paid cash. The woman told him, “Under the new, Everyone's Fair Share Act. I must ask for a valid state ID .” George took it in stride and used one of his Agency covers. He made a mental note to share what he learned with the others once he was gone. One thing was certain, the government indoctrination was working all too well.
Once he was back he shared what he learned with the others. “Folks, under a new government edict called everyone's fair share, we must now provide ID for any large purchase of food. So, of course I didn't use my real ID. This will only work so many times until someone in power catches on so we better think of laying off the stores and start bartering with local farmers for what we need.”
It was Kelly that spoke up first “This all the fault of you Dirty Doomsday Rambo Survivalists. If you would have obeyed the president none of this would have happened!” She broke down in tears and sobbed. Maecus went up to her saying in a gentle voice “Kelly, none of this lands on anyone here. This was started by a country that hates us for being a free people. We are not government hating anarchists. Many of us fought to preserve the government. But this cannot stand. They betrayed us, not the other way around.” Kelly calmed down while Marcus held her. Charlie hoped his sister would come around.
That evening George and Charlie set the clubhouse up for games and movies. Charlie had a collection of old horror and science fiction films that most of the young people had never seen before. The games were provided by the residents. The girls made popcorn Ruth asked Charlie “How much popcorn do you have stored?” Charlie chuckled and told her “As much as we need because I grow it myself.”
Story Three part Four. The Hot Tent Experiment. Art and the girls arrived early at the meeting place. Since Art did not know Anna he took Isa and Carmelita to a safe distance and they hunkered down. Art watched the area in the scope of his rifle. A truck and trailer showed up and a young woman stepped out and embraced Angela.
Angela called them down as Art got close and he recognized her. “Hey, you're the girl from the bulk store. We talked about hot tent camping.” Her face lit up “Yeah, I should have known when Angela told me there was a place here for me.” while the three got acquainted the news came on. “Today the president has announced a plan to make sure goods are distributed equally. It is called the Everyone's Fair Share Act. you will need to show a valid ID. all purchases will be recorded. Anyone trying to hoard supplies will be prosecuted. The sentence will range from hard labor to summary execution.”
Art recommended they return to base and hunker down. “We need to fortify and close off the property. This is only the beginning, I believe the new not flu is affecting the shipping industry.” Anna asked “Is it really that bad?” “Yes.” Art replied “I have been tracking container ships, truck and rail traffic. All were down a great deal.” 'That means the Everyone's Fair Share Act. is just soothing syrup applied to pneumonia,’ said Angela.
Once back at the property Art noticed the gate was open. He told the girls “Let me check the cameras.” The cameras showed a three axle fifth wheel sitting behind a Isuzu cabover truck. He waited until a man stepped out. It was JD and he had a woman in tow. He showed the tablet to Angela and she turned red “That’s my dad and his new girlfriend. I didn’t expect to see them here.”
Alex approached the camp and aske “What brings you two up here?” JD being JD replied “The fact that we were run out of town by the Everyone's Fair Share Act. AKA the lack of everything because shipping is winding down as truckers and railroad people are dying off. We were hoping we could perch here.” Art responded “Sure, we could use the help.”
Art helped JD set up the trailer. JD had converted the cargo trailer into a year round mobile palace. He left enough room in the back for his quad. Art asked him “How will we get more fuel?” JD told him “I have a lodge brother bringing us 1,100 gallons of treated fuel in two farm tanks.” Alex knew that JD was a member of a Fraternal Lodge but did not know he was that tight with them. He was kind of glad he was tight with the Lodge.
JD introduced Cynthia to the others. Isa and Carmelita asked “Can we call you grandma?” Cynthia told them “Of course you can!” This made the girls happy and they had the attention of Poochie JD’s Great Dane dog. He was content to get head scratches and ear rubs from the girls.

Strike 1 for Kelly
Strike 2 for Kelly
In my book, there would be no 3rd strike for her, this ain't a baseball game.
Sadly - Yes and Yes. I saw this behaviour many times over the last few years of the non elected people making mandates and the sheeple trying to outdo each other in being compliant to tyranny.

Story One Part Five. the Stone Cabin Sheriff Michelle “Mickey” Flynn arrived in angry battle mode. “Just what kind of crap did you pull this time Simms? The deputy arrogantly replied “I was exercising my privilege as a member of the ruling class. They had something I wanted and would not surrender it.” The Sheriff listened as he pontificated about his genetic and social superiority. “Okay, you are done as a law enforcement officer. I am taking your badge and weapons. Since the county does not have the ability to feed and house you as a prisoner you are banished, don't let me see your face in my jurisdiction again.
Once his restraints were removed Gorlan Simms screamed “You inferior slitch, I am going to have my way….” Simms got his hands around the Sheriff’s throat and began to squeeze. Alex put the butt of his shotgun into Simms temple ending the threat permanently as his head caved in. Alex cleared his weapons and prepared to be taken into custody. Sheriff Flynn told him “Stand down, this guy has been nothing but trouble from day one. He came from a large department with glowing recommendations. I think it was a plan to get rid of him. This whole thing will be written up as self defense.”
The Sheriff followed Alex and Alice back to the cabin that was slowly becoming home to get their statements. She was amazed at what they had done with the place. Once their statements were done Mickey, as she preferred to be called, told them “I have some news to share and it is not pleasant. The plague has reached Michigan. All of the major cities are locked down and even our elite politicians are not immune. We are on our own for the foreseeable future. Is there anything you need?”
Alex said “We need fuel and lubricants for our vehicles and I want to increase our garden to one acre at least. We could use some chickens for meat and eggs.” Mickey smiled and said “I have an idea, if you don’t mind another woman around the place I can get all of that then some. I am dividing my deputies up into teams to cover the county using the least amount of resources. The supplies you need I have at my farm and am willing to share. How about it?”
Before Alex could speak Lisa and Alice said “YES!” in unison. Alex feared that his authority on his own property was becoming rather limited. “Okay, how soon do you want to move out here?” He asked. “I will start today, do I need to bring my own bed and can I bring my cats?” This time it was Mary and Kathy who asked “Are your kitties friendly?” “Yes girls, they are friendly. In fact, part of your job will be to take care of them.”
Alex need not have worried about his authority after Lisa talked to him. “Alex, do you remember when we were in school and the girls all cried on your shoulder. Do you know why we did that?” Alex said “I have no idea.” “because you made us all feel safe and cared about. While all the other boys were trying to bed us you cared and listened. That is why Alice and Mickey and I love you. You radiate compassion beyond the simple animal instincts of mating.” Alex had never considered that before.
Story Two Part Five. The Skoolie. Marcus needed more information if he was going to help Kelly work past her issues so he decided to get some background from Charlie. “She wasn’t always like this. It all started with her useless drunkard husband beating her every time he got hold of liquor. One day he beat her so hard that her skull split open. It left poor Kelly with some serious brain damage, the doctors did all they could but one therapist began planting ideas into her head. I never could get them entirely out, believe it or not she used to be a lot worse.”
This gave Marcus a new insight. “What happened to her husband?” Charlie replied “He ran off with some floozie. That’s why Kelly is so obsessed with her appearance. She thought she was not pretty enough to hold his attention.” Charlie could almost see the gears turning inside his friend’s head. “Thanks Charlie, I think I Can help her with your permission. Are you willing to let me try?” Charlie told him “I’d be grateful for any help you can give her.”
George was outside of the motorhome working on the property to improve its appearance. He grumbled “it’s the end of civilization and the lot looks like a herd of goats are living here.” George grew up poor but his parents had taught him to take care of his stuff. His last step was to place the family sign at the driveway entrance. “Now it’s a proper camp.” George grumbled a little less. Until he turned on the news.
“This is the Government Broadcasting Service that brings you the truth of America. We have word that due to the amount of subversive propaganda internet service will be monitored and anyone who is caught spreading anti government propaganda will be arrested. The penalties have not yet been released but they will be severe. In other news the government office on youth affairs has taken control of the scouting programs in an attempt to equalize opportunities. Participation is not mandatory but participation will be considered if social credit scores are imposed. Yesterday in a secret tribunal several traitors were executed. Their names are being withheld pending investigations on their family members. Stay tuned for local news and weather.”
George said the thing out loud no was supposed to even think. “Well we now have the Hitler Youth in America.” Ruth and Linda came out and asked him “What was that you said?” George told them the government just took over the scouting programs. Not to mention we now have secret tribunals all in direct violation of constitutional law.” Linda said “We need to get a meeting together and discuss this” George pulled out his “special phone” Saying “It’s time to dial 9.”
Jack answered the phone. “I guess you heard the news?” “Yeah, is the Agency doing anything about this mess?” asked George. “We are getting things in place but it will take time. We are using this event to weed out the traitors and their cronies. I may drop some stuff in your secure box so be sure to check it. Use the wi-fi on the phone and not the regular internet.” George told Linda “Talk to Charlie and get that meeting set up.
Story Three part Five. the Hot Tent Camp. JD’s Lodge brothers showed up with the promised fuel and tanks. The lead man told JD if there is anything else you need let us know. We will try to get it for you.” One of the other men asked “Do you think that young man would be a good candidate for membership?” “I am not sure, let’s see how things go. If we like him we can approach him about joining.”
After the lodge members departed, Art asked JD “Do you think it would do us good to rest a couple of days?” JD said “That sounds like a good idea. We could all use a break.” Art asked JD "Will things go back to normal?” JD said “Things will never be what we considered normal a few weeks ago but things will get better. There are people working to set things right even as we speak. They are working silently in the background. Our job is to support them in their work. That is how we will win this.”
They spent the day playing by and fishing the Muskegon River. The girls were tired and needed to be carried back to camp. Art sat down with his notepad and turned on the radio. “This is The Government Broadcasting Service. Tonight we bring you an exciting new program. It is called The Speaker of the Goddess.”
A voice came on saying “hello to all feminists female, male and those not born with female bodies. I bring you great news, the patriarchy has been struck a major blow tonight. Working with the government all the oppressive churches are being closed and their leaders brought to justice. As of now all churches must be approved by the Temple of the Goddess. Also the wage gap is being addressed by none other than president Burden himself. We are entering an age of enlightenment. Death will soon come to the patriarchy and we will be free from its obsolete moral code.” Art made notes about all the mindless blithering that followed.
Art shared his notes with JD and he asked “Can I share these with the Lodge?” Art said “Sure, I hope they can use it.” JD put the notes into a zippered bag and left to take it to a drop point. On arrival he checked for messages and saw a packet. He saw the mark of the Lodge and took the package with him. He was somewhat suspicious and stopped a ways from the property. He opened the package, it contained new information on local government collaborators. He made notes of names and places. The Lodge messaged told him “In an extreme case we may need to eliminate some of these people can you assist?”
He readied a reply in the affirmative and left it with the other notes. When he returned he said nothing about the message. His motto is "what you don’t know you can’t tell. He went on about the evening as if nothing had happened. He was looking forward to a second day off.
